Prince Goes In All Directions On New Album... and DVD!!!

This just in from Yahoo Entertainment... thought y'all would feel this... mr.green Or, I could be wrong... anyway... enjoy.

Prince Goes in All Directions on New Album
1 hour, 38 minutes ago

NASHVILLE (Billboard) - Prince will unveil a new studio album, "N.E.W.S.," on Thursday to members of his NPG Music Club Web site. It is not known if the set will be made available to traditional retail outlets.

The disc features four songs -- "North," "East" "West" and "South" -- each of which is 14 minutes long. NPG members can also preview three songs from the DVD "Prince Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas," due later this year.

"N.E.W.S." is Prince's first studio release since "The Rainbow Children," which in December 2001 hit No. 4 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and No. 109 on The Billboard 200. The album was made available in stores via a distribution deal with Best Buy's now-defunct Redline label.

Prince is the subject of a recent biography, "Possessed: The Rise and Fall of Prince," by Alex Hahn.

The three songs you get to view are "Push & Pull", "The Work", "Money Don't Matter 2nite".

This is to attract people on June 19th, not people who are already members.

Actually, it is 'Pop life', 'Push and pull' and 'The work pt. 1'.
'Money don't matter 2nite is a little teaser, featured as intro for 'The work pt. 1'.

Actually, virtually the same article is on billboard.com & rollingstone.com, so I wouldn't blame Yahoo.

Other Top Independent Albums released around the time of TRC include such memorable titles as "Songs of Klingon Mating." I would not exactly call that stiff competition for Prince...or consider beating that release with TRC much to brag about.

I don't consider not even cracking the top 100 on billboard's album chart "reaching people's ears". It doesn't take a lot of sales to crack the top 100. This from a guy who's albums used to sell a minimum of 3 million copies.

You can't really compare his sales to the days of the promotional blitz. I think that pop acts today and (american idol winners) have proven that with enough promotional muscele ($) anybody can produce. However, in princes case were talking very minamal promotion (almost word of mouth) for a jazz tinged concept album. Not bad! (didn't blow the public away but the tour was a success) If he wanted a bigger impact he would have spent the promotional dollars and made himself more visable during the time of its billboard climb. I can't remember seeing a prince video or cameo in a long long time.

get over yourself and all your useless Prince knowledge. I think it is quite reasonable that Yahoo did not know about two albums that were never released to the general public. finger3

Rainbow children is the last studio ablum commerically released. Xpectation was a member only MP3 download so you cant count it as a studio album release and as for ONe Night Alone it was sent to club members only the stores were never given the opportunity to sell it until it came packaged with one night alone live.

Just thinking...

Do you think that maybe this new album will somehow.. have a vibe of

North: (northern america vibe like Prince style)

East: (nyc maybe hip hop or something with east coast vibe)

West: (garge band/skateboader cali vibe)

South: (country style)

Ok maybe not the descriptions I gave, but maybe different sounds from the USA or even the World???

or am I just over thinking smile

Yahoo! does not employ reporters to write articles.

What Yahoo! does is publish articles written by journalists working for The Associated Press, Reuters, and in this case...Billboard.

Here's the original link to the story:

http://story.news.yahoo.c...rince_dc_1

And, in Billboard's defense, Rainbow Children was the last album released in record stores. You can't fault Billboard for not being members of every artist's site.

I don't want to be picky, I have purchased the album anyway but, why so much for the postage?
$10 for the album and $8.99 for postage to UK?
Now, if they had sold the album at $15.99 and postage $3, then fine BUT...

Wow, for Holland it's $ 10,99 for postage! But then again: I ordered 2 cd's: total costs per cd: $ 15,50. That's Euro 13,36, so it's still a bargain. When I joined the club I payes $25 for the internet-experience : the news, the graphic environment, the chat-sessions. With a half year 2 go, I can say it's worth te money.
I don't know if the cd will be exclusive 2 club-members, but when I go 2 a wreckastow and I have to pay 20 - 25 Euros for a new cd, I have to say it again: it's a bargain!

Peace Dennis

yeah, but then you get an entire album and not just 4 instrumental tracks. Plus you have to pay 25$ first before you can order the cd ... and... if you buy a cd in stores the retailer wants a piece, the record company wants a piece, the distributor too and the government wants taxes.

Put it all together and $18.99, or more, for people outside the US is not a bargain.

btw. how long do you peeeps think it will take this year for your cd to arrive? Like last year two, three months AFTER release to stores?
