prince 2003 calendar has 19th June circled

Maybe someone else has mentioned this already as the calendar has been available a long time, but I just noticed this morning that on Prince's 2003 calendar the dates june 19th through 22nd are circled. Can anyone comment on the significance of this? I didn't notice any other dates circled but I didn't look through in too much detail.

[I don't know which calendar you're referring to here, on NPGMC? Well, anyhow, interesting. Maybe someone can comment and shed some light on it. -Ben]

This was the source of the suspected dates for a 2003 Celebration.

hehe...kind of funny...cause I thought this was old news.
the dates are circled on the Prince and the NPG all access calender 2003, I think most of us assumed that these would be the dates of the celebration this year but...appartenly not. What it appears to be now is the release of the new N.E.W.S album. which happens to be only 4 songs and I THINK one song a day will be available for listening starting on the 19th.
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

I had noticed this also, the 19th through the 22nd are circled on the Prince 2003 all access calendar that I got from the NPG site. I just kinda figured that would have been the days for the cele that seems to not be happening this year! Bummer!!!

Well... for anyone even vaguely interested in American history, June 19th is a major date.

"Juneteenth" celebrates the official freeing of the last black slaves (in Texas...which held out until Union troops went in to enforce Lincoln's proclamation).

just a thought, since most folks don't know about this black american holiday. He might be linking that celebration with his own. he uhh... has use the word Slave once or twice hasn't he? LOL

Well, I don't think he's a very big fan of Lincoln anyways, so I doubt that is why he circled it.

But even if he did want to recognize this day, that still wouldn't explain the 20-22 days.

uhh...its really not meant to honor Lincoln my friends smile

There's no obvious reason to choose the 19th of June, and given the date's importance... like i said, he may have chose to open his celebration with it. I wasn't trying to imply there'd be a 4 day black power revival or anything LOL.

or maybe because it's a Catholic (Christian) holiday - Corpus Christi I believe is the English name for it...

but naturally I'm talking nonsense - unless JW's celebrate this day somehow... hmmm

btw, I am overjoyed by the fact that it is a Catholic holiday - for me it means a day off by law!!! smile

Ok,
let's assume he'd anticipated those dates for a CD release more than six months ago (... I sincerely doubt about it, but why not...).

When are the other circled dates on the calendar ?

Yes, as another mentioned. Is is, in fact Juneteenth. A major marking in African-American History. And, with Prince being so into studying and teaching this history, I think he would make a notation. Especially within his studies on Lincoln. Remember the script that was scrolling on stage during One Night Alone Live. I was fortunate enought to enjoy it in NYC last April. I was a little discouraged though, when he went on about history and all. I LOVE PRINCE and his musical talents and have since at least the 1999 albumn. I just hope he keeps tha funk alive and kickin'. I've never been a fan of history. Especially since we aren't tought the whole truth.

At first it looked as if Prince was going to have anctual music celebration like he has done since 2000.I kind of doubt Prince knew he would be at this point with this N-E-W-S download of music way back before December when he printed the calendars that stated proposed dates for "a celebration" I think he just got too busy with recording this new music and putting together a DVD of his December show in Las Vegas that he decided not to have another celebration. At least this year.Last year is a tough one to top anyways.I mean come on,7 solid nights of performing? It was awesome.Another slant on this topic might be that he was tired of the work the went into putting on such an event. The air conditioning problem and the attempted theft of memorabilia is enough to give him a bad vibe I am sure...Just my thoughts,MinnneapolisFunk
