Weird Al makes fun of Prince

This is a good excuse for many of you to mock the Weird Al, however you may already be doing so. Please read and enjoy the following excerpt. Or not, that is also your right and choice. Thank you for reading my news submission. http://www.mtv.com/news/a...lines=true

The law doesn't require him to respect the original artist's feelings, but Al said he always seeks permission and that he won't pursue a parody without the original artist's blessing (see "Weird Al Parodies 'Lose Yourself' But Won't Spoof Em's Video"). The only person to consistently deny him permission over the years has been Prince, when Weird Al sought to parody the Purple One's "When Doves Cry," "Kiss" and "1999."

"It seems strange to me because he seems like a wacky, funny guy, you know? Kooky," Al said. "I call him up every couple of years and say, 'Hey, Prince, it's Al. Just checking to see if you have a sense of humor yet. No? OK. Well, take care.' I would love to do one of hits from the past 10 years, but oh, he doesn't have any. Oops!"

"Weird Al" is funny, i think it would b cool to c a take off of Prince, he does them so well. 1999 would b a hoot 2 c, but he got to do his thing and ask 4 permission, which is good, atleast he askes, instead of outright taking and making a fool of ppl. well that is just my twocents anyhoo.

I've always thought that P takes himself too seriously. And this is the proof.

There's no doubt about that!

evillol That's hysterical!

Lighten up Prince! I can just see Al in some purple ruffled outfit with a hairy chest crawling across a bathroom floor!

cool Prince is a stuck up sour puss. When he actually tries to be or sound funny is all an act. Do ya think he wants to be made fun of? NAH! I THINK NOT! He does not have a sense of humor when it comes down to anyone mocking his music.

In the video "UHF" Al does dress up as Prince. The first time you see him he's doing a concert set with the shinny purple coat and white cloud guitar, second time he's doing the I Would Die 4 U dance, ya you know what part, and third he's in the bathtub and gets up and reaches for the camera. The song Traffic Jam is based off of Let's Go Crazy, it's what Al calls a style parady.
Shut up already...Damn

This song has nothing to do with Prince's. It is really hilarious and funky though. I would strongly urge everyone to listen to it. It's 6 minutes of horrible one-liners to pick up women, and I think it could be a huge hit for him! And while you're at it, listen to "Genius in France" off of his latest- in this one he does Frank Zappa almost as good as Frank Zappa does Frank Zappa.

His originals are better than his parodies, imo.

Actually Weird Al is wrong... Prince has had a hit within the past ten years - 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World'. Still, Prince wouldn't let him touch it.

Al can be funny sometimes, but he's a leach. He's only popular because he sucks the blood of talented people. He could never pull a hit out of his ass. It has to be connected to a sure bet.

Now, I did laugh when he did Eat IT and the I'm Bad parody (M.J). In fact I think those videos might be on some old VHS tapes in my basement.

But the reality is I can't watch the originals without snickering a little because my subconcious recalls the parodies.

I would never want that to happen with Prince. I don't want Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, or anything else to be belittled. I don't want the effect of my favorite Prince songs marred in the back of my mind forever.

Come on, you know you could never look at Prince videos the same after seeing a Weird Al parody.

I heard something about Weird Al wanting to do a parody of Prince's song, "When Doves Cry". I think he wanted to retitle it "When Eggs Fry". lol

I remember back in the mid-80's when I saw Weird Al in concert. He mentioned something then about wanting to do parodies of Prince's songs, but Prince wouldn't let him. I remember the crowd booing when Al said that, and feeling rather pissed off. They're Prince's songs, he has the right to say no if he wants to.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

When my sister saw the movie like some ten years ago she saw that and said it reminded her of when Bill Cosby did Pudding Jello commericals and played "Peek A Boo" at the end, so then she started doing that and would say "Pudding" in a voice kind of like Cosby's. Well, I found it funny.

I've got a video recording somewhere of Weird Al conducting the Prince UTCM MTV interview. It's kind of funny...

"Genius In France" also features Dweezil Zappa on guitar...

I agree... Weird Al's ARE better than his parodies... I love the songs "One More Minute", "Dare To Be Stupid" and "Slime Creatures From Outer Space"... Al rules...!!!

You just described a whole bunch of rap music songs! *gasp!*

As far as Al's parodies, how about Prince's Al-lookalike in the Partyman video? Word was that Prince put that in there as revenge for the UHF video. smile

 What type of person would go to a Weird Al concert?
