OK on the Lenny Kravitz is a musical magpie issue. Yes he's kinda stuck in a rut but he s a fantastic producer (did someone just say Madonnas "Justify my Love"?). Anyway back to Prince, lets look, who think that "Billy Jack Bitch" is a blatant steal from Funkadelics classic "Not Just Knee Deep"?

How's it going?

Putting third grade humor aside for a moment, I've been listening to Lenny from day one and I haven't really heard any hardcore "funk" in his music.

I've heard a nice hybrid of styles from Curtis Mayfield to John Lennon to elements of Prince, Bowie and Classic Rock.

There have been (to me) subtle influences and some really overt influences in his music. I think the first CD and "Mama Said" were "Jamming on the job".

It seems like his music (or maybe peoples interpretations/expectations) took a dip with the Circus CD and "5" was a great return to form.

But the last CD with "Dig In" was kind of a drop.

But then again everyone might have been waiting for "Fly Away II"(Could have been peoples expectations.)

Lenny has the support of Virgin behind him which is better than going the indie route. (You still need the machine behind you folks, sorry.) So we'll have a chance to hear him do all kinds of music and continue to grow as an artist.

IMO, unless something is an out-and-out copy, or even a cover version (don't much like covers), then influence in music is obvious. For me, it is more about feeling/sensing the unique vibe of the musician, hearing something personal about the musician and how I feel during and after listening. For both Prince and Lenny, I have felt and feel inspired, moved, energised, warm and alive when in touch with their music. I love being in touch with these parts of myself and not all music can assist me to that place, this is what alerts me to these musicians being rather special.

Hi there.

I never really post much but felt like I needed to on this one. Lenny does steal a bit but pretty much everyone in rock since the late 60's has ripped the odd thing here and there from other bands. Like someone else said about Billy Jack Bitch sounding like Knee Deep by P-Funk. Prince has done it too. And in turn P-Funk used some definite Hendrix sounding riffs, check out Izabella by Hendrix and then listen to Alice in my Fantasies by Funkadelic and you'll get what I'm sayin'. I'll admit that Lenny does it more than most but there aren't many "POPULAR" artists out there at the moment who are making music as good as his. Basically all of Hip-hop is getting stale at the moment because everyone sounds the same. Even the Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold out and gone bland (since the departure of the great Dave Navarro)in an effort to make more money.

Music as a whole now is derivative, so to pick on Lenny is a bit out of order.

Anyway sorry to go on, just airing my views!

Lenny, well there seems to be all sorts of responses to this one, whether it should be on Prince.org is questionable. I did see Lenny in Barcelona last year, the show was electric. I saw Madonna there also, total snooze. I don't have a problem with Lenny, at this point in time we're lacking talented musicians, see England for instance, Robbie Williams, Gareth Gates and shit like that. We even have an American who wears a freakin Band-aid on his face. Is this a joke??? Makes you sick. Too many Boy and Girl bands, all just shameful and so predictable. Zero talent. Lenny is a breath of fresh air. Let him go. Prince still rules.

I may be crazy, but a couple years ago (maybe more??) does anyone else recall Lenny in some interviews saying that he and Prince had recorded a couple albums worth of material and that if they ever got released one was going to be called "GOD" and would be all hard rock stuff and the other would be called "FUNK" and would be all, well you know, funk. If anyone else knows what interview i'm remembering this from speak up, cuz that might mean the P man would be on this thang!

Lenny did not get off to a great start but, he has improved and face it he does try a play musical instrutments. Instead being another boy singer or a member of a boy band.

Perhaps working with Prince will make him work harder but, I know I will check this cd out and you can just not buy it and leave the funk to the funketeers.
