Maroon 5 cover Prince in concert

Just saw the Maroon 5/Sugar Ray/matchbox 20 show in Columbus, Ohio tonight (May 25th). Up-and-coming band Maroon 5 opened, and finished their set with "Darling Nikki." The lead singer said "Rob Thomas [of matchbox 20] suggested we do a Prince song, and since we're the freshmen on this tour we said 'Yes, Mr. Thomas!'" They really did a great job on the song! Who knew Rob Thomas liked Prince?

Maroon 5 has an interesting sound. When I heard their song "Harder to Breath" I thought it was a nice hybrid of R&B, funk, and rock.

Quite a few people. Especially after how he went on & on about how their last big hit "I Knew I Loved You" was about Prince & Mayte.

I'm a huge fan of this band.. I would recommend them to anyone.

Like someone previously said.. their music is eclectic. Check out the songs 'Secret', 'Sweetest Goodbye' and 'Tangled'

If you do.. let me know what you think! I love these guys!

When the lead singer of Maroon 5 sang "Darling Nikki", did he jump on top of the speakers, lay down, and pump his butt up and down like Prince did when he sang the song in the movie, "Purple Rain"? lol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

MB20 almost always did two Prince covers & talked about Prince on their first tour.

I came across them when I checked out a Scapegoat Wax concert last year, and they definitely slam! "Song's For Jane" is an eclectic mix of rock, pop, soul, and funk, and a very good album from start to finish. The singer gives off a cool Sting vibe on a some of the songs, especially "The Sun". My favorite tune is "She Will Be Loved", kind of a melancholy ballad, but the uptempo stuff is good too. Definitely worth checking out.

BTW, Scapegoat Wax kicks ass too! Also eclectic but leaning more heavily toward hip-hop and soul. Marty James has got the goods, he just needs another record deal!

Maroon 5 is really a great band. At the Indianapolis show they covered NIN's Closer as their last song...also at the suggestion of Mr. Thomas.
Love and lust, they both have 4 letters...
