Didn't P say he was retiring "Little Red Corvette"? This show couldn't have happened!

Well I guess "...un concert très, très privé..." has happened without someone on the org knowing about it. And that´s just fine with me. This ain´t the FBI or the Stasi, is it?
New songs, Atlanta Bliss (!), Eric Leeds, I Wish U Heaven, I Feel For You, Little Red Corvette, Moonbeams Level and Paisley Park performed live is just enough to keep me excited for the weekend. But I have to admit that I´m not too keen on Prince covering other artists on a whole album ("The Purple House") ...wait and see. Maybe as a 2003 NPGMC exclusive release? The contents and opinions expressed by MrHappy have not been approved for publication by Prince or anyone in his employ.

I'm very excited to hear about possible new concerts, a new album and the next year of the NPGMC, but I too am a bit concerned about the legitimacy of the report -- it seems like it was a long time ago given the quick posting most of the org members make about Prince happenings.
Let's hope for the best and see if anyone else can verify or if the NPG will confirm.

Wow! is not a new song...it's an unreleased jam. PAZ! Well, unless you heard it...you don't know that as a fact. He has written different songs with the same title before. I'm not saying that it may not be a possibility that the song isn't the "I'll Do Anything" outtake, but it could be be a new song with the same title. Remember "7" from the album, and 7 from Madhouse 8? Madhouse 24 also has a song called Space and there is Space on the album Come. You never really know with Prince. Rudedog

JoeKelley said: I would be very surprised if this concert actually happened . I have had one of the principle musicians mentioned who played at this concert on my radio show 3.17.03 and not one word said on this show. And we discussed Prince guesting at her recent show in Minneapolis.
so... be very wary of what people say... Yeah, I agree Joe. Especially since you were actually WITH one of the musicians, closer to the action so to speak, you've got some insight. If all of this, or most of it, or just a speck, is true, I'll be really excited as any Prince fan would be. So I hope great things are coming from Paisley Park! It's been really quiet lately! The political thing was something just on my mind recently. When the first Gulf war was on, Prince performed in Brazil for the Rock in Rio concert. He made some political statements for Peace or something. It's on the tape, Nude Tour era. Live 4 Love was a song about anti-war and anti-militarism. And I thought, I wonder why we're not hearing anything from our man. I think when the lion roars it will be a mighty roar. Famous names are like amplifiers, the media reports, more attention is given to the message. Much like music is an amplifier of the soul. So I hope Prince is really planning on speaking his mind since...he is free you know...

I translated the article via BabelFish at Altavista.com from
http://www.jazzmagazine.c...tiel15.htm A little off but you can make out the message and info (French fans/fams please help!): =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= As promised, and of exclusiveness for Tangential Remix, here the exceptional report of our old friend of Saint-Paul, Peter Cato, the lucky devil! Assisted a few days ago with a concert very, very private of Prince and its NPG in his cave of Paisley Park. Frederic Goaty, who invite once more, a year and half after my nostalgic report of the only visit of Davis Miles in Paisley Park, the day of 1988 [ note Jazz Magazine n°519, 2001] October, to express my admiration for Prince. I have had to acknowledge that even if have the chance assister for more than twenty years to many concerts of Prince to the four corners of the United States and in Europe, that to which I have been able to assist saturdays last 8 March thanks to collaborator complicity of the Boss (immense special a thanks to her). If the next concerts of Prince resemble this fantastic performance (repetition for a future round for promotion of the future disc no one does not know it yet. In 2003 will be even more exciting that 2002! Made rather rare: did the concert start to 23 H, which is surprisingly early for a late bedder as Prince. There are hardly 200 people in the large room, that one even where, I was there last, it gave at the time of its third Celebration an unforgettable acoustic concert. I recognize some friends, and in particular Sara Remke, joint owner of the coffee Black Dog, where each one comes to express its dégout vis-a-vis the horrible actions of our president not-elected official. Ricky Peterson (always also sharp!), Scottie Pakulski (which will quickly disappear for to go behind the console and occuper of the sound), the owner of the Bunkers (which I greet but which I do not remember any more the name!), the club of Minneapolis (where Michael Bland and Sonny Thompson occur each Monday) and James Diers (singer of the Coil-Bus group and manager of the formidable trio jazz Happy APPLE, our jazz stars local. During all the concert who resembled a live repetition more admittedly very, very at the point Prince almost not spoken, releasing that and there only some shy persons thank you, like this one had forgotten that song, uh uh, etc. The NPG version 2002. Renato Neto with the keyboards, Ronda Smith with low and John Blackwell with the battery from now on is increased by Hornheads (which joy of finding these virtuosos always also jazzy-funky!), Esther Godinez (percussionnist installed with Minneapolis, friend of Sheila E and ex-member of group George Benson), Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss (welcome back!) and new rhythmic guitarist, Ella King, which one known comes from Los Angeles where it worked several years lasting as a session woman for television and the cinema. With l exception of some extracts of recent the The Rainbow Children (Mellow, Family Name, The Work) and One Nite Alone (Have A Heart, Avalanche Cuts), the show made up that new pieces undoubtedly those of its future album which one it murmurs already does not any more 2000 Free: The Revelation Year Purple House, the new ones recoveries and of old rearranged standards. First report: the sound ensemble is close to that of the One Nite Alone but the funk and the blues are even more present. =-=-=-=-=-=-= Excuse me?!?!... did this guy just mention...Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss!?!?!? Oh boy, oh boy... This is beautiful! I don't think it was the HORNHEADZ, it apparently they're the Madhouse guys! Atlanta's back! Okay, now I'm getting excited!

Click on Entertainers then choose Bands and then click on Afterdark and read. Matt (Atlanta Bliss) Blistan has been working with this band in Pittsburgh as recently as 2002. I can't verify that he is still with them, but it seems an easy enough task to find out if he was at that Paisley Park gig or had a gig with Afterdark that night...

what would be the point of making something like this up? I mean... if you want to write a fake article for a jazz magazine in France, why write a review of an imaginary Prince show? just seems weird.
not that i believe it without more verification, but still... seems strange that it would be made up. but if its true, sounds exciting
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It really seems difficult to believe that this is true. It's already March 28th; twenty days since this performance has supposedly taken place and NO ONE in the USA, Minneapolis for that matter has written any information about it. Hmmm!
Even when Prince has had special performances at Paisley Park in the past that may not have been open to the public; the press (American press) have known about it. How the funk do 200 people keep this news quiet for at least 2 weeks? It smells a little funny to me. But then again Prince has been awfully quiet. Hmmm! Time will tell. Tic Toc,Tic Toc, is this a crock?

- two comments: 1) Great to see the Hornheadz back...they added a lot to P´s music, and I missed them. With all respect for the great Maceo, Candy and Greg, I missed them on this tour. 2) I hope this ´second guitar player´ isn´t definitive. Princey definitely doesnt need a second guitar player. Some of his best concerts were done with only him on guitar (Miami B day 95, ONA disc 3 aftershow) and it makes him concentrate more on music and less on choreographies...

People, I don't think it's the Hornheadz of the 90's. Read the actual French article and you'll see that the horn section is ERIC LEEDS and ATLANTA BLISS!
Can't believe you guys are overlooking this! Some are confusing the Hornheadz with them. Although the Hornheadz were great and talented, I still love the sound Eric Leeds and Matt Blistan made with Prince! Oh and let's not forget Eddie M.!

I confirm...Here the answer to the email I sent to F. Goaty...Fermez le ban...

Frederic Goaty forwarded to Jazz Magazine this short official statement:
" the most attentive readers of Remix Tangentiel of course has guess: the report of Prince concert was our 2003 April Fool, entirely due to the very (too much?) fertile imagination of our old friend Peter Cato – quite real! If Peter made a point so much of forwarding to us this text, it was his facetious tribute to the musician that he " follows " for years... After many and very serious /various reports about concerts and other Cd of Prince published in 2002 on the Jazz Magazine web site, time was come to us to have a break and just dreamed a little bit with Peter... Let us wish that some of his dreams are carried out really – new disc, new group, club finally reactivated... While waiting, he promised to us that his next princely report will be 100 % authentic and excuses himself right now to have given vain joys to the sympathetic nerve cyberfans of Mister P.! But the traditions should well be respected, and that of April 1st is not the least amusing, isn't it? "

I knew it was a crock! 4 U Peter Cato
I didn't find it amusing, nor very believable! Try again next April Fools 2004.

I have a news that shows this news is a joke. For those who anted to dream .. great ! that is a success ! But you have to know this article was written for April Fool's day.
A French fan wrote to the magazine about this article (which was obviously a fake article) and here is the reply from the magazine (my translation) : Hi, Of course, it was a joke for April Fool's day... A kind of tribute ... Jazz magazine is a serious magazine (for over 50 years) but, sometimes, you shouldn't take it seriously ! (Jokes for April Fool's day are very popular in the tabloids..) Of course the text has been published in Jazz Magazine but only on the website "JazzMag", which is not the same thing... There is enough space for it on the website and I thought that, after having written several serious articles, it would be a good idea to send a little joke to entertain people. But, apparently, some fans seem to be too fan... according to me. Fred Goaty

In other news, Prince announced that he will be doing an album of Motley Crue covers as a wedding present for his ex-wife, Mayte and her new husband, Tommy Lee. Prince is said to have changed the lyrics to suit his new Jehovah Witness beliefs. Look for Shout At Jehovah to hit music stores before the end of the year.
Track list: 1. Shout At Jehovah 2. 2 Young 2 Fall In Love 3. Home Sweet Home (Chanhassen Mix) 4. Without U 5. God Bless The children Of The Rainbow 6. (God Is A) Live Wire 7. 2 Fast 4 love 8. Danger (The Record Company's Out 2 Get U) 9. Louder Than Heck 10.
