Muzik Magazine Check out this month's Feb 2003 issue of Muzik Magazine with old Picture of Madonna on the cover like the 80's Keith Elliot Greenburg book photo shoot on her. This issue is a tribute to Dance Icons Prince and Madonna with a free cd with a cover of DIRTY MIND by Bent
It's a Gem for PRINCE AND MADONNA FAN COLLECTORS LIKE ME!!! HEROES! Great article and tribute on Prince. I like the last Quote; If you really want to put things in perspective, Consider that jacko comparison again, and tell us today who the real king of pop is. I also like; To find Prince's true musical peers, you really have to look up to the clouds. Never mind that he ripped them all off Wholesale. Talent borrows, Genius steals. It's no coincidence that Prince gave hip hop a wide berth; it was as if the idea of sampling his heroes' riffs was an insult to someone who'd dedicated their life to perfecting them. DITO!!! DIG IT! RESPECT And true; Why does he need to better himself when no-one else ever has? except Madonna of course... The both of them anyway... MJ, Madonna, & Prince Fan

You are aware that the majority of the Hip Hop audience did and still does consider Prince to be "some weird queer"? When I was knee deep in the rap scene back in the mid 80s-90s, I got so much shit for "liking that little faggot."
The fact that Prince still cannot sell to the general audience underlines that point. Those who have grown up still have a bad attitude towards him. If it isn't still the homophobia, it's the fact that he "dared call himself a slave." Prince did little for the growth of Hip Hop. White kids in the suburbs throwing thier disposable income towards rap did most of the work. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

White kids in the suburbs throwing thier disposable income towards rap did most of the work. This guy doesnt know what trhe hell he is talking about. Prince's contribution to the plague of hip hop is as obvious as every legendary funk master including George Clinton and James Brown. Without these guys, there is no hip hop. Where do you think it came from? It did not just pop out of the ground. Hip hop is a bastardization of old school R&B. There is little musical orginiality in it and this has beent he knock on it from day one. Ask hip hop artists who they listen to and Prince will come up. I was watching Cribs te other days adnthe bald guy from Goodie Mob had the Prince Hits CD in his collection. Old school rapper like Ice T have covered Prince songs. Chuck D and Eve have worked with Prince. Wow, you really sounding dumb on this one.

There's also a large portion of hip hop that has sampled the guy. Go figure. The fact that Prince still cannot sell to the general audience underlines that point. Really? I don't find that to be the case at all, but if I did, the rappers who call themselves "niggers" have no room to talk. Overall their interest in Prince mirrors many of those on this site who knows he has had peaks and valleys. Prince did little for the growth of Hip Hop. White kids in the suburbs throwing thier disposable income towards rap did most of the work.
The only growth hip hop has had, unfortunately, is a commercial growth. Since the late 80s it hasn't transcended its adolescent mindset. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

How the hell is prince a dance icon, in that field michael jackson truely kicked his ass.
Who gives a damn about hip hop and rap, i used to like it then got pissed of with the fact that all these idiots do is talk fast (not sing) and always have the same subject material. Plus the only way rap sells is if some rnb singer does the chorus, people don't buy cos of the actual rapping.

ps madonna was by far the least talented of the three 80's giants - worst voice, dancing, songs, did the bitch even write her own songs or produce them?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes, she did and still writes her own music and songs! And she is more talented than Michael and on the same talented wavelength with Prince. She is a Musician by the way, playing keyboards, Drums, and Guitar. Her next album due out soon has her playing and focusing on her Guitar work. Don't talk shit about someone you obviously know nothing about! MJ, Madonna, & Prince Fan

By the way, This BITCH may not be able to sing Like Patti Labelle, but she can Dance the asses off Michael and Prince together. Your taste in dancing must be pretty limited artistically! I used to think Michael was the best dancer alive, but his laziness ongoing through the years in his creativity has not inspired me in quite awhile. But of course no one can continually perform and amaze an audience on stage like Madonna and Prince. MJ, Madonna, & Prince Fan

I own 5 Madonna albums and they are fine in there own right, but she isn't anywhere near as talented as Prince.I get sick of people praising her.She doesn't write all her songs at all. It's rubbish.I have counted-using the in-lays,all the songs from True Blue,Like a Prayer,Something to remember,Ray of light and The Immaculate Collection. There are 60.How many did she wright?Well,11 were written by other people,48 were CO-written(which means a small input counts) and 1 song is credited to her-
Lucky Star.Prince is far more gifted as a songwriter, producer and obviously as a musician.

I think that is taking it a bit far with the dancing skills of Madonna. NO way she is better than MJ and Prince - dancing or singing

Hardly anyone these days is influenced by madonna apart from crap like britney, christina etc. madonna made bubblegum pop, face it. whereas mj and prince influence more credible and gifted artists. the only thing talented about madonna is the fact that she can shove a whole bottle down her throat, there's no way she can do the splits like prince or moonwalk and do the robot like mj, so don't go on about her dancing, ok. also don't u think prince could've been better if he spent more time making his albums instead of releasing 2 albums a year. It worked for purple rain.

I believe Madonna Realizes the so call Bubble Gum PoP that has come out in recent years and is discouraged by the way that everyone seems to blame this on her. It is the Music Industry doing this not her. She has constantly written and created her own sound of music different on each venture she takes. I don't believe these bubble gum artists are doing the same thing as her or ever will.
She has now become more aware of the importance or technical and muscial skills and is now traveling on that path. Hopefulle the music industry will someday do the same. MJ, Madonna, & Prince Fan

Prince&Hip-hop/Rap Mainly His Lyrical Content is the real link.the stickering&Creative Freedom of Expression.but I wouldn't put His Work as a Influence on Rap with the Likes of James Brown&George Clinton.I think Michael Jackson's work as a Member of the Jackson 5&quite a bit of His Adult Solo Career has been about the same as Prince within the Culture.Madonna is a Creative Person.of the 3 I think MJ overall has had more of a Impact.Prince has the Lyrical COntent&freedom Aspect&Madonna a little bit there.but overall these 3 Acts aren't gonna be viewed as that Important overall to the Genre IMHO.there is Respect from there them to Rap&Vice Versa but it's not something that I think anyone wants to hear beyond a song here&there. mistermaxxx

This a great article - in addition their are two prince covers on the free CD that comes with the magazine - Dirty Mind and I would die 4 U.
As much as the magazines readers might not appreciate Prince at least the editors do and have gone out of their way to say Prince's influence on dance music can not be over estimated - to quote 'he was that good'.
