That's cool, the general public should have the chance to listen to live Prince. I have no problem being a member and this being on sale to the public, I would have brought it anyway. I will only be upset if we get nothing else with this years membership.
RIP sad

This just looks like a flyer / poster for the set.

It doesn't really say that it's going into stores anywhere does it?

Great! $50.00, right? plus tax?
8% where I live equals $54.00...
Let's see...$100-$54= $46

One Nite Alone (piano CD)...$12.99 plus tax =$14.03
(in reality, worth much more since it has not gone retail...yet)

$46.00-$14.03= $31.97

Days O' Wild $5.00 plus tax $5.40 (free at celly)

$31.97-$5.40= $26.57

I won't count the $7.00 for the movie
I also will not figure in shipping and handling (although I probably should)

Sooo, right now as it stands,
My membership costs $26.57 for the year.

Now I will wait for further loot.
If there is a DVD...whoa!

What I have posted here has nothing to do with my real feelings
about club membership...just tallying...for the sake of tallying.
(running and hiding from other clubmembers)boxed
So...how's everybody doing? smile

I am a 2 year club member with nothing to complain about. This years membership was worth more than $100 if you attended the concerts.

You're missing the point as most simpletons seem to do here. Not everyone did, wanted to, or even could, attend the concerts. We paid $100 for 4 CDs of exclusive, new Prince music, which we have not received. Anything else was incidental & almost always cost much more.

No, I think you're missing the point! The Club clearly promised the prospect of preferential seating. It was a central part of the membership promises and it was for you to determine if you wanted/would be able to take advantage of it. Whether you decided to join or not, the offer was still there.

I'm glad I didn't join the NPGMC, because I would be so mad right now, I would throw my computer out the window. If it's coming out in stores, what was the point of getting people to give up a $100.00 to join the club?

The question is, what would make it worth? I don't know the answer, so I never joined.

2 all the club members...
Prince is gonna due u like u wanna b done.

anybody with a thimble of sense no's Prince has renigged all year on his promise of xclusive music 2 club members.

sure every concert is worth attending, but that had it's drawbacks 2.
standing n line 8 hours just 2 get a DECENT seat is NOT a perk n my book.
members should have had options 4 numbered seats.

This one is even funnier :
"Direct to DAT with minimal overdubs"

I don't know what "Minimal overdubs" exactly means with Prince

Could not agree more with you, "mediadarling". You hit the nail on the head. The implication that members would receive 4 cd's of exclusive new Prince music was the biggest selling point of the year two NPGMC membership. If a fan bought a year 2 membership right from the beggining when the membership was first made available in Feb 2002(?) there was absolutely no way of knowing for sure if Prince was going to tour and there was certainly know way of knowing if the soundcheck was going to be opened up to club members. We also had no way of knowing if there was even going to be a "celebration" in 2002 nor did we have any way of knowing that the tickets to the celebration would be nearly exclusive to club members. Furthermore, as you pointed out, not everyone did, wanted to, or even could attend the concerts. So that being said, the people that purchased a year two membership from the beginning of the year did so with the full expectation that they would receive 4 new music discs.

One night alone (piano cd) counts as one of the four discs. But as far as I'm concerned, One Night Alone Live counts as ONE music compilation, so it doesn't matter how many discs you spread that compilation out across, it's still ONE music compilation. For those of you who will say that I'm being too picky, then I ask you to look at it this way...what if Prince put one song on each of the three remaining music discs? Technically, by putting one song on each of the remaining three cd's, Prince would have fulfilled his obligation, but he would not have fulfilled the "spirit" of the obligation, and that's how I feel about the One Night Alone Live cd. Now that the box set is apparently going to retail, wherefore is the benefit to being a member of the club?... the One Night Alone (piano cd)??? And to receive the live box set a week early??? WHOOPI!

According to Prince's own One Night Alone tourbook, the adverstisment for the club says: "Join The NPG Music Club 2002! access these New cds... Last December, One Night Alone, The Best of prince, Xenophobia and other magnificent stuff!:

I know that plans change all the time, but for me personally, as much as I look forward to receiving the box set, I have to say that if One Night Alone Live is the final set of music that we receive for our 2002 membership, I will be disappointed - especially when I know I can simply go buy this same box set in the store. If that makes me overly critical and a naysayer, so be it, but that's how I feel.

oh please. if you want to join fine then join, but if you don't then don't, but don't seat around and tell members that they should be mad because it is going to retail. I am a member and I am no mad at all, and it not princes fault that you didn't go to the concert. when you join the club you have to make sure, that you have the money to take advantage of all the perks. if you live in a town were he doesn't really come to then do join what is the big deal. I guess it like the saying goes you can please some of the people.

If you wanted to join the club SOLELY for the 4 CDs, then why not wait until you knew what they were??? It's no good joining, then bitching the CDs weren't worth $100, is it?

Quit yer bitchin'!

Cain't nobody do nuthin' to you that you don't LET them do.

YOU made a choice to join the club. Nobody held a gun to your head. YOU knew the risks in agreeing to a contract without guarantees or specifics. If YOU read in more than was stated, if YOU didn't like the specifics that were stated, or if YOU couldn't really afford to take $100 and gamble it toward the opportunity to take advantage of what features were promised, than YOU make a bad decision in managing your finances.
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

I can't speak for everyone. But I would assume that most people joined early because they wanted access to the new cds as soon as possible. For instance, if you still have not joined, then that would mean you still would not have the One Night Alone piano cd. For me personally, it's not so much a matter of assigning a dollar value to each of the cd's but rather assigning value to whether or not Prince fulfilled the "spirit" of the obligation to the club members. As in all things, some people will be satisfied and some people will not. If you're one of the ones thats satisfied, then good for you.

Did your friend actually confirm an in-store date? And if so, could you please share it with us?

Nobody's said this is the end of the club - once P gets back from Japan, maybe he'll sort us another CD?

(Someone mentioned 8 remixes of Silicon... lets hope for something a little better, I can't imagine it's worth the cost of postage for the club just mailing us a CD of Silicon x 8??)

I hope it goes to retail, and sells well, and people like it. If P can whip up some publicity - who knows, maybe even a "proper" single or something??? - then the album deserves to do OK.

I can't wait!!! Anyone know how long before Europe gets stuff mailed from the NPGMC (eg ONA)??

I have to say I definately see both sides to this... or more.

I too spent my hard-earned $100 this year as I did in year 1. The promise of 4 "exclusive" discs of NEW Prince material was the draw for me personally. Preferential seating was a nice perk to get you in the door, but clearly there was no "promise" of a tour this year. He went out and toured... cool... I had tickets to the Cleveland show... but the new CD's and new music is what I come for... not the rest. The downloads of last year were a pain at times, but nothin' was better than having that little surprise and anticipation of the the new files for the month... including videos. I have been enjoying those for the last year and a half. I miss that, although there is definately a better way to get folks their monthly haul.

Now, the word exclusive to me means that they will not be made available to the general non-member public. That being said... I believe we will see One Nite Alone live...free... but this WILL NOT be included as one of our 4 promised CD's... it's a bonus.

My belief is that we will see the remaining 3 discs packaged as a New Power Pack type compilation. Meaning 3 seperate discs packaged individually in a container of some type. Anybody here get the new power pack besides for me?

I truely believe that we will see 3 additional discs before Feb 14, 2003... the last official day of year 2. We'll just 1/2 2 W8 N C!

Prince would be insane to *not* release this disc set in stores ... releasing what is bound to be one of his greatest classics only to the relativly obscure group of clubmembers would be plain daft en dumb.
I'm one clubmember who's very happy that this great new release will get the exposure it deserves.
