Major R&B Station finally coming to Minneapolis



R-and-B Station Coming to Twin Cities. Could be Up and Running by March.



A major commercial R-and-B station is finally coming to Prince's hometown of Minneapolis.



Minneapolis entrepreneur Thomas Ross says he is teaming with a Cincinnati broadcasting chain to buy K-A-R-P, a country-oriented station based in Glencoe west of Minneapolis.



Ross hopes to get permission from the Federal Communications Commission to move the station to Minneapolis or its western suburbs and rename it.



Ross' Kandu Communications of Minneapolis will join Blue Chip Broadcasting, a black-owned broadcasting chain, in the 20 million dollar deal.



They are buying K-A-R-P from Linder Broadcasting, which owns 13 stations in Minnesota and Iowa.



Ross hopes to take over the station in March.



The station, at 96-point-three F-M, recently upgraded the strength of its signal to 100-thousand watts to extend its reach metrowide.
