Prince mentioned in liner notes of Warner Bros. film music compilation

Prince is mentioned in the liner notes of "Warner Bros. 75 Years Of Entertaining The World: Film Music" compilation. Below are the segments of the liner notes that refer to Prince.

"Reflecting the increasingly diverse range of musical voices available to moviegoers, Warners released the startlingly fresh Purple Rain (1984), which turned rock star Prince into movie star Prince. "An emotional autobiography" was how the bad boy of rock described his movie to People magazine. He played a rising Minneapolis rocker, a selfish and tormented soul whose family history of domestic violence takes a toll on his artistic and personal life. Newsweek said of the score: "These hothouse deliriums of lust and transcendence speak to anyone who converses in the primal parlance of rock and roll." The haunting "When Doves Cry" was the #1 song for five weeks during the summer of 1984, going on to become the top single of the year. Prince went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. He later made Under The Cherry Moon (1986) and Graffiti Bridge (1990) for the studio, both in the triple role of songwriter, star, and director".

"One of the first such instances of advance marketing using music was Batman. Although Elfman had been commissioned to write the orchestral score, director Burton was a fan of the artist then known as Prince (who happened to record for Warner Bros. Records). After months of negotiations with Prince's management, the studio flew him to London, where the movie was being shot. He screened rough footage, visited the set and went home to write nine songs, most of which never wound up in the film. In the case of "Batdance," for example, LeMel recalled, "[Prince] wrote the song and used a lot of dialogue. It was an incredible piece of work. It was like an aural trailer. It became a smash record and a huge video without ever playing in the movie." Ultimately, two albums were released, one containing the Prince tunes and one containing Elfman's dramatic score. Both were successful."
