I do and did. I will also join Year 3 without hesitation. This is not because I am completely satisfied with the club. I, like many others, have a Prince addiction for which there is no cure.

Call me stupid. Call me a typical Prince fan.

It is unavoidable.

my god,why do people bitch about "he better gives us another cd by the end of the year" ???!!!

u were promised 4 cd's...u got 4 CD'S! ONA plus 3 discs of ONA Live,i believe thats 4 CD'S ISNT IT!??
GET OVER IT!
also,if u could have attended a concert & been at the sndcheck, but didnt, dont whinge that u didnt get 2 use ur privalliges.
I am not a member, but if i was,i wouldnt give a damn that ONA Live will be out in retail.People will get 2 hear this new side of Prince, with a live set thrown in their faces hopefully, maybe Prince will get some f%$#in' respect down here in OZ,cos he deserves it.
If i had joined, the money spent on membership would have paid 4 the cd's...plus lef over about $50au...which would have gone 2 sndchecks,aftershow/party (if there was one either in OZ or at all) & preferred tickets, damn that is good value if u ask me! especially here in Australia, where with ONA & ONA Live being imports maybe (if Shock dont put it out like they did with TRC) it works out about right.

brings back my point again...Prince fans need something 2 whinge about all the time disbelief

People are complaining because when someone says they went to the store and bought 3 CDs, the next question from their friend is, "Which ones did you buy?" They are going to list 3 titles, not say Emancipation (for the idiots out there, that's a 3 disc set)!! When I say I bought SOTT, I don't say I bought 2 CDs!! No one does, and they're trying to be tricky with the language they used in their advertisement for the club! EVERYONE who joined the club (which is supposed to be a legitimate business) expected 4 separate projects!! Why is something that's going to be sold in regular stores being given out as contract fulfilling member only stuff?? It doesn't make sense, and you can call some people whiners if you want, but they have very legitimate concerns over how this is playing out!!! I'm not too thrilled over this "bait and switch" tactic either!!

You're missing the point as most simpletons seem to do here. Not everyone did, wanted to, or even could, attend the concerts. We paid $100 for 4 CDs of exclusive, new Prince music, which we have not received. Anything else was incidental & almost always cost much more.

No, I think you're missing the point! The Club clearly promised the prospect of preferential seating. It was a central part of the membership promises and it was for you to determine if you wanted/would be able to take advantage of it. Whether you decided to join or not, the offer was still there.

It appears all the simpletons want to check in on this one. For the last time moron, the only thing PROMISED that was guaranteed for all members was 4 exclusive new Prince CDs. Whether or not you wanted to shell out another $150, whether or not you even had the chance to, that was not "central" to anything. Whether or not preferential seating was offered, what good is it if Prince does not tour anywhere near me? Frankly, I couldn't care less at this point, as I will be getting my $100 back from Prince one way or another. If you want to flush more of your own money down the toilet in support of his future "enterprises," by all means, feel free to do so.

Well of course I paid more than $100 to actually attend the Celebration. I'm not such a pig that I'd expect Prince to fly me out to MN, and put me up at a hotel and pay for my food, all for $100. But since the Celebration was only open to NPGMC members, it was $100 well spent, imo.
I'm not a rich woman and don't have vaults of spare money to throw at just anything that catches my fancy. When my friend and I travelled to MN, we were on a very tight budget. It turned out to be a blessing in diguise that we were exhausted after each nights performances because we just crashed in our room during the day and did minimal spending.
Anyway, I don't have any major complaints with NPGMC. I love Prince's music and I appreciate what he's trying to do, and at this point, I'll continue to support him.
I don't want to turn this into a racial thing, but as a black woman, I'm motivated by Prince's desire to break away from the status quo and carve his own path. You can only bang your head against the walls for so long until realize the system is never gonna change, at least not in your lifetime. Then, you can either throw up your hands in despair and be unhappy for the rest of your life or try a new path. Prince chose to try a new path and to me, the mistakes he has made along the way are minor compared to the end goal.
Sorry for rambling. shrug

Anyone who thinks that this live set is going to do well commercially must be smoking the wacky weed. The average consumer isn't going to want this any more than they wanted TRC. If people see a Prince live disc in a store, they might be interested long enough to pick it up & think "ooh, maybe this will have Purple Rain, Kiss, Cream & Gett Off." But when they turn it around to look at the songs included, what are they gonna see? None of those songs for starters, & a bunch of music they've never even heard of. So, that same consumer is going to instead walk over to the Ms & pick up Paul McCartney's new 2 CD live set filled with instantly recognizable songs to anyone with even the most rudimentary knowledge of popular music.

After reading all this complaining I dont know what 2 say - My first reaction when reading the Headline was
Wooo Hooo !!!

I'm excited & I can't wait 2 get the CD set. I am still a proud member of NPGMC & it was well worth paying $100 in my eyes because we had PRIME seating at the concert as well as sound check access & after show - there is NO price you can put on that. If you chose NOT 2 attend a concert - how the hell can you blame anyone but yourself!!

Well anyways - I'm happy, I can't wait 2 receive the CD set - I think it's the most awesome thing Prince has done and I think we should ALL be appreciative instead of bitching & whining like a bunch of ungrateful kids !!!

& that's all I have 2 say about that...

I LOVE YOU PRINCE - bring on the muzik !!!

The npgmc exclusive ONA piano cd imo is absolutely breathtaking and everybody who is listening to it in my house, especially non prince fans, wants to have a copy of it.

The celebration alone was worth attending. Yes we paid 250$ for the entire week. However, a limited amount of tickets at a 100$ per nite was available for non members. If a non member attended each nite that would have been altogehter 700$! On top of that every member received the days of wild single for free which is now circulating on the internet for a lot of money.

In the retail section you could buy the members only singles the work and days of wild.

Unfortunately I only attended one concert in Berlin which I do regret now. The organization was perfect and the seating plus the soundcheck alone made everyone feel special not to mention that the 3hours plus concert was absolutely breathtaking.

And yes I would have preferred 4 different cd's too, but since Prince is at his best Live I am really happy to receive ONA Live. After all, it took him 25 official albums to release this Live album. Altough except xenophobia, there are no so called new songs on the set, almost every song is newly arranged. I do really love the TRC studio version but I have to say the Live version of the songs are in another dimension. In a way they are like a new album.

Finally I don't understand why so many people are waisting their energy complaing. Wait until the 2nd year of the club has come to an end and state your opinion then. Maybe there will be surprises, maybe not but I guess:

You can please some of the people all of the time.
And you can please all of the people some of the time.
But you cannot please all of the people all of the time.

The club never offered any "exclusive" CDs, only that members would get them first. It may have been implied that only members would get them but it left open the possibility that they would be available to non members thereafter.

Nor was the promise ever made of "new" music in the sense of songs never heard before. New in terms of format (first time on cd, first time live, etc.), but not "new music" per se.

If the cds arrive to members before they hit retail, at its very basic level, the club has provided what it promised. To the letter of the law, maybe not to the spirit, but to the letter.

I'm not a member of NPGMC this year, but I was seriously considering stumping up the $100 for a decent 3CD live album. So I'm delighted it's going to retailers!

It is sad that the majority of you people here is complaining all the time. How can you be so materialistic? How can you put money before art? I feel (sorry)sad for you. Calm down, relax, and focus on the music. Forget about the rest. When the box set arrives at your doorstep you will be blown away by its content. Guaranteed.

As I stated in another thread, if someone said they went to the store and bought 3 CDs, naturally, their friend is going to say, "Which ones did you buy?" He's not going to turn around and say Emancipation!!! 3 CDs imply 3 different, separate projects. And no matter how much you want to debate the semantics of the English language, we all know this is what is normally thought of! If I went out and bought SOTT, I'm not going to say I bought 2 CDs. And no one else here would say that either, including Prince and probably yourself.

And seeing as how no one in the industry (including Prince) uses the term "album" anymore, why would I distinguish between the two ("Oh, he said 4 albums not CDs, so that means 4 separate projects!")? Give me a break. There's no defense for this, so please stop trying. All we're doing is airing our gripes about this so called club!

the club year isn't over until mid feb - making assumptions either way about if we get any more CDs after ONA-Live is premature. It's amazing to me to see how upset people are because they assume nothing more is coming. Instead, I'm more concerned with how much longer we have to wait to get ONA-Live. I'm really looking forward to hearing this album.

holy crap, what rock have you been hiding under? the club ENDS on 12/31/02...if you don't believe me, look on the club's page, or e-mail them...if they bother responding, they'll confirm that this year is over in slightly over a month...and according to best buy, the ONA live set goes to retail on dec. 17. considering that set hasn't even been mailed out to club members yet (which based on the 3-4 week period it has taken for me to receive anything else from the club AFTER they say it's shipped), i think it's fairly reasonable to assume we won't be getting anything else. jeez, at this point even if they PROMISED something else, i wouldn't believe them. they have NEVER given us ANYthing but thet absolute bare minimum...

It's not about the money!

As a member you should be treated more special than average Prince-consumers and not pay the double amount to get the same stuff!
The point is that you can buy this album for half the amount of money at the shops two weeks later! Thát's what we're talking about!

I mean look at all the speeches and interviews he gave about CONtracts and how dishonest their intentions are. And what does he do? He tries to get out of his own CONtract with his most loyal fams, by saying he ment 4 CD's instead of 4 albums! That's really weak and totally hypocitical!! And for what purpose? The only possibility is money. It can't be a creativity-issue, 'cause the other 3 promised CD's are ready for shipping! He said it himself at the soundcheck of one of his US-shows.

And now he has become mr. money minder himself, as Tony warned us about in '91! Just look at the prices of the aftershows... totally out of proportions, because he knows his fams will come anyway...

IT'S JUST SAD!!!
