Is there a reason that the track on disc 3 is called "Dorothy Parker" and not "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker"? Was it dramatically different during the performance? Anyone know which performance it was, and was actually in attendance?

Just curious... and too impatient to find out for myself!

You're missing the point as most simpletons seem to do here. Not everyone did, wanted to, or even could, attend the concerts. We paid $100 for 4 CDs of exclusive, new Prince music, which we have not received. Anything else was incidental & almost always cost much more.

No, I think you're missing the point! The Club clearly promised the prospect of preferential seating. It was a central part of the membership promises and it was for you to determine if you wanted/would be able to take advantage of it. Whether you decided to join or not, the offer was still there.

Thank You!!!

Why does a "flyer" have a barcode on it? Is this the actual back of the box for the package? It has the track listing and everything. If so, it must be a long-box package. Whatever, just gimme. present

Well some of the idiot fans did expect a audience recording. It is one of the things that people on this site have been bitching about since an annoucement about the live disc was made.

In addition, I do not see anything wrong with putting the disc in the stores. I listend to some of the cd on Joe Kelly's radio show yesterday. The discs are kick-ass and the public should have a chance to hear it. It may also motivate more people to join the club or come out to the concerts. It could be a great marketing tool for Prince and he would fool not to use it.

Club members are getting it before everyone else stop being so evil and greedy.

I have send a mail to npgmusicclub to know if the ona live is one of the 4 cds for the members or the last 3 cds of the year. Response:
" we don't know. the pack will be sent very soon to you but only Prince knows if there will be other cds before the end of the 2002 membership..."

Wait... and see!!!

my god,why do people bitch about "he better gives us another cd by the end of the year" ???!!!

u were promised 4 cd's...u got 4 CD'S! ONA plus 3 discs of ONA Live,i believe thats 4 CD'S ISNT IT!??
GET OVER IT!
also,if u could have attended a concert & been at the sndcheck, but didnt, dont whinge that u didnt get 2 use ur privalliges.
I am not a member, but if i was,i wouldnt give a damn that ONA Live will be out in retail.People will get 2 hear this new side of Prince, with a live set thrown in their faces hopefully, maybe Prince will get some f%$#in' respect down here in OZ,cos he deserves it.
If i had joined, the money spent on membership would have paid 4 the cd's...plus lef over about $50au...which would have gone 2 sndchecks,aftershow/party (if there was one either in OZ or at all) & preferred tickets, damn that is good value if u ask me! especially here in Australia, where with ONA & ONA Live being imports maybe (if Shock dont put it out like they did with TRC) it works out about right.

brings back my point again...Prince fans need something 2 whinge about all the time disbelief

The opportunity to attend the Celebration alone was worth way more than $100, imo.
Seven nights of amazing live music, not just from Prince, who's in a class by himself, but from the other musicians he invited.
I can't believe (well actually I can) people whining like two year olds over a club that's only two years old. In the same way the Celebration, as great as it was, has lots of kinks to iron out, so does the NPGMC.
The NPGMC is still in its infancy, but I give Prince major points for trying something new without major financial backing from any large corporation. And as I've said before, musical genius he may be but Prince is never gonna set Wall Street ablaze with his business prowess. smile
It's true we are part of the experiment that is NPGMC. But the beauty of it is we have a choice. If $100 dollars is gonna take food out of your kid's mouths or put you behind in bills you need to pay, don't join now. Wait a couple more years and see if the NPGMC grows into something more substantial and organized or doesn't or goes completely under. But don't join at the ground floor then constantly complain it's not perfect.
All I'm saying is keep it in perspective. There's nothing wrong with complaining if you're unhappy, but stop acting like you invested in some dot.com company and now are out tens of thousands of dollars.

another thing...ONA Live is new prince music (recordings at least)
can't ppl at least b greatful about that?
i am pshyched that this set is coming out.
& if i cant buy the 3rd disc in retail (cos i need that cut of JoyInReptition!) i can always get it burnt from my buddy Vince. (His name is Vince...& he is fonky!)

b greatful that u get new music (whether its exclusive or not,its NEW PRINCE!) & b greatful that with ur membership u got 2 a sndcheck (if he toured where u r) cos people i know would die if they had the chance.

"Bitching" occurs whenever ANY type of Prince release occurs. The "fan" base is so fractured at this point he would be better off not releasing anything for 3-5 years.
I have heard this type of response for the last 6 years whenever any Prince recordings are released. This is a direct result of the internet .

ONA live will technically fullfill the 4 CDs offered by the club, but it doesn't seem in the right spirit.

Year 1 we got lots of exclusive music, but because so many people complained about the trouble with downloading, they put out that questionnaire about if we'd prefer the music sent direct on CD for slightly more money. So this Year when they said we were getting 4 CDs I think it was entirely logical to expect continued exclusive content, not something available in shops, otherwise what's the point of joining the fan club rather than just going down to the record shop.

I'm sure everyone knows by now that the close seating at concerts and stuff are also perks, but if it's such an 'inclusive' perk why did I have to pay so much extra for the tickets? Wasn't that covered in the club membership? Fact is the CDs are the only part of the club you can guarantee to every member world-wide, so that should be the bit you definately get right and make sure everyone's happy about, otherwise they're gonna lose a lot of members next year needlessly.

I really feel those who didn't have the chance to attend a concert should feel justifiably hard-done by.

Really though, who buys 4 CDs for $100 without knowing what they are and when they'll turn up??

I only joined when I knew P was coming to Manchester, and IMHO the concerts justified joining - the best nights of my life (I hope the wife doesn't read this!!)

If he hadn't came, I would have waited until I knew what the CDs were before signing up.

Mind you, I still would have joined, I think ONA and ONA Live is enough for a fan to pay $100, including shipping to the UK. Especially if HMV are charging like US$75 for the live set on its own.

I could be wrong (I didn't go to the Celebration) but I was under the impression that you guys paid for the tickets for the Celebration - it wasn't covered in the $100 membership was it? That WOULD be a good deal smile I seem to remember tickets for the Celebration being a lot more than that, correct me if I am wrong.

I can't believe (well actually I can) people whining like two year olds over a club that's only two years old. In the same way the Celebration, as great as it was, has lots of kinks to iron out, so does the NPGMC.

Don't you think that 2 years is quite enough time to learn to run your business properly?

The NPGMC is still in its infancy, but I give Prince major points for trying something new without major financial backing from any large corporation. And as I've said before, musical genius he may be but Prince is never gonna set Wall Street ablaze with his business prowess. smile

Agreed. Early adopters always get stung, in any venture. Particularly since you guys paid for something up front (shouldering a large portion of the financial risk for Prince's business venture) without knowing what you were paying for smile That's a suckers game, but you all had a choice. I chose not to, this year, having been somewhat disappointed with NPGMC in 2001.

All I'm saying is keep it in perspective. There's nothing wrong with complaining if you're unhappy, but stop acting like you invested in some dot.com company and now are out tens of thousands of dollars.

Agreed again... HOWEVER there is absolutely nothing wrong with complaining if you feel you didn't get what you paid for - it will help NPGMC in the future to learn from the experience. If the nice folks at NPGMC were to learn anything from 2002 I would say it is:

  • Tell people exactly what they are paying for, up front. If you don't know yet, don't take their money. Sell the CDs individually on your site as they are released. It's a more risky proposition, but I think you'll get more customers that way instead of asking them to shell out $100 for something they know not what
  • Charging someone membership fee back in February and then sending their music to them in December is not a good deal for the consumer.
  • The "concert perks" need to be be better organised. I went to the London gigs as a guest of a NPGMC member, and I sure as hell didn't feel like any VIP smile I wanna stroll in early, without queueing, take my allocated seat number, have a glass of wine and chat to the other fans and chill till Prince shows up smile
  • Selling people music that you already sold them before (half of ONA was included in NPGMC 2001 downloads) is a bad deal for the consumer and it makes them sad. As does 30 minutes of music for $25.
  • The majority of members can't avail of the concert perks. So to make up the $100 worth for the majority of the membership make sure there is a decent amount of music so no one feels ripped off.

I like and always haved liked the idea of NPGMC and I wish them all the best. However I was stung with 2001, and I sat on the fence in 2002 waiting for it to get good (it never did). 2003 is not looking likely for me, I'll sit tight and see what's on offer.
