Ice Magazine article on "One Night Alone Live"

{{{Also mentions the lawsuit against the M'shelle Ndege Ochello related website: http://www.icemagazine.co...d_188.shtm

The Prince camp has announced the imminent release of a three-disc box set entitled One Nite Alone... Live, culled from shows earlier this year. According to a press release, NPG Music Club members will have the first opportunity to buy the set, although it will see traditional distribution throughout the world later this fall. The club’s online headquarters are at NPGMusicClub.com (ICE #170).

Culled from live stage performances and impromptu after-show gigs along the tour, One Nite Alone... Live will include a 48-page book of photos and liner notes. The announced track list: Disc One — "Rainbow Children," "Muse 2 the Pharaoh," "Xenophobia," "Extraordinary," "Mellow," "1+1+1 is 3," "The Other Side of the Pillow," "Strange Relationship," "When You Were Mine" and "Avalanche."

Disc Two — "Family Name," "Take Me With U," "Raspberry Beret," "Everlasting Now," "One Nite Alone...," "Adore," "I Wanna Be Your Lover," "Do Me, Baby," "Condition of the Heart," (Interlude), "Diamonds and Pearls," "The Beautiful Ones," "Nothing Compares 2 U," "Free," "Starfish and Coffee," "Sometimes It Snows in April," "How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore" and "Anna Stesia."

Disc Three (subtitled The Aftershow: It Ain’t Over!) — "Joy in Repetition," "We Do This" (featuring George Clinton), "Just Friends (Sunny)," "If You Want Me to Stay," "2 Nigs United 4 West Compton," "Alphabet St.," "Peach (extended jam)," "Ballad of Dorothy Parker," "Girls & Boys" and "Everlasting Now."}}}

Prince and Paisley Park have always proved to be prickly about pirated recordings. On October 3, soon after announcing the imminent release of the box, Paisley Park Enterprises filed a lawsuit against the operator of FreeMyHeart.com, a Meshell Ndegéocello fan site. The suit accuses the Seattle-based site operator of distributing illegal recordings from Prince’s June Xenophobia tour. While the announced track list for One Nite Alone... Live promises no material from the week of Xenophobia performances, Prince has never hesitated to file suit against Web sites trafficking his bootleg recordings. He sued nine sites in 1999, including a suit against the fanzine Uptown, which he dropped once the fanzine agreed to stop publishing bootleg discographies.

"Ice" get the inside word on it all, so I guess this confirmation from them is a lot more than what you get from NPGMC

Ooh, lucky us, huh? As if we could not control ourselves as well as the rest of the world & wait to buy it at Best Buy? As if we didn't pay for this slap in the face to his fans back in February? Lucky us.

I think we all should be grateful to receive the cd set a week or two before the official release (shouldn't we?)

Agreed ,PurpleLove7.

Well, I must also say that for the club members, there should be something just a little extra that only we recieved with the package.

Like an exclusive DVD, diffferent packaging, heck, a sticker...something special for members only.

Kinda like what big corporations are doing with Best Buy. They offer a Best Buy only extra something to get customers in the "gates".

One of the perks though I see via the club for now is the ability to get those few first tickets to Prince's Jay Leno appearance. I thought that was rather cool.

There's just been so much debate going about how much worth joining the club has been that I'm sure it's reached Prince.

Paisley Park really should just add somthing special so members just don't feel like they got first grabs at the set.

Then a month later see it in the bins for the rest of the masses and go "Oh yeah...I got that first.".

Naw...that's not cool.

On another tip, I can't wait to hear what "2 Nigs United 4 West Compton" sounds like!

I'm not sure about that third disc...

I just saw George Clinton live, "We Do This" is just a rambling vocal set to a sparce groove; "2 Nigs United 4 West Compton"...hmmm..."If You Want Me To Stay", "Sunny":pretty "mellow" stuff; never cared for "Peach".

Disc 3 grade: B-

Some people seem to be unclear on this matter regarding the One Nite Alone Live Box Set. NPG MUsic Club members are to recieve the box set as part of their membership. At No Extra Cost. If u r currently a paid NPG Member, u will be getting the CD in your mail soon. It has shown up on my Account on the NPGMUSICCLUB website.

Hey, I'm sorry - I don't mean no negativity, but the ONA Live, is that the show in NYC with the aftershow at "The World"?

That stunk!

I just see the tracklist and it looks a bit like it - is it the same show as on ONA... not so alone?

I don't know for sure but...I don't think it's taken from just one concert and or afterparty...I think bits and pieces are taken from this show or that...but like I said...I'm not sure.

First of all, I don't know what it says on ya'lls NPGMC retail account page but mine says One Nite Alone Live Box Set... Cost $0.00. So, we're not getting charged for it. Check before you start whining.

As for your remark about the NYC show and afterparty, Disdain4theunfunky, I was there and I thought that it was absolutely great! Everyone that I've talked to that was there also thought it was amazing. I guess you're in the minority on this one.

Well - if I'd been in the audience, I'm sure I'd love it too. All I am saying is that as a live recording, a lot of other shows do more for me. La di da di, we like to parti... that shit is getting a bit old, I think.

I don't know, maybe I'm just sour cause the NPGMC is putting out something that I already own, not that that's Prince's fault, of course.

But to say that the prize is $0.00... I am not whining - I just joined for the soundcheck of the concert anyway - but I've most certainly paid for the ride.

Hmmm...

Well, come on guys and ladys. Technically we have paid for this cd set (remember, membership) before the public. Perhaps, we shouldn't be throwing a gripe about paying double until we are actually asked to pay. I don't think we will be because when I click for details about the order, there is no charges.

I could be wrong of course.

It's such a relief to know that this live box set will have some of the hits that made him famous, while at the same time, providing listeners with rare treats that Prince doesn't perform every time that he goes out. Definitely also a good thing that it will be available to everyone and not just club members.

Gosh, it's so depressing to hear all the moaning and griping about ONA Live! I can't wait to get it, I was blown away by the show and had a fantastic time! There's a lot of it that I want to hear again and again, so this set can't come too soon for me. Can't wait to hear 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton and Joy In Rep. Disc 3 will have the most surprises for me since he didn't do an aftershow in my town. Can't wait!

And I agree with those who say we already paid for it. It's not free, we pre-paid for it with our membership. Which is fine, we knew it, we chose to do it not knowing what we'd get, and I'm happy with it. I'm rubbing my hands together in anticipation!
