TRC Review in Swiss magazine "Weltwoche" There's a very positive review of TRC in this week's edition of the well-known Swiss news magazine "Weltwoche". I won't bother to translate it, but it basically says that TRC is up there with Purple Rain, SOTT and other classic Prince albums and that it is now (since when?) available in Switzerland not only as an import, but is being distributed by Disques Office (?).

the rainbow children is pretty ok, but still, musically i think it's brilliant, but prince's voice sounds somehow tired on most songs... and not enough convincing.
1+1+1=3 is only intersting towards the end i think, but still sounds lame and secondhand, i'v heard it already a dozen times by now, and still it doesn't get me out of my chair. strange that prince is still putting so much energy in this somehow 'older' album (over 1 year old ithink, not?!). i think this has alot to do with him thinking people go for the message, rather then the music. is it his jehova duty to spread the word, if not frm door to door, then from country to country trhough various little distribution companies? well money surely has alot to do with it also i think... probably i do not hope prince will only see music as a temptation for other people to buy his stuff, so he can go on and try to clear out his view of the world.. or better, the urge of the jehova pressure. The recent tour overhere in Europe showed us a prince that starts to know that he can only harmhimself with it , if it becomes too much of it all. no probel with shouting "we come together as one", as long as he sticks to his real self. and too much his mind. Live he's good, but i miss the excitement of him personally. he knows damn well his job, and does it perfect. and that's it. it gets a 8 out of 10. but tha's because he is such a hard worker and a damn good player.. but the joy did become a technical knowhow. i do like the dark side of the rainbow children album a lot.. the weird stuff and the noisy wild prince on some extentions of some songs... like for instance on familyname, he gets wild and crazy at the end... pure stuff! and if he ever wanted this album to sound light and colourfull like the title wants us to believe, then my personal experience is that it's a very dark album, musically as well as lyrically, no matter the meanings of the end result as "come together as one" chant... for me this is Prince's Apocalyps Now, or better his own interpretation of the end of the world of believe... more or less. no hits on here, not many great or outstanding songs as well, but still very intersting as a whole... i wonder how many people are still and actually listening to it? i listen to it from time to time. and when i do, it's more then 4 times in a row. and then i put it away for a few weeks months. i need to understand every album he has made, and it always takes me some time, if not a long period of discovering new things and layers.. that's what makes me hunt for prince's tune. the swis review is pretty ok.. WHy did he actually made the rainbow children? because of his believes? larry? john blackwell? i do wonder so much why.. anywone? Yowan | |
