This is so sad. His music was played 59 times in a week in the entire country. Ummm...This is not a lot.

Back in the day his new music was played seemingly hour on almost every format compatible station in the country.

But rest assured that Prince knows this. Although he claims not to care about radio play me and friends walked into an off-limits room (by accident) at the Celebration last year and there was a copy of this very same magazine sitting on the table.

oneYes

why can't there be ONE radio station network, or one good station in each major city, that plays stuff because it's good, and not based on how much record labels pay them to play it? sad, sad, sad.

They played it on 102.9 2day in the Bay Area!! (but I missed it) Funny, this station is labeled, "the quiet storm"...mostly old school soul/r&b. It's not a big, big station but one that those who like slow/midtempo grooves get down 2 razz It seems 2 fit perfect on this station...but what about KMEL (106.1) and WYLD (94.9)??? These r both big radio stations here that r OWNED by the same company...in other words, we hear the same 5 songs every hour...NO LOVE...bastudzzz

i really hope this becomes a big single. TRC deserves to be heard. Then Prince can unleash a follow up with another gem of an album on to a larger eager audience..

I know...WHUR is the shit when it comes to Prince. I thought I heard the VERY end (the sound effect after the ending guitar note) on the Quiet Storm the other night, but I wasn't sure. I knew it sounded familiar, but it was so quick and little that I didn't get a chnace to even know it was that!!

But, notice that Detroit is playing the most and is the only city that has two stations playing it... smile We haven't forgotten about the man...

Well the fact that Prince got played 59 times is very surprising, because honestly I didnt think there were 59 dj's with brains out there. It is very surprising in this day and age, because now basically record companies buy their hits and tell the stations which track to play. In the 70's a Dj could play a whole side of Led Zeppelin 4, now he would only be able to play Stairway to heaven 4,000 times. Radio has changed so much even since the 80's. Everything is paid for, not that there wasnt payola before but now its basically legal when before it wasnt. And very soon there will be only one record company. Universal Records (hence the title) has already made attempts to purchase EMI before it goes under and WEA. Isnt that Illegal. This is why if U look at the Top 10 songs which unfortunately I did (what a horror show), they all have been charted for 6+months, that shit never used to happen. Thats because radio has a NO FREEDOM at all, no one is breaking artists anymore, there is no more development. I was totally shocked that Norah Jones caught on, but that wasnt because of Radio, that was because of Word of Mouth, like it used to happen in the 70's people would see an artist and then TALK about it, U know have a MIND not be spoonfed their music. Had artists like ELTON, or Billy Joel or QUEEN, or SLY come out now, they would never make it. None of these artists had HITS off the bat, they all PLAYED and caught on, ELTON JOHN blew Up because of 1 show that he played in a LA club in 1970, the same thing could be said of Billy who took off because of his Live work. I'd like to see the current TOP 10 break in because of their LIVE WORK, do U think that NELLY, or ASHANTI, or one of those new lame rock bands (default, nickelback, etc...) could blow anyone away with a LIVE show, no way, never, not going to happen.
