One Nite Alone review May 14/ 02

Hello everybody,

ALl day I spend reading the post that person in Quebec wrote about receiving his One Nite Alone cd. I kept thinking if Prince's people were sending it out to us Canadians first because Mani was Canadian... no of course not. It makes no sense. WElL {{{I live in Toronto and just received mine !!!!

Here is a review.}}}

One Nite Alone - very me'shell ndgeochello like. spoken/sung.
His falsetto is soaring. It's quite an interesting song. At times you can hear him lightly pounding his boots to keep beat.

U're Gonna See Me - falsetto througout - he sings the line 'gimme a page on my 2 wayand I'll hit u back with no delay'.

These lyrics don't seem to fit an album that seems as serious as this one.

Here On Earth - GREAT SONG, the first part is him speaking in a deep voice about a girl who hates him, etc. There are light drums on this one. Then it builds to him singing in a beautiful voice' here on earth, here on earth - with u, not so bad'.
This one should have gone on for 20 minutes - great song, it's a shame he didn't continue.

A Case of U - I love his version. In the liner notes he dedicates the song to his father John L. Nelson. The verse he uses from Joni's song coupled with his dedication to his father makes this song especially touching. It's really nice to hear that he care so much and believed him self to be so like his father.

The crappy part is that this is one hell of a song by Joni Mitchell of which he used only 1 verse. I'd love to hear him sing the part where
Joni sings ' I drew a map of Canada, O Canada..."

HAVE A HEART/ OBJECTS IN THE MIRROR/AVALANCHE

these songs seemed to go into one another. The first two didn't really make an impact on me - YET.

Avalanche had a clever lyric at the end " mr. Hammond with a pen in hand/sayin 'sign your kingdom over to me and be known throughout the land// adn you got no money/you ain't got no cash/ so sign yo name and he claims innocense/ just like every snowflake in an avalanche.

Pearls Be4 SWine- same as the version he sent us in September. This one of the catchiest tracks on the album.

Young and Beautiful - not sure of this one.. fastest track on the set and starts off with a oriental type of melody

Aboretum - instrumental

Overall, it's hard to judge how much time Prince spent on these tracks. I hate to say it but it sounds like he did not spend a great deal of time. Having said that.. I must say that to hear an artist of Prince's magnitude so stripped down is quite thrilling. As often the case, I believe some of these songs will grow on me. "here on earth', "one nite alone' and 'a case of u' are songs I've already played
a few times since getting this from the mailbox 90 minutes ago.

Though I wish he'd go into his vault and give us piano version of "open book' - I am very happy with this cd. He is listening to the fans and connecting with us more than ever... and more than any other major artist I can think of.

I look forward to all of your reviews.

Oh for gosh sake go get a Visa debit with your checking account and quit belly-aching!!

It's not like it's hard to get a Visa # to use. You can even get a prepaid Visa now days...or just give a friend the cash and let them put it on their card. You do have friends don't you? Or are they all tired of your belly-aching too??
