Speaking of artists, the Artist Formerly Known as Prince (Lord, that is a ludicrous mouthful!) might
be on a road to a new, slightly more accessible persona. As Hurricane Floyd buffeted New York,
Clive Davis presented Prince's new album, with the singer himself blasting off with an hour-long set
at the Equitable Life Building auditorium. Dressed in a red-hooded something-or-other, Prince
electrified the assembled rock journalists -- about 200 strong. Afterward, he mingled and chatted so
amiably that the media types were almost reduced to speechlessness themselves! (Online scribe
Roger Friedman even got up the nerve to kiddingly chide Prince for releasing too many CDs -- "I'm
running out of space!" The rock star, not known for his sense of humor, laughed.) The new album is
titled "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic," and according to those who attended the mini-concert, it's
chock full of hit singles.



My advice? Kid, go back to calling yourself Prince -- which is your name, after all -- and just make
great music. Oh, and keep talking to the press.
