Review of Patti Smith's new CD/compilation "Land" mentions her cover of "When Doves Cry"

http://www.startribune.co...16468.html

• Patti Smith, "Land (1975-2002)." Words and music so poetic, so primal, so political, so powerful. The first disc is studio stuff (including a cool new take on Prince's "When Doves Cry") and the other disc, which is sometimes eccentric, is live stuff, demos and rarities. An essential collection of rock as artful and urgent as it gets.

hilarious. i submitted this as news over a month ago, but it was decided to be not newsworthy. hmm smile

And I submitted several items about this compilation on January 27, which were all posted. Of course, none of these are online anymore thanks to Ben & Kevin not considering migrating the news items database before putting the new site online (which isn't an inprovement at all)...

My first thought when I saw this headline was "Isn't this old news? Didn't I read this awhile back?"
Guess there are some Patti Smith fams lurking around the org.!

Patti did a good job on the cover. I own the Pormo CD soingle of the song. It could have bee junk like the tribute CD "If I Was Your girlfriend". She did justice to the song.

actually the site will be an vast improvement over the old site once "killfile" and "search" options are added...

Which should have been there in the first place. And which still won't make it as good as commonly available message board software.

God, you're an asshole Bart. Why don't you write that feature for the guys then? Or put up your own site with this much content and potential.

You know, I can almost understand when a non-technical person makes unreasonable complaints; they don't know what work is involved in running a site like this. But you must realize how much code and planning has gone into the new site, and I can't understand why you'd want to snipe at the guys who've made the best resource on the web for Prince fans.

You could try to contribute instead of just bitching. But I think you'd rather prefer to be the lazy hypocrite you are, wallowing in your own inadequacies.

It's commonly available, you've got the skills and even the clout to have your own news site just the way you want it. But you can't be "arsed".

Ok....

I saw Patti do this at First Ave once. I was skeptical thinking "Oh no, of all the Prince songs another version of When DOves Cry" But she really does a great great version and makes the song her own. Very cool!
