Q Magazine Prince Page...

Peace Famz, it seems like every Magazine OUTSIDE the U.S. of A. have a Good thing 2 say about P & a few Negative but this Article is Cool (i think)...

{{{check this out:
If Prince had a tin ear and hands of concrete, he would still be a great pop star. A fabulous dancer, a snappy dresser and a complete nutcase, he has many of the qualifications for immortality, including, of course his Olympian command of every pop tongue, from funk to metal to pop to R&B to rap to dance. Prince’s undoing has been his insanely high levels of productivity; if he’d made half the albums he has, he’d be spoken of in hushed tones of reverence. As it is, the 90s saw a raft of albums of wildly vacillating quality. But, at his best (by which we mean his 1980s output) he is unique and untouchable.}}}

Along with Michael Jackson, Prince is pop’s great enigma and quasi recluse. Unlike Michael Jackson though, whom he would cross the road to avoid, Prince is the only name still unticked on journalist and broadcaster Stuart Maconie’s wishlist of interviewees (there are technical difficulties with Nick Drake) although he did wave at him when drunk backstage at the Brits in 1995. Maconie has loved the little fellow since he first heard the extraordinary opening to When Doves Cry in the cellar of Blutos Bar in Wigan in 1986, and has worshipped him live. "He’s one of the most annoying, exasperating figures in pop," Stuart says, "but his best is so sublime you’d forgive him anything".

Q Mag, about 70% of the journos who write for that mag give mad love 2 Prince.

And then there is the other 30% who will write a crap review for his CD's.

They are probably one of the very few who as a whole write in a positive light on the man.

hang on, Q mag is about the only decent music publication out there - it appeals to the 30+ crowd, but has been generous to prince in the past.

just remember people, people can give prince a bad review without it meaning the mag itself is shite...you never know, the reviewer may actually have a point....

I think Uncut is the best music mag the UK has to offer. Q is very predictable, you know what ratings every album is gonna be given even before you flick to the review. It is good they give Prince a mention still. Ie his albums get major page coverage despite being on a indie label, They gave 5 stars to Diamonds And Pearls though and still rate it as one of his best albums so my dig is justified..hang on i complained they were predictable..doh!

Q rules.

Great mag, absolutely fantastic, lots of interesting stories, cool photos. And often a rather nice CD as a little giveaway.

And hey, I guess it is absolutely ok if somebody writes about Prince who is not an absolut fan of him - I guess neutrality is a good thing (hey, who out of the org regulars would give Prince anything than a 5star rating).

Just bubbling along
