Alicia Keys new single

{{{Alicia Keys latest single release to radio is "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?"}}} - good timing! Hopefully people will remember who did the song first!

Great , now maybe the sheet music will be released! The royalties will pay for Prince's new round house.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!

I heard her version on VH1. It's terrible.

I just hope the song does really shit as she probably won't give Prince any credit, despite him writing it.

Her version is not that bad! OK, a little slick maybe. But you should hear the live versions of the song she did during her concerts. Very impressive. She's a great performer and her show in the Melkweg in Amsterdam from last December was an event I won't easily forget.Ï

Her album version is pretty bad, but the version she did live on Jools Holland in the UK was absolutely breath taking. I don't think even Prince has done it that well..Truly spectacular, and she looked so attractive as well. I think the problem with the album veriosn is the crappy drum beats..When she does it accoustically/live it really shines! IMHO anyway wink

I don't think Alicia's voice is all that good. She's just so-so.

Nikka Costa's voice is WAY stronger and funkier.

I think she did a very good version of it. It's her personal interpretation, but she does the original justice.
I hope it comes out on sheet music too. I've always wanted to sing that song!

I heard it on the radio yesterday on a top 40 station here in LA (KIIS FM). I LOVE it! I think she does a good job. This will be another one of those songs that people will say, "Prince wrote this?? Man, he's everwhere!" smile This will be a positive...

Always one of my favorite Prince songs. Alicia's album version is okay...was that drum rhythm #17 on her Casio keyboard? And I can just imagine how good she is in concert.

I've always had a problem with artists releasing cover songs though. It's fine to record them and put them on an album so we can hear a different interpretation but don't release it as a single to make $$$. Especially when the original version is better. Isn't your own music good enough?

If it makes people want to search out the original and gets more Prince fans then that's a good thing but you can't tell me that is the reason for releasing it.

Sorry, just one of my pet peeves. I can't think of any remakes that were released as a single that were better than the original. And very seldom does the original artist get much mention.

I felt that the version on the album was nothing new. She even emulates Princes vocal interpritation exactly. It's basically the same as his with a kick drum, a cheesier piano sound, and a girl singing rather than Prince.

Pointless.

Yeah, like with Betcha By Golly Wow, I couldn't believe that was a single!!! What a stupid single. As far as Alicia Keys' single is concerned. It's just plain old pop. She's not great, but she's not too offensive with her songs, so she's perfect for radio. She slaughtered the song both on stage and in concert. Although I've never seen her play it in concert, I remember reading a review where a phone booth was in the middle of the stage, she goes in, dials a number, someone answers "hello?", and she abruptly hangs up.

(note sarcasm) Oh yeah, what a kidder. Too shy to talk to that guy. So funny. (end note sarcasm)

How could she do that with such a beautiful song? In my opinion, it doesn't show Prince or the song any respect. But, if it'll give Prince money to make more music, then let it be released.

why o why must we suffer threw halfbake artist like Alicia Keys? Time and time again.....VENTING TIME: Why does an artist like Alicia get airplay while she is barely starting to mold her talent and an artist like Meshell cant get no play? huh? huh?

why is it that everytime Meshell is interviewed they always got to ask her about her sexuality? why? huh? huh?

why is it Meshell can't get no play on rock & roll stations? huh? huh?

why is it everytime Meshell sends an album to Maverick they gotta put it on the shell or threaten not to release it?

and finally....why is it that artist like Alicia Keys arent given time in the club circuit to nurture their talents before being thrust upon the public pop arena?...instead they are overhyped and oversouled and end up spending years trying to explain why they were hyped to death in the first place (think alanis, jewel, lauren,) and the truly talented are left in bizaro land? WHY WHY WHY????

Heard it on the radio this morning. I didn't like it when I first heard her album. And I still don't like it. This song does not sound right with the crappy hip-hop beat.

My thoughts also...but the song itself is still strong enough in melody and structure to elevate it a bit past pointlessness...lol..

I happen to like her version....but, ultimately, for me, it comes down to at least getting Prince's name mentioned on radio again...and he'll make some nice loot from the royalties.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I picked up the CD 4 a gift 2 a friend and was checking out the packaging....I noticed the song on there. I was sooooo curious 2 hear what it sounded like. 2 my amazement, she actually did a decent job. Not a lot of people can turn Prince's songs in2 a classy, funky piece...Alicia did really well.

Being that this is probably the most talked about song she performs (at least from my perspective), it doesn't come as much of a surprise. I attended one of her shows, and she really dragged this one out into a dramatic production, complete with a phone booth as a prop. She seemed to be using the song as a means of venting frustration over guy problems. Anyway, I think she's definitely got talent, she's great on stage (better than on record, in my opinion), and it's cool to see her give props to Prince not only by performing HCUDCMA, but also in her live cover of "Shh." I think she was fabulous on that tune, even better than on HCUDCMA.

I actually like her version quite a bit..I think she did a good job and I like Alicia keys, she seems quite talented, compared to alot of the synthetic pop around right now.
But does she really do "shhh" live????? That is one song I dont think anyone should touch! Wonder if she does it good...
