morris' album The live tracks are starting to grow on me. I am liking it begrudgingly. I'm still pissed about this. And I am surprised that it's featured in stores more than I thought it would be. Maybe if it does fairly well we'll get a proper album from The Time. I doubt it,though.
I wonder why The Bird is always performed so slowly live. It's such an energetic song originally. I wonder if it was this slow on the original recording and Prince decidedto speed it up to add energy. I have live boots of The Time and they sound great. I just wish Morris had released a whole concert instead of takes from from different shows. And why no old outtakes??Why??!! It's About Time has been getting more promotion than I thought it would too. I got it at Target, and it was displayed right in the front rack on the corner, first thing you see when you go into the music section. The live tracks are pretty good, but you're right-The Bird just seems a little off. I know it's not age-they could do the other material.
If only it was a new album with outtakes-which I doubt will ever happen cause of costs/legal issues with WB. Hollywood Records I bet probably saw this as an easy money making opportunity but weren't concerned with making a completely new album, and wanted enough old stuff to make sure people that remembered Purple Rain would buy it for those 2 tracks, making sure they got their money. I'm not so sure Hollywood would be willing to spend the money needed to fund/back a totally new album either. I hope I'm wrong on this eventually, I wish I was, but not so sure it'll happen. Shame they missed a chance to make something truly great instead of something that's pretty good, but more than obvious on the fact that it's a jump on the chance for people to make some cash on an anniversary. It could have been so much more-and it should've been a whole concert and maybe the 4 extra if they had to put them on there, which are ok, but not what people are buying it for. Unedited, maybe one full concert disc and one new disc if they had to have live material in there if the record company thought it'd help it sell would've been more ideal-but otherwise it's just something I think all us fans are hoping is just tiding us over till some actual complete new material. Hopefully there's a chance somehow it can be worked out-cause it'd be a long time coming. I'm still wondering what's up with the songwriting credits.Very strange. Maybe Prince is making amends for past sins. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

I know what you mean-I made a comment about that on another thread. Seems strange to me at least for Prince to just hand Morris sole songwriting credit except for "Girl".
Maybe it's another legal reason? Although I doubt an alias such as Jamie Starr would be grounds for legal complications for artists. I'm hoping Prince is behind the generosity.
