John Blackwell's daughter, Jia has passed. From NPGMC:
PRINCE CHICAGO SHOWS TO BE RESCHEDULED Due to a death in the family of NPG drummer John Blackwell , the PRINCE shows scheduled for this week in Chicago have been rescheduled. The show scheduled for June 28 will now play on July 22. The June 29 show will play on July 23 and the June 30 show will play on July 24. The PRINCE show that was scheduled for June 26 will play on August 3rd, as previously announced. Tickets for this weeks PRINCE shows will be honored on their rescheduled dates in July. Those who are unable to attend rescheduled dates will have refunds issued at the point of purchase. Our deepest sympathies go out to John and his family. Such horrible news.
I was the one who posted saying it was the son...so sorry if this was wrong. The story I got was from a good friend whose father plays piano in a hotel. Yesterday ..sorry I dont know their names but it was the trombone and alto sax player asked to jam with him. That was the story she gave me as she knew I was suppose to go see him tonight. I just cant even imagine the grief they are all going through right now. | |

She was a beautiful little girl. I'm truly sorry to hear of this tragedy. May GOD'S Peace & Grace, Love and Protection be with the Blackwell family and all who loved his precious child. Her precious soul is truly in Heaven. Jeux Sans Frontiers | |

This is tragic news, just tragic... 
John is such a nice and gentle soul...i'm sure his daughter felt the love that he must have had for her. Always, there's a reason for everything, even if we don't understand at our level. God Bless you John, and all of your family. Respect, for your talent, and more importantly, for your soul. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind. | |
