and Prince had not fallen out in 1982 and been sacked from The Time (okay they made up) and had subsequently become "house producers" for the Paisley Park label!!!!!

Imagine if Janet Jackson, Alexander O'Neal and all those other huge Jam & Lewis hits had been on Paisley Park records. Man that would have been a major label.

You could also throw in the other Prince related Producers like Jesse Johnson (Ta Mara and the Seen etc).

Bet Warner Bros would have then done anything Prince wanted to keep him sweet!

prince would have muffled jam and lewis' talent.....there would be no control, no hearsay.....

like jesse, jam and lewis would have grown bitter and ended up addicted to drugs..

If Jam & Lewis stayed with Prince, they wouldn't have gotten any credit or money for their work. Their albums would probably simply say "written and produced by Paisley Park."

Or Prince would ask them to work on his own music, finish demos, etc., then realize he was becoming too dependent on them and fire them anyway.

You know,I've always thought about this scenario too! Imagine if....


Prince never fired Jam and Lewis from The Time.He encourages them to write and produce other artists,and he signs them to be "in-house producers" at Paisley Park Records,the way Motown utilized several production/songwriter teams that worked exclusively for the label (Holland-Dozier...Freddie Perren,etc).The Time stays together,but various members are allowed to make solo albums on Paisley Park Records.In addition to Jam and Lewis,there was alot of talent in the Prince camp that Prince could have used for his label...

***Jesse Johnson proved to be a great producer,so he could have been hired as another in-house producer and brought acts like Tamara and The Seen and Da Krash to the label.

***Andre Cymone is another good producer that could have been utliized at Paisley Park (remember those great Jody Watley albums he produced in the late 80s?).


If Prince had done this,Paisley Park could have been the Motown of the 80s.With all those talented folks assisting,he could have concentrated mainly on his own career,and his label would have been a huge success.
