Would anyone happen to know how I can get a copy of "Friendly Fire". I can email my information and however much it costs.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Wendy plays chorus guitar on "Beautiful", and that's all. I asked her about it and she said she played on that one track but Lisa played on almost all of them.

Favorite video- Strung Out and all the rest smile

I kinda talked about this on another thread but hell, you asked. Adored Wendy throughout the Revolution days, and loved the first three albums. Favourite song - The Life.

Saw them live three times in London. First gig to support the first album and the next two to support the second. They were great live and The Life was one of my favourite live experiences - the stage bathed in a green light and all the other musicicans off, just the two ladies - Beautiful!

Prince was there on the last night I saw them. Wendy came out and said 'an old friend of ours is here but he is feeling rather shy - they then broke into Mountains and boy did the house rock. Shame he didn't join them - would have made a perfect gig trancendent.

Like all of you I would so love to see the three of them make music together again, but if P won't sort it out then I'll just have to get them to work with me.

I've got nothing but LOVE for the girlbrothers.. they really have come a long way, baby.

I remember going out & buying the cassette of their 1st, self-titled album in '87. I liked it enough- a lot, actually- but I thought they sounded more like a "side Prince project" then W&L. This 1st album was like a "self-exploration," a chance for them to see what they could do on their own. My favorite songs from this album are the Steely Dan-esque "Everything but you," "Waterfall" ( I did see the video ONCE) "Blues away" & "Song About"

Then with "Fruit at the bottom" in '89 the girls decided to get FUNKY with it. Excellent examples of "funk-pop" abound. My favorite here is "Are you my baby"- very funky bassline, very good & interwoven harmonies. I also liked "Lolly lolly," which to me sounded like a country song! I remember seeing W&L on SOUL TRAIN (back when Don Cornelius still hosted it) & they did "Lolly" on the show (I think the other song they did was "Are you my baby.") What I distincly remember about this performance was that Lisa's sister Cole was LITERALLY
"barefoot & pregnant" on stage during the lip-sync!
I also liked their collaboration with Jesse "Bad Time Member" Johnson. Jesse- for whatever reason- really got hooked on that line "get a little satisfaction" which, as any Time fan knows, originally came out in the FUNKY Time jam "The Stick." After The Time, Jesse used the "satisfaction" line in his own music, notably "I wanna be your man" at the end of the 2 main verses of the song. So it's not surprising that when collaborating with W&L he figured out a way to use it with them. He's not the strongest singer, but his voice compliments W&L's voices rather well. Other good songs: "(From now on) we're one"- classic W&L song, & "I think it was December." "Fruit at the bottom" is rather funky, but that "fruit at the bottom" repetitious yelling at the end of the song ALMOST works my last good nerve..

Then of course, there is EROICA. I totally agree with anyone who says that THIS is their best, most complete album. This is, in my opinion, the 1st "real" W&L album because it's all them- their ideas, moods, etc. I have the impression that somewhere, they said something like, "okay, we've done our 'pop album' [in '87] we've done our 'funk album' ['89].. now let's do OUR album.."

EROICA is a solid, eclectic mix of all of their musical influences: from rock to folk to funk to classical &
EVERYTHING in between. EXCELLENT music- the only song I can say that I'm not TOTALLY crazy about is "Don't try to tell me".. the orchestration is beautiful, but that 1 just kind of drags on for me. The rest, though:
Rainbow Lake- funky, quirky.. somehow reminds me of something they would do with BOOTSY
Strung Out- again solid, rather funky. I like the rhythm guitar in this 1
Crack in the pavement is kinda weird, kind of "all over the place" but I like it
Turn Me Inside Out- VERY GOOD, funky bassline throughout, good lyrics, even if they're not always coherent or consistent: "can you get to heaven faster if you build a higher wall?"

SKELETON KEY- for me, their BEST song. EXTREMELY FUNKY,
plus
they got Eric Leeds bringing even more funk on the sax. I didn't know they could be THIS funky. Everything in this song just fits PERFECTLY.

Then there's the song that was released on the "Strung Out" cassette single:
"Stones & Birth"- a cool, atypical song that nonetheless has most of the usual W&L elements
Mother of Pearl- the lyrics are way out there, but the music & the singing are very solid
Why wait for heaven- has that psychadelic 60s feel to it, with the (sitar?).. good vocal arrangements & harmonies
Staring at the sun- this is the "feel good" song on the album to me; Lisa's piano playing stands out
Valley Vista- I like this 1 a lot because it rocks & it reminds me of "Black Water" by the Doobie Brothers.. I've imagined myself dancing to this song with a toddler (my own, 1 day?)..
Porch swing- another quirky, offbeat gem.. maybe a little too long, but I do like the twangy guitar finish.
To me Eroica is BY FAR the best of their albums. This album should have done well commercially, it should have really put them on the map in some way..

Girl Bros. is a good album, the tone understandably different following the loss of Jonathan Melvoin. "Reaching One" is EXCELLENT. When I 1st heard that song, it literally took me a week before I even listened to anything else after that 1st track. "Bring You Back" is good, rather soulful. "I've Got a Big Bowl of Cherries" strikes me as being a sort of children's song- especially the title itself. The part at the end where Lisa sings "I'm thankful".. that music creates in my mind the image of a circle of small children holding hands & running, or singing (in slow motion) or something like that
"Let's say" starts out rather funky & then develops into something different. A good album overall, all things considered..

I know they've toured- they were even in the DC area a few times & I SOMEHOW missed them..
I REALLY want to see them in concert.

Of all the "Prince Protegées," they have as much talent as anyone else, if not the most. The period they wrote with Prince clearly was 1 of HIS best, most creative periods musically; the 3 complemented each other well. After the disbanding of the Revolution W&L went on to make some very good music. I respect that they found their own music identity & evolved it into something interesting. I hope that they will continue to learn & grow & release good music. They are too talented to not be better known.

Girl Bros, y'all keep on keepin' on..
& LET SOMEBODY KNOW WHEN Y'ALL ARE GOING TO BE IN DC AGAIN!

nothin' BUT love for W&L...

A Prince associated artist link would not be complete without discussing the dymanic duo themselves. Wendy & Lisa have come along way since the days of Revolution. From their genre forming masterpiece Eroica to the haunting yet acessible Girlbros. What's your thoughts, fondest memories, concert/album reviews for Wendy & Lisa.

I hated EROCIA I didn't get the concept!
I liked a few on Girl Brothers "Jonathan hits the heart"
My Favorite is Fruit at the Bottom/Wendy & Lisa Tied
Did you know they Played on Michelle Ndegeocello's Bitter.
That's a beautiful bit of work!
Altogether i thought they would be Bigger but somehow
they have missed the mark.
Remember that theme they did for a sitcom?

im just saying that wendy and lisa are 2 the funkiest white girls alive. (and nikka is catchin them). i met wendy and lisa at the West LA Keyboard Show a year after Fruit at the Bottom was released. Wendy kissed me on the cheek she was so happy this little hip hop kid knew all the words 2 the album. needless 2 say....a kid thought he was the baddest for years after that. even 2 this day, i gota watch the Prince and the Revolution video everyday, because my ideal woman is Wendy 1985 and 86.

Wendy and Lisa are talented and I think its amazing that they have stayed together after all of these years/ They had a website wendyandlisa.com. Its dead now, Fruit at the bottom was their strongest effort. They gave up the funk a long time ago.
