MORRIS DAY:THE SOLO STAR!

Morris day released 3 albums on his own! These were:-

1)The color of success (1985)
2)Daydreaming (1987)
3)Guaranteed (1992)

All are surprisenly good and as shown on his first 2 albums, he can write, arrange, produce and compose tracks on his own! His first 2 albums actually contain no real filler which surprised me alot!

"Color of success" is actually a pretty good album! "Oak tree" is a must-have jam and "Don't wait for me" is a surprisenly tender ballad that should of been released as a single. Plus the title track rules and basically if u love the minniapolis sound this is a must buy!

"Daydraming" again gets off to an epic (in 1999 way) with the glorious title track! Of course it's the Jimmy jam and terry Lewis contribution "Fishnet" that is the real highlight! To me, this is a classic funk track! Other jam and Lewis contribution "Love is a game" was a grower on me and now I love it! A mature performance by morris! Last track "sally" is perhaps one of the happiest sounding songs you'll likely to ever here! The song bounces innocently with good verses and a catchy, heartfelt chorus!

"Guaranteed" is the odd one out as Morris is no longer on the Minni tip as of the previous 2 (particually the first) and instead gets co-writers and producers in to update his sound into Newjack swing territory! despite a couple of good tracks, alot of this album is very average for Morris and unlike his previous 2 albums, his heart is not into this album at all! But if you like newjack then you will accept this Cd!

"Everlasting" is a good, happy ballad and my favourite cuts are 2 bernard belle contributions (he worked on MJ's "Remember the time amongst other things) the funky "Angel don't" and "Gauranteed"! Also worht mentioning is "Who's that girl" closes this album very well

Look out 4 the first 2 in paricular as they are extentions of the Times albums and are just as good if not better in my opinion! "Guaranteed" is 4 die hards and Newjacks only, but I quite like it though

As these 3 albums are also on the Warner bros. label, they have more than enough cuts to make a greatest hits of The Time witha couple of Morris solo tracks, plus outtakes from the corperate world sessions! Come on Warners! How cool would that prospect be though huh?

Check out his solo output, it will surprise ya if you think maybe his solo stuff was crap!

Anyone else know of these now hidden 80's gems.....

Morris is talented, but I was never really impressed with his solo work. The first album 'Color of Success' has some solid jams (my favorite is "The Character"),but the problem lies in the production. He simply uses too many synthesizers and the songs sound interchangeable. This problem surfaced again on his 'Daydreaming' album,a project that is notable only for the two Jam and Lewis-produced tracks "Fishnet" and the excellent slow jam "Love Is A Game".His third solo album 'Guaranteed' is yet another undistinguished and uninspired effort.

I've come to the conclusion that Prince is the only person who can produce Morris Day.The Time's albums are superior to anything that Day has done as a solo act.

Prince is the only producer for the Time because the Time only exists as an extention of Prince. To this day, the only reason anyone sees them live is because they are doing classic material that Prince made for them. When you dig out your first 2 classic Time albums, Prince is doing everything. We know this. Morris, Jesse, Jam and Lewis have more than proved their skills but the Time belongs to Prince and always will.
