Georgio Fan Club for disillusioned Prince fans on a budget

All Music guide says Georgio is from Mpls and then it says LA? Where was he from? I thought he was from New Orleans.

It would have been even funnier and more obscure if Dave Chapelle had a Georgio reference iwit the Micki Free reference in the Prince skit.

I don't know where he was born, but he claimed that he was from the SF Bay Area...he was a DJ in the city before pressing his own 12" of SexAppeal leading to Motown signing him. Georgio Allentini.

Hey there,

Can anyone tell me the significance of Georgio…I have seen others posted here, but don’t know the reference he has to Prince. Was he to be the new Prince? I know that my friend who turned me on to Prince also did the same to me with Georgio. Though I like (and still do) Tina Cherry, I have likened him to be a one-hit wonder (if he even had a “hit”) that sort of sounded like Prince…in the same vain as Ready for the World. Did Georgio do anything after his debut (which I thought was horrible)?

Just a curious child….

Georgio released 3 albums. He never quite got another hit like Sex Appeal. He used to bad mouth Prince and Micheal Jackson sayinh he was better than them. He objected when someone would say he looked like Prince. He is one of those flash in the pan Prince clones - and one fo my favorite. The video for Sex Appeal was great. Wish I could find it again

The video for SexAppeal was great...the best part though was the piano break when he was playing it on the girls azz eek) (The woman was nude and down her back was painted piano keys, if you can visualize it.)He wasn't a one hit wonder, he had about three minor hits singles. His first album was good, his second okay, and the third was forgetable. He was cool in the respect that he did everything like Prince (Written, Produced, Arranged, & Performed by Georgio Allentini.) I would like to find that first cd though...

I have all 3 on CD. The first album is actually remixes of the originials from the vinyl version - not unlike the special edition of Rave (hmm maybe Prince is copied Georgio that time) NOT!

Georgio was BUMPIN' back in the day...but I think I was
the only one Bumpin' him...

Sexappeal is a CLASSIC Prince ripoff. Tina Cherry had a
nice hook.

"1/4 2 9" always made me laugh at the song title.
(quarter to nine)

I wish I had that on CD, just tape....
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Wasn't there some controversy/rumor about Prince having taught him to play guitar and piano?Wasn't he sought after to join Paisley Park Records ,but he said Prince didn't want to pay enoughj and he wanted too much control?I also remember Georgio apperaing on Soul Train and he had a big bodyguard carry him on his shoulders through the crowd like Prince used to.

Boy,Georgiop and Mikkie Free!!That's a trip.I actually thought they would be around a while.I thought Mikki would be around longer than Georgio.Whatever happened to Mikki?Where is his wife? She was a blonde actress.

I was looking up some info on Georgio and saw that he wrote and directed some movie in 2002,I think.I'd be ineterested in seeing how he looks now. Some of those singles ghe had back in the day looked like pictures on Prince bootl;eg albums.

Here are the great Prince clones:Mikki Free,Georgio,Jesse Johnson,Morris Day(to a lesser extent),Andre Cymone(AC album),Stoney Jackson(actor),Dave Chappelle,Rick James(Glow period),my cousin,Billy Crystal(snl),Mazarati,Brownmark

Georgio almost became a Prince protege. In the mid-80s,his demo made it's way to Prince and there were plans to sign him to Paisley Park Records. But according to Georgio, they offered him a raw deal."Prince and BrownMark were gonna take all the credit for writing and producing my songs",he told Black Beat Magazine in a 1986 interview."Now I understand how Prince's thing works. He finds people who would do anything to become a star.I'm not one of those people".

I bet he wishes he did it. Motown didnt shoot him to the stars. The Prince connection would have helped

I don't think I believe him.P was probably gonna take his raw cuts adn redo them.Georgio was a little flighty, too.I remember him on Video Soul saying that he was a genius.

He was no genius, but I did listen to his first 2 albums.I thought the second one was more advanced. He experimented more with sounds.I wish I had those now.Remember that opening...staccato bass drum beat..."hello"....."he's-he's Georgio!!!"

I have all 3 albums in CD format - for some reason. I used to have that Video Soul interview on tape. I remember him saying that. Hilarious. He also saked if people wanted him t scratch his face with a comb for looking like Prince - or something to that effect. He was not too bright but the music was funky.

I never really thought that Georgio was all that talented. He was basically just another Prince clone from the mid-80s (you could make a list of all the male R&B artists who borrowed heavily from Prince during this period). His songs were fun and catchy, but not very substantial or memorable. It's not surprising that he soon faded away after just two albums.
