How much do you think Joshua actually did as "producer" on Art Official Age? When it comes to Joshua Welton, I just don't get it

AOA was more collaborative than HitNRun Phase 1, which is predominantly produced by Welton. As co-producer on AOA, you can discern Welton's more contemporary sounds and touches, which are even more evident on Phase 1. Those parts are reasonably attributed to Welton as they were not present in Prince's music previously or even during the same time period when Prince was not collaborating with him production-wise.

AMERICA1ST said: When it comes to Joshua Welton, I just don't get it I think a fair amount as the more modern sound is evident throughout, its not so prince in production in many places. Hannah and Josh clearly had a large influence over him, probably for the better. He seemed free and easy with 3eg and AOA sounded fresher in many ways than szy 2010 which to my ears was quite prince by numbers

ok but there were always elements that were not present in Prince's music until he brought them in with his career-long pursuit for change and innovation As someone who has beenthere since the first record, I dont see any way to know what Prince brought and what some other "producer" brought to the table. But then considering the weakness of the Joshua related material relative to all of Prince's solo works, perhaps there sould be a certain amount of responsibility attributed to Johsua. Phase 1 has a lot of lame EDM with Prince trying to sound young - or that is the feeling I get from it while AOA is a solid Prince R&B album.

Between '95-'98 there was alot of KAJ (outside production), credited or not. That said, if you have a good ear for Prince production, you can pick out what JW was involved in regarding the AOA album. "Whatever skin we're in
