Susan is fantastic. Smart, eloquent, and she holds an important place in Prince's music and life. He loved her too.

LOL lol You mean the article that he had pulled about a minute after it was released?? hmmm

Susan was the one responsible for Prince even HAVING a Vault at PP. He was mad at her for doing interviews and discussing some of the personal things about his life. Classic Prince. He ALWAYS lashed out at associates - in interviews or songs - who gave more information than he wanted the public to know.

They just played Purple Rain at a local Boston theatre and she came and spoke beforehand. It was really cool. She did almost like a presentation on Prince and music and what makes us love music. She had a slide projector and everything. It was pretty neat. I’d love to go hear her speak about just music theory in general. I might see if she has classes at the Berkeley school of music that you can audit.

I love her. Very smart and well spoken. There are some great videos on YT of her being interviewed and speaking about music and her studies in how people interpret sounds in music.

They really need to hire a writer. A good one.

Right. He was off and on with associates throughout the years - especially from 2011-2014 when some major Biographies came out. He really always wanted the mystery and/or did not want fans to know the reality of day to day life with him.

Really??? What an unnecessary dig. Clearly Prince thought she was worth having her as his main Engineer during the height of his career. I’d say that makes her quite a cool “white” chick. How many can say they spent almost 24/7 with Prince for 4 years straight and got to record some of his best music? Not many.

I have no doubt he was pissed about her decision to talk about some of her personal moments with him - especially the recording of the song Wally.

Nope. Did not go there at all. However, definitely supporting my point of why he was mad at Susan.

That's your narrative girl... Prince been stated why he was pissed at Susan Rogers. Some of y’all, and some Prince associates too (including Susan Rogers) love thinking y’all could read Prince’s mind so ya'll could create your "own prespectives..."

.

Prince wasn’t exactly hiding why he was pissed at Susan Rogers. I don’t know why your talking about the song Wally. The man explained that he took it as an insult when Susan was running her mouth about preserving his music for him. What don’t you understand??? He was insulted by her comment because he didn’t like that she was questioning his authority, like he couldn’t do shit for himself and make his own decisions, and do what the hell he wanted to do with his own damn music. As usual, you’re trying to spin it to what you rather believe happened... but if the man already talked about why he was pissed at her in the 2015 Ebony Interview, and still rallied back on the same issue again when he was writing his memoir with Dan P. , I think it’s clear that’s why he was pissed. lol Some of y’all might not like what he said about her, cuz y’all love hearing “the narrative she creates”, (like she said in the article...) but you can’t hide from it, or spin it, that the man didn’t have good feelings towards her, or wanted her in his life for quite some time. Even when Prince was pissed at other associates, he eventually brushed that shit off and still stayed/got back in contact with them. Not Susan Rogers though...

I find it quite funny that you continue to latch on to that Ebony interview, which Prince immediately pulled upon its release, as if it’s some kind of “gospel” with regard to his life. Were you really around for the whole of his career?? He lashed out ALL the time at those who he felt were invading his mystery or criticizing him in any way. This was his m/o from day one.
*
He was most likely defensive about her comments, because he KNEW the poor condition of his Vault at that time. Do you think he wanted the world to know? Nope. However, now WE KNOW how bad the Vault was, that some tapes were lost, and more would have been lost had it continued to remain that way.
*
People often go on the defense and lash out criticisms. Prince was no exception.

Yea, but you're sleeping on the implication that even though Prince pulled the article, it was somehow "still accessible..." And you're sleeping on the fact that even though he "pulled" the article, he still later rallied back and doubled down on certain subjects he spoke about in that article. This being one of them.... Just sayin

I hear what you are saying, but in all of his years Prince NEVER pulled an interview. Never Ever. It was telling.
*
Why would he change his stance about his anger toward Susan being critical about his lack of planning and preservation for his music? Of course he was still mad, because he was defensive about a situation that he knew was true. Instead of taking her comments as coming from a place of concern and love for him and his music, he took it as a criticism and/or very strangely - a threat. I don’t think he really took it as any kind of threat either - he was just exaggerating to add to his defensiveness. Again, what many people do when they know what someone is saying is true, but don’t want to admit it. He did a lot of that in that Ebony article - about several other things.

Prince hated people talking about his life, Susan talked about his life. It's pretty straight forward. Her insights are still valuable, just like everyone else he worked closely with.

That Ebony interview though:

There was one engineer who said that their sole purpose in life was to get the stuff out of the vault, and get it copied so it wasn’t lost to the world. I’m trying to figure out if that’s illegal. Should I fear for my safety that you might need some medical attention? You want to come up in my vault and you feel like that belongs to you and that’s your purpose? You better find something to do. That’s scary.

If I didn't know better i'd say Prince was a bit thick to think that's what she was trying to do. For a guy who was all about love and forgiveness this was some mean-spirited and wilful misreading of what she said. No wonder he wanted it taken down - it was, as they say, not a good look.

Yes, he knew exactly what Susan meant. He was mad that she was talking about the poor condition of his Vault and the lack of planning for his unreleased music.

He's not wrong. Would he have been happy if the only person listening to his music was him as well?

What was this in reference to again? Was it something to do with the Black Album? or Wally? I can't remember.

It was probably in connection with her story about the song Wally. I would think that would have infuriated him.
