Morris Day shows off his comedic chops in new Prince mockumentary

More behind the source link.

Morris Day serves as host for the upcoming episode of "Sherman's Showcase," a new series that primarily spoofs "Soul Train." But this installment, which premieres at 9 p.m. Wednesday on IFC, is all about the rise and fall of Charade, a multi-talented artist from Nebraska with an oversized ego and an obsession with making a black-and-white film that doesn't make any sense. He's clearly Prince.

Charade's biggest hit, "Vicki, is the Water Warm Enough," -- which borrows a line from Prince's "Computer Blue" -- sounds suspiciously like "Jungle Love."

Day is introduced as "Living Legend, Minnesotan" and proceeds to take over the proceedings with a mix of charm and cockiness that made him a scene stealer in 1984's "Purple Rain."

At one point, the episode veers away so Day can explain how he was originally cast as the lead in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," playing a wealthy family's troubled nephew who had to escape the mean streets of Minneapolis.

Quincy Jones and sportscaster Curt Menefee make cameos.

The Prince character is Charade and the Mardi Gras. The skits mimics the kid's problems in Purple Rain. Charade quits music and becomes a ski instructor for a decade.

"Vicky, is the water warm enough" is a take on "Cool".

Another skit is supposed to be an early version of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air called Day In Day Out with a young Morris Day (played by someone else). All the Fresh Prince characters are there. Aunt Viv even changes actresses a couple of times in the middle of the skit. haha References to ice cream castle, oak tree, cool, and Prince making bad black and white movies are included. Quincy and John Legend make a quick cameo.

Sharade makes a come back in a surprise halftime performance ("no one booked him") playing a "Purple rain"-esque version of "Take Me Out To The Ball Game", rain storm, lightning, and earthquake included.

Fun episode. Anyone watch it?

I like the way Morris's publicist is strategically placing his image to the forefront before his MEGA book release. That will have him on EVERY major talk show.

BTW: Morris was cast as the original Fresh Prince. But the pilot didn't make it. Will Smith was brought in by Quincy Jones to read for it and SLAYED IT!
