If you listen to the press conference when he announced it, you’d know his intention was to remarry on their anniversary and have a baptism for he and Mayte. To me, it sounded for more like he was trying to force her into joining the Jehovah’s Witness faith. Princevault.com: nitial recording dates are unknown, but engineer H.M. Buff has stated that the song was recorded in 1995 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Really?? Prince was miserable through most of the 90's. Many many songs about loneliness, heartbreak, and missing a past relationship. He became very thin, gaunt, and angry. Yep, he got married- and the timing of all of that was quite interesting too. However, he obviously wanted his child and was going to make that work. It truly was a tragedy for both of them, and I can't imagine the heartache. I think he loved Mayte, but I don't think he was "in love" with her. That is just my opinion- and I'm going by many of the songs he wrote throughout the 90's. Mayte herself has confirmed that during the whole of her time with him - even during the marriage - she was not permitted to intiate contact with him. She had to wait for him to contact her. THAT is a "soul mate"? Really?? She was young - WAY too young to be dropped into that environment (shame on her parents), and she was easily controlled by Prince. Prince was 33 and she was 17 when she started in his camp. Think about that. A grown, close to middle-aged man with a teenager.

Everybody has a right to write a book about their experience. And she certainly has the right to talk about her son. I remember an interview from a mother who has lost her son at the Sandy Hook massacre and she said: "If I wasn't allowed to talk about him, it would be like he'd die again." Mayte was not allowed to talk about her child, because Prince didn't want it. If he did not want to talk, fine, his decision, but he had no fucking right to tell his wife to act like everything is okay.

Djohnson, I don't care if anybody dislikes the book you know. To each their own. But what I can't stand is people trying to dictate what a person can talk about and what not, especially when it comes to their own children. This is the only thing that's pissing me off regarding Mayte, because people tend to forget that it was her child too and that she wanted to talk about him, but she did not to respect his wishes. She respected his wish and what did he do? he left her alone, grieving the death of their child.

I love Prince, he'll always be the best musician, in my opinion, but like I said before, that is the only thing that I really dislike about him, how he treated his women, not only Mayte, but all of them.

Right - my comment about the "8 vital years" was not implying that she was intimate with him at 16-17 yrs old. My point was that she was placed at PP at way too young an age to deal with all that was going on in that environment, and to handle any kind of relationship with Prince - working or otherwise. Also, not 100% sure I buy the 'I was 19 when I lost my virginity", as Prince was notorious for the "18 and Over" rule. I would imagine there were some things happening - even if she was "technically" still a virgin at 18.

I have no problem with Mayte telling her story, however, she was attempting to profit from her time with him prior to his death, and the video clips of her mocking him during the stint she did on Hollywood Ex's are far from flattering. I think we got "the real" Mayte after Prince divorced her. However, she was also still very young at that time - young people tend to make bad choices.

Right. We know there were many many issues when it came to Prince and his personal relationships. I cringe when thinking of that Oprah interview, however, it was a very tough situation all around, because Prince also had the Emancipation album to promote and sell, which he had been building up in the press for over a year. The appearances had already been scheduled. Financially, he was not in a great place either. He had to market that record. It was just a terrible tragedy and terrible timing all around.

I agree, she should not have been left alone so soon after the child's death, but Prince was not that guy who was going to stop doing the music and just lay in bed with her. I believe what Mayte stated was that he said, "I can't be here - I have to get out of here..." or something similar. Everyone grieves in different ways, and some run away from it. Seriously, we all know the time frame for her arrival at this point. Seriously, I agree 100%, and this began way back at 20-22 yrs old when he started a relationship with Susan Moonsie when she was 16 yrs old - hence "She's Just A Baby" and "Private Joy". There was something going on there. I happen to think that Prince was very insecure as a younger guy - completely understandable with his size and personality - and just because he became a celebrity rock star does not mean those insecurities disappear. In fact, it's probably worse, because he's now got models, actresses, etc going after him.

The younger girls no doubt gave him a feeling of emotional and physical control both in and out of the bedroom. Easier to manipulate for sure. They were inexperienced in every way. And I'm sure the whole vibe of Prince being the "first" was a huge turn-on for him. However, it wasn't always the younger girls - Kim Basinger was older, Susannah - yes, she was 19 when they met, but they were involved through her mid-20's. Vanity was older too. All the "girls" were put up in apartments when they moved to MN. They did not live at the Galpin house or at PP. Maybe they got units at that "stone circle" residence too .

I guess it's possible that she didn't have sex with Prince until Feb '93, but no way do I believe that there weren't other things going on prior to that time. Carmen was in the mix until some point on the 1992 D&P tour. Prince cancelled her opening show, because it was not good.
