John's partner, Yaritza, has posted the following: "One year ago, my husband John K. Blackwell Jr. passed away after being diagnosed with brain tumors since July 2016. It was a difficult year for us, because we, the people who loved him, suffered his pain of not being able to play his drums again, and the agony of his recovery, due to his illness... Thanks God in first place, the family, friends and you who are reading this post who contributed in any way, with a donation, with a prayer or a message of solidarity. God blessed John with an incredible talent, that was appreciated by all the artists who requested his services, and his ability of passing his knowledge to younger generations and adults, makes me proud to say that he really fulfilled his mission on earth. The love for his family and friends is shown in this video that I share today with you. Rest in Peace John K. Blackwell Jr. Thank you, God Bless you all.
