Ok....so, one has to listen to the entire interview for context of what she says, but dang, it just sounds wrong! Tyka is explaining her confusion at reactions to Prince....fans wanting to touch him, be in his presence, etc...because he is just her brother. I get that. But to say, "he was no Stevie Wonder or Michael Jackson", is going to be interpreted, memmed and sound bit to death! Even the interviewer said "he's pretty low on your list", jokingly of course, but do feel he was mildly shocked. I feel some interview coaching might help her to learn how to get her thoughts out to the public in a more succinct manner and less offensive way. A dreamy thought, yes; however, that will never, ever, ever happen. She is now the keeper of the flame. I have been wondering, when the siblings are gone, who will continue to promote Prince and his legacy. Looking down the line (President Nelson?) the options are few. Maybe she does need coaching. She and the others are suppose to be promoting Prince's legacy. I would not say that even if I really thought that. People wondered why he was so distant from his family and people are seeing why. When she says things like this people think she want his money but don't think he is so special. That is not right. You would never see Bruce Lee's daugther saying something like that about her father or brother.

Her interviews are as uncomfortable/infuriating to watch as the Kirk interview. I can't believe no one in their camps- especially a lawyer- didn't school them before engaging in any type media interview. [Edited 4/25/18 19:47pm]

Can Joel, Troy or someone with the estate please stop letting Tyka do interviews! She’s just not good at them at all. Paisley Park is in your heart

She's fine, just not as starstruck as everyone else is about her brother. Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end

Tyka is odd, to say the least, but to her, Prince was her big brother more than anything. . I'm sure Janet feels the same way about Michael -- he was a huge star, but her bigger brother who used to tease her, like big brother's do.

Tyka simply doesn't convey well to the media or public. After her interviews in the UK, I lost count of the number of people who approached me (knowing I was a massive Prince fan) to tell me how odd they thought she was. Many concluded from her statements that she was untrustworthy. Personally, I frequently detect a barely concealed resentment from her towards Prince and find her somewhat cryptic behaviour irritating. Eccentricity is really only acceptable if you have talent.

I think she has been more concerned with trying to please everyone than just saying the truth of how she feels and what her experience was. This gets confusing, which is why there is so much contradition.

Exactly. She was referring to their childhood days when she made the Stevie Wonder/Michael Jackson comment. They were heroes to Prince at that time too, and he was studying and learning their skills during his childhood. Interviews are extremely difficult, because so many either misconstrue what the subject has said, or have their own interpretation of their statements.

After reading the full report of the police investigative documents, it seems pretty likely that Tyka (as she stated in a prior interview) and the few people closest to him and surrounding him on the day that he passed, and also probably past collaborators/friends still connected to him, knew the situation. Seems they just waited too long to do a forced intervention, or probably delayed it because they knew that is not what he wanted. I'm sure they are continiuing to try to protect his privacy as much as possible, although that becomes increasingly difficult with a police invesitagtion.

My first sentence does suggest one listen to the interview for the context in which the comments were made, so, there's that. It does sound bad. Even the interviewer thinks so, hence the "he's pretty low on your list" comment. She does need coaching....she has now provided three differing stories of her reaction to news of Prince's death. However, no worries, she is going to explain/clarify things in her forthcoming book (I won't be purchasing).....minute 3:44 if it doesn't load there. I have no patience for all the spin and bs today....none of these family members, associates (past/present), etc., have been forthcoming re Prince's life or death and this type of behavior detracts from the legacy. If someone, anyone, would simply reveal the entire true story, speculative talk will diminish and the focus can return to the most important fact - how to ensure his music remains at the forefront so future generations can experience his genius. That is my opinion. "Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence......." ~ DESIDERATA ~ Max Ehrmann

Yes, I get it. But, Prince has always been fiercely private. Also, based on the police report it's the ongoing issues he had with medication is becoming more clear. He wanted to appear strong and infallible to the public, and I could be wrong, but I think they are trying to honor that even though he is no longer here.

I commented on here a few months ago that she seemed to have some resentment of Prince. Then I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. This most recent interview has just confirmed to me that I got it right the first time. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

. I agree with the majority of what you said, but in regards to her comments about Prince not being MJ. I think she was trying to say that to her, Prince was her brother, and to the fans, he was a huge star. Much the same as MJ was Janet's brother -- he was a huge star, but she was his baby sister. . I think Tyka is very odd, but I also think she has a hard time trying to explain herself. . I don't buy her story that she didn't know about Prince's addiction! She is a recovering drug-addict, so she knows!!

I could forgive her having difficulty explaining herself, but she is frequently playing games of "I-know-something-you-don't-know". For instance they ask what's her favourite Prince song. A simple question and a nice opportunity to draw people's attention to his music, but instead of doing that she speaks about some mysterious thing from when they were young that we of course can't know about. Perhaps if we buy her book then we will find out. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
