I've always felt Te Amo Corazon is about Mayte as well for the same reason. That's my favorite part of FLSMW along with the sound of the surf at the end.

When I first heard Tictacto I wondered if the lines: . 'If u ever get the chance 2 travel back 2 ancient dance . were a reference to Mayte and then they were printed in her book so maybe she or someone close to her thought the same.

I realize now how much they were on stage together. There is definitely an artistic connection. Very toned, beautiful, but so young. This is my normal life. These marital standards cannot be recreated with money.

This song was written by Savage Garden, after they heard an interview in which Prince was talking about Mayte. If I recall correctly, in the interview, Prince said that he believed he had dreamed Mayte into life and the lead singer of Savage Garden heard that and believed it was a beautiful testament to the love between Prince and Mayte and wrote this song because of that interview. Maybe it's intuition
But some things you just don't question Like in your eyes I see my future in an instant and there it goes I think I've found my best friend I know that it might sound more than a little crazy but I believe [chorus:] I knew I loved you before I met you I think I dreamed you into life I knew I loved you before I met you I have been waiting all my life There's just no rhyme or reason only this sense of completion and in your eyes I see the missing pieces I'm searching for I think I found my way home I know that it might sound more than a little crazy but I believe [repeat chorus] A thousand angels dance around you I am complete now that I found you [repeat chorus to fade]

This is so cool! Its is really nice to know that Prince's words can inspire another artist and read these lyrics its almost like an indirect love message from Prince to Mayte but through Savage Garden. I love learning about this.

I totally agree with you. It is really refreshing and I am loving it. Learned and saw so many images and clips of Matye and Prince and how deep their love was.

Icon (October 1998) “On Valentine’s Day 1996 The Artist married Mayte Garcia. She grew up around the world, a military brat family was stationed longest in Germany. At the age of five, she belly danced on the television show That’s Incredible. In her teens, Mayte became a prima ballerina with the Wiesbaden Ballet. According to various sources, at one of his concerts in Germany, The Artist caught sight of her and said to a friend: “That’s my wife.” She was 16 (he was 32). Now 24, and taller than her husband, Mayte has an angelic smile and a shapely dancer’s body, two overly friendly Yorkshire terriers, Mia and Mary, who scamper around Paisley at will, a hotpink BMW 750iL, a five-carat diamond ring, and a sweet, just slightly Spanish accented voice not unlike Jenifer Lopez’s. Described as an “iron fist in a velvet glove,” she choreographs for NPG Dance Company, in which dancers move to Prince’s music in ways based on classical, modern, and hip-hop styles. She also directed the video for her husband’s latest single, “The One” and plans to make others. (People who know the couple say her being a natural dancer is a large part of his attraction to her.) "Their marriage is the best thing that could ve happened to him,” says a former girlfriend. “That woman obviously is for him. All that has transpired in the last four years, in making him more human and willing to be open, is because of her.” Asked how he knew Mayte was the one, The Artist said: “God tells you who’s the one. If you don’t have a relationship with God you’re in trouble. That gives you something to put everything in line.” Then asked if he enjoyed being married he said, “I’m not afraid of the rain anymore, because my wife built me a garden. Now the lightning and thunder put energy in the vegetables and give me energy to talk to you.””

Jet (May 1997) “When he talks about his wife, Mayte, his eyes fill with tears of love and joy. These are tears of a happy man who has made a long journey around the world and has finally found what he was looking for. “When you are in love with someone, you can see God,” he believes. “God is love; real love is perfect.” The happy couple married on Valentine’s Day in 1996 in Minneapolis during a private ceremony (JET, March 4 1996). “I didn’t take any pictures at my wedding. Mayte said, ’I don’t want a lot of people; we need room in the church because a lot of angels are going to be there.’” He is thankful for his wife’s loving support. “Through her eyes I could see different things.””

Tower Tecords Magazine (February 2000)
“The only person closer to The Artist than Graham is Mayte, whose support he credits for the success of his spiritual search. Raised in Puerto Rico, she was only 16 when they met. The aspiring singer immediately made an impression by being unimpressed by his fame. “I knew who he was,” she remembers, “but it was more like, ŒWow, you’re great. Let’s go eat.”’ The pampered star loved it. “She looked at me for who I was,” he says, regarding her lovingly. Mayte beams. “If I was being a jerk, she’d say, ŒYou know, you’re really being a jerk.’ She was my friend for years before everything started going click, click, click. She mothered me.” [Edited 3/14/18 20:22pm]

Ex-girlfriend Devin Devasquez “To me, the saddest part of Prince’s story is that he died without having a loving relationship towards the end of his life. He died without experiencing the joy of fatherhood. There is no doubt by the time his Emancipation CD arrived in the mid ‘90s, Prince had found true love and happiness with his bride, Mayte. However, the tragedy of losing their child would be something that would eventually tear them apart. And he never got as close to another woman.”

Lots of nice pics shared, thanks! This one is probably my fave.
Even in his jimmy jams, Prince has got style in abundance.
I love that the doggie is snoozing on the bed with them too. I wonder if she snored (the dog, that is! ).

Yes, this was something much more innocent and healthy than what he had with Vanity, who I believe he cared for but was in a big obsession with (both of them), that was really painful. Of course this ended painfully too, and Prince was surely not without his traumas in life. That is why we relate to him so much. But also, we love and admire him because he did so well, regardless. Was he a perfect human being? No. Did he grow to giving, and loving people, without feeding his desires? Yes. [Edited 3/15/18 6:39am]

I agree.I was struck by the mention in the interview with Jet that his eyes filled with tears of joy when talking about Mayte. He spoke like he had never experienced feelings of that magnitude before. It certainly reflects in the lyrics and music that he was writing at the time.

i think that her youth and unworldliness, after so so long being in that place of sex machine worldliness was so so so cleansing and renewing for Prince. That he saw the world a new in her, like have a baby all things are again new. i think that the love was deep deep deep, but a bit idealistic. I think when tradegy struck she went to her most recent place (childhood) to cope and he already a seasoned adult when to an even more adult coping space. He couldn't retreive his ability to comfort the child in her and she wasn't seasoned enough in her new adult self to console him. This is most heart breaking thing because without these moments of fire we can't forge ourselves and i think if they could have found a way all things would have been different. They were in love and are a family and i guess i believe that maybe this whole thing forged them for something else to which we aren't privy.

He wanted to pretend it didn’t happen then he wanted to pretend that he was okay instead of admitting the loss and admitting the pain behind it. There’s an interview I read recently from back then where he says “there are rumors my child died.” It was loss on him that speaking about the things that pain you the most can be healing for you and other people going through the same tragedy.
