I wonder if Prince ever second-guessed or regretted he and Mayte's decision to remove life support from Amiir. . Perhaps the reason I think about this topic comes from being a special education teacher who currently works in preschool early intervention (aka preschool special education). Staff in the department in which I work conduct multidisciplinary evaluations of children for preschool EI services and, for those who are eligible for services, write the Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Although children with complex medical needs (e.g., feeding tubes, tracheostomies, wheelchairs) are a small percentage of the children whom our department serves, they do exist. . Due to my profession and my interest in Prince, I've read a number of research articles about children who, like Amiir, have Pfeiffer Syndrome type II by researching about "Pfeiffer Syndrome type II" or "Pfeiffer Syndrome type 2" in Google Scholar. Based on reading these articles, most of which are medical in nature, my understanding is that a tracheostomy (a surgery that surgery creates an alternative airway by inserting a breathing tube in the trachea) is necessary for children who have Pfeiffer Syndrom type 2 if they are going to have any chance of survival outside of a hospital. To paraphrase what Mayte wrote in chapter 9 of her book, every day of Amiir's life, additional medical concerns arose due to his Pfeiffer Syndrome type 2 diagnosis. When the doctors told she and that Amiir would need a tracheostomy, O(+>initially wanted the procedure while she did not, as she felt that Amiir was suffering too much. Eventually, they both came to the heart-wrenching decision that they had to "let him go". . I believe that none of us are in a position to judge Mayte and because only they and Amiir's doctors were privy to all of the factors/information regarding Amiir's medical concerns. Had Amiir been born in 1958, like his father, who knows if he would have even lived 6 days; in essence, the advanced nature of modern medicine forced Mayte and into making a decision about how to proceed with his life. Based on what Mayte wrote in her book, as well as interviews from 1996, music, and music videos from the Emancipation era (e.g., "Sex in the Summer", "Let's Have a Baby", "Betcha By Golly Wow" video), among other things, and Mayte loved Amiir unconditionally, beyond what words can describe, as almost all parents feel about their children. Therefore, I believe that their decision to discontinue life support was a decision that they made out of great for their son. However, I wonder if Prince ever regretted that decision to decline the tracheostomy/remove life support, especially since Amiir ended up being their only child (besides the baby that died via miscarriage). . I can only imagine how regretting or second-guessing a decision to remove life support from your child might eat up a person inside. And it would not surprise me at all if grief over Amiir's death played a role in Prince's death at age 57. Live 4 Love ~ Love is God, God is love, Girls and boys love God above

I wonder if this interview took place in English or German, or if the article was ever published in German as well. I am curious because Mayte was fluent in German since she spent the latter years of her childhood in Germany. Live 4 Love ~ Love is God, God is love, Girls and boys love God above

I think about that too. I also thought about if they had regrets of not being there by his side when they removed life support and then when he died. I don't understand why they wouldn't have been there. The little one had a lot of serious issues. Not only with needing a trach to help him breathe but didn't she say he had a colostomy. I also think they both may have had regrets of giving up so easily after losing Amiir and one failed pregnancy. I think their chances were probably good for having a healthy baby if they'd held it together and saw a specialist.

WALK IN SAND (2010)
After a long journey, the final mile Wish every walk together all the while After a mild labor, we both smile All of the battles that we lost, both of us in denial ‘Cause nothing’s better than to walk in sand Hand in hand with you Nothing’s better than to walk in sand Hand-in-hand with you Another sun is rising To bed with no delay The both of us go despising Not enough time to play Memories come and then they go Somewhere far away Why can’t we just get lost together And spend each and every day, doing it Nothing’s better than to walk in sand Hand-in-hand with you Nothing’s better than to walk in sand After a long journey, the final mile Wish every walk together all the while After a mild labor, we both smile All of the battles that we lost, both of us in denial ‘Cause nothing’s better than to walk in sand Hand in hand with you Nothing’s better than to walk in sand Hand-in-hand with you Another sun is rising To bed with no delay The both of us go despising Not enough time to play Memories come and then they go Somewhere far away Why can’t we just get lost together And spend each and every day, doing it Nothing’s better than to walk in sand Hand-in-hand with you Nothing’s better than to walk in sand

Who is the woman whom he is holding? (I don't think it's Mayte.) This photo is confusing to me, I'm not sure what the point of it is, other than possibly to play with new photo-editing technology. It's creative, but I just don't get it. (I was born in 1986, by the way.)

My understanding is that this photo is from the 7 video shoot, or something like that, so I'm thinking she's 18 or 19. It's definitely album -related.

So once I saw this post, I immediately go to Tidal and play "Walk in Sand". (I had 20Ten dowloaded.) I'm sure I've heard the song before, maybe only once or twice. Anyhow, I think the lyrics you posted are missing some lines, or there are two versions of the song. . "Walk In Sand" After a long journey, the final mile

I was just about to post the lyrics for this song. In this song, he repeats Te Amo, Te Amo.
"Teacher (teacher), healer (healer), feeler (feeler), sight 4 sore eyes
This led me to believe "Te Amo Corazon" has to be directed to her as well.

I'm thinking that he says "Te Amo" in FLSMW because Mayte's native language is Spanish. I suspect that "Te Amo Corazon" may be about Mani due to the timing of its release and some of the lyrics ("At 42,000 feet above the sea, dust of the earth and the knowledge tree"). I could be wrong, though. . What is unique about some of the songs he wrote for Mayte, is he makes it very clear that he wrote them for her. There are endless debates on the org about whom is the subject of songs like The Beautiful Ones and Adore. However, there is no debating about whom he wrote FLSMW, The Holy River, Let's Have a Baby, The One, The Morning Papers; they are all about Mayte. If he didn't make it clear in the song that she was the subject, it's somewhere in the liner notes, in an interview, in their wedding program, or in the music video. People can say what they want to say abou her. However, the deep love Prince had for Mayte cannot be denied. Live 4 Love ~ Love is God, God is love, Girls and boys love God above

Here are my thoughts on the issue. In spite of his penchant for pushing sexual boundaries and having relationships with many women, I think that there was a part of Prince deep down that was quite old school regarding his views about family. It seems that he was very intentional about waiting to marry before having children, perhaps because he felt that marriage should come before having children, which would make sense given his Christian upbringing. So my interpretation is that marriage and children went together for him; the woman who was his wife would also be the mother of his children. And only a woman whom he felt would be a good mother could be his wife. That woman was Mayte.

I always thought these were the things she meant to him. I remember he said in an interview, she mothered him. But it still doesn't explain why he used "mother/wife."

In Mayte's book, she reproduces a letter that wrote her. One of the lines he wrote in the letter was something like "If they're not your babies, I ain't havin' none!" (I will check on that tomorrow and edit this post. In the meantime, I need to go to bed because it is way past my bedtime.)
EDIT: Hopefully, this isn't copyright infringement, but wrote the following to Mayte in a letter, just before the release of her album Child of the Sun (as reproduced in The Most Beautiful, p. 179) "No one has ever or will ever get close 2 my soul the way u have. Other women want my babies. just find it funny! My future's all arranged. If they're not your babies, ain't havin' none! wouldn't want 'em. 'cuz they were never supposed 2 be here!" Another clue is that he sings about the tree of knowledge. When he was married to his first wife, he always talked about their relationship as Adam and Eve. Those points alone make it clear as day who the song is intended for. Then there’s the music video. It was filmed in Morocco, a place they visited often when they lived in Spain.
