Video: SHELBY J. talks about her 'brother / sister' bond with Prince, her mentor and friend

Check out "Dig If U Will The Picture ~ Shelby J".

"This intimate and beautiful interview with Prince's powerhouse backing singer, Shelby J, is brought to you by Black America Web journalist, Tonya Pendleton.

Enjoy the conversation as Shelby talks candidly about her 'brother / sister' bond with Prince, her mentor and friend. She shares details on her connection with the musical genius and even describes her regular disbelief at being on-stage with Prince as they sang love songs, hand in hand. A memorable interview you'll want to share and watch again. Trust us...!"

Thanks for sharing, Latin. Shelby says Prince was one of her closest friends and the most important man in her life after her father. Maybe this can put to rest the nonsense that Prince didn't have any close friends.

No, people unfortunately will just call her an opportunist. She doesn't help her case entirely when she releases an album on the anniversary of his death. That being said, I think she took the opportunities when he was alive and she is taking them now that he has passed. He probably wouldn't mind. She might just be trying to make the best out of a bad situation; she never seems to be undermining his importance to her life and career.. (some other artists seem to be doing that at times...)

.

The fact is that she stayed under his employment for 10 years and they did seem to like one another enough to keep collaborating even after minor arguments and disagreements. He didn't have to invite her to the BET Tribute..that seems like a bond to me.

Prince knew she was working on that album. She even played most of the songs for him in late 2015/early 2016. It was supposed to come out earlier but then she went through a divorce and that put things on hold (probably too why she wasn't working as much with Prince in 2015). Sure she could have picked a different time to release it but why does it matter? I think she knows a lot of early buyers will be Prince fans so releasing it while she was in Minnesota for the Celebration events is just good business. She has no major record label behind her, she's mostly self financing which can't be easy.
