I remember reading a thread, or maybe just a few posts, on the org fairly recently about Prince's performance at the 22nd Annual AMAs (Prince was honored this particular evening and performed BJB/Hate U/319).....there was some speculation about whether or not he was upset with Mayte that evening. Does anyone else remember these posts?

Anyhoo....to the point. She goes into detail about this performance and rehearsals (she mentions his surprise reveal and how the show censors were keeping an eye on them!) in Chapter 2 or 3. Not quite sure which. So, folks were speculating that he was saying something, at the end of the performance, to Mayte in a not so nice or angry way. Well, he wasn't. He said to her "Cool?". She said she agreed with him then stepped back so he could have his moment. He wasn't upset with her at all! That was nice to know and have cleared up. For me, anyway.

PennyPurple: she didn't say much else about the book, other than read some pages from Ch 2. When the reading and Q and A were over, she said she sincerely believes that dancing is the great healer. She invited us all to a dance party tonight; there'll be dancing and Prince music.

Missmusic: i also hope she finds healing. She certainly has been through the wringer. She seems like a positive person so that is half the battle right there.

Yes! I do remember this and there is a long thread on the org about this performance. I couldn't remember if this is the same performance she references in the book, is it? Are we up to this part in the discussion? Anyway, if it is indeed the same performance , i will also be relieved, because he looks pretty P.O'd in it.

Nope....just the one word. Some were thinking he was telling her "Go!" and that's why she immediately stepped back. He might have been upset because he had to lip sync...his past comments indicate he was NO fan of lip syncing. Only "live" music was "real" music. He mentions this in many interviews. Hmmmm....maybe it's in the book? The lip syncing displeasure that night, I mean.

Aw, that's a nice memory.

I've always thought she was pretty, but not in a fake Hollywood way. And she's aging well.

I'm glad it looks like she left her boobs alone. I think they're just the right size for her body.

smile

Where was the book signing?

She looks great. I also thought the same thing about her boobs, lol. She is tiny. She was wearing ballet flats and I couldn't help thinking that Prince was 2 inches shorter than her. I was looking at her feet and remembering her comments in the book eek This was in Miami.

Then damn! If she's tiny, then he was teeny-tiny. eek confused

Lol, thanks! I told Mayte my daughter is a dancer. She said, 'You should come to the dance party!' I told her I wish I could, but I have my daughter's birthday party tonight. Trust me, I actually tried to get my 12 y.o. daughter and her friends to go to a Prince dance party. I would've totally gone to this!!
On another note, I have mad respect for Mayte's dancing. The dance life is hard and involves endless hours of training. My daughter is a serious dancer and I call this my 2nd full time job.

He was not mad at mayte, he was mad because he was forced to lip sync that performance, which is why he was chewing gum.

I know the posts you're talking about, but don't remember which thread.

Folks were saying he was annoyed with her and telling her to "Go!" as in get off the stage, but that wasn't what was going on at all.

BTW, that's my favorite televised P reveal ever. He was so thin then, too.

finished listening to the audio book. great story, very interesting for a longtime fan like me.

i will likely buy the hard copy now, just because it's an an important piece of collectible for someone who wants a complete picture. i guess that makes me a Mayte fan too rose but, imo she is well worth 'famming' over; very strong and beautiful person.

i would never have survived what she has endured over the years and come out still smiling.

and if i'd written a book about my experience, i would have been more snarky, bitter and mean. but that's me and Mayte doesn't seem to have that in her.

total respect to her for not sinking to a trashy, tell-all level. this was beautifully done.

so ten out of ten, and kudos to Mayte for doing this. i know she is/will be taking a lot of heat from angry fans and the media, but it is her story from start to finish and she tells it very well.

kudos to her ghostwriter as well for doing such a bang-up job of capturing the essence of the story so succinctly. that would not have been an easy assignment....

XxAxX, To your point about Mayte not having bitterness and meanness, I recall Prince saying that something that drew him to Mayte was that he never saw her show any malice toward others. She touches upon this in her book at the end of chapter 6. She says that she does the same thing that Michelle Obama does; when others go low, she [Mayte] goes high, she takes the high road.

As I said the other day, this booked moved my soul in a wierd way. Maybe because I can relate to Mayte in some ways? I don't know. They had such a deep bond and love for each other. I truly believe Prince didn't let anyone else in the way he let Mayte in. Not many people experience this kind of love and I can understand why she waited for him and never really moved on. He was it...the one. While we will never know how he felt, I believe he carried her in his heart tucked away. I am glad she wrote this book and hope it helps her to heal her broken heart. She went through alot and the fact she can smile at the end of the day says alot about her.

A few people have mentioned that the tape is pretty emotional. I just might have to get that; although, I would then have the tape, the hard cover book and the Kindle version! Oh well, it does benefit her rescue and Gia so worth it, to me. I agree with your sentiments, CMSantos71. They started by developing a friendship, three years as friends, before it grew into love. I always think about this statement Prince made about Mayte from an interview (link: content://com.sec.android...2943.mhtml ) during the Emancipation era: When I met Mayte, I looked at my situation and wondered what I was running from. Am I lonely? Is that why I surround myself with so many friends? "I don't think I knew the answer until I got married and made the commitment: 'I will take care of you forever.' When she walked down the aisle, and I looked into the eyes of this woman-child, I could see our future and the eyes of our child. At moments like that, you are floating. There is no ego." Kind of says it all, doesn't it? He adored her and I believe if they would have had a child survive, they might still be together. She truly was "The One" for him. EDIT: Wanted to include this quote as well (also found in the linked article above). Prince speaks to her character and knew her heart: "She was my friend and my sister for years, the one person who never showed any malice toward anyone." [Edited 4/8/17 14:23pm]

Yup, I agree to all of this.

Also, the way she describes P during the entire saga about Amiir...P was no joke as a father.

Hearing her read the book was the best part to me.

I know! The part that got me was when she went to see and hold Amiir, Prince had left to go home and take a shower. When he came back he just sat on the floor, leaning against her leg while she held Amiir. I could see it in my mind's eye. Her description of it conveyed what a tender, loving moment in time it must have been for them.

I might be jumping ahead but how about the part where, when the name is decided, Prince puts his hands on her belly and says, "Amiir", then "Perfect". Tearing at my heartstrings. I just can't....

Can we keep him distracted with my 11-year-old guy and the 12-year-olds from the birthday party? With that many kids to watch, maybe the spouses won't even notice we're gone.

Happy Birthday to your daughter! I was that dance mom when my 2 daughters took ballet for over 10 years when they were young. Now it's my 2 granddaughters' turn in ballet and gymnastics. Good times.

If I weren't clumsy I'd have y'all swing by JFK (NY) to pick me up, we could all sleepover at my daughters in West Palm Beach after the party! lol

(I just imagine that convesation since my adults always remind me that every conversation and "all roads DON'T lead to Prince, Mom!") confused

Oh, but they're wrong! Maybe we can knock some sense into both our families. Can you talk to mine?

And I'm sure you're not clumsy. You are coordinated in every way. You even color coordinated and color coded your kids. LOVED that!

Maybe you could color code us.

Nah...never mind. You don't want to listen to all that whining over who's gonna be purple.
