Lovejunky, my mistake. I blame my mistake on my very cloudy brain yesterday due to the bad cold I have. It was bad enough I had 2 stay home from work. But thank U for sharing the review (the purple text).

I think you misread my post...

I didnt write the Purple words...they are copied from the AMAZON book review...

and No..

Ive never been critical of Mayte...the only comment I made about her was in reference to something she was quoted as saying.

If you go to the Amazon Book page, you will find ALL posative comments written by people who have purchased and read the book...

Love Junky, THANK YOU for your honesty.

I wish I could cut and paste something that I wrote on part 2 of the official thread about The Most Beautiful. I recall you being critical of Mayte on the official book thread part 2, but you kept your criticism civil and didn't throw Mayte under the bus and assassinate her character as some others did. Since that thread has been removed, I will repeat something that I wrote as best I can.

There were some individuals who were attacking Mayte because they felt that she was going to tarnish Prince's legacy with this book. I made this point: Because a big part of Mayte's life and identity is tied to Prince and a lot of her supporters are Prince fans, it would not be in Mayte's interest to tarnish Prince's legacy. Why would she want to say things in the book that would cause her to become alienated from friends of Prince as well as his family and estate? I recall predicting that while she would be critical at times, what she wrote would not tarnish his legacy.

I totally agree that she humanizes him in the book. Her description of him as a father, on p. 209, is absolutely touching, and it is something that only she could share.

I have 2 general observations.

(1) I have come across a couple of dates that are incorrect. One of them is the date of artwork that prince made for her that she describes as being for their 1st anniversary, but the date would have been for their second anniversary.

(2) Mayte wants to set the record straight on some things that happened while she and prince were married.

I will be more specific as the discussion of the book progresses.

Yes, thank you for pointing that out.

Actually their 1st anniiversary date is correct on the artwork BUT the spelling of ANNIVERSORY is incorrect , unless that was his special spelling

So far I'm good.

Been listening on and off all night (the great part of having worked nights 34 years before I retired is being able to easily stay up all night) between cleaning and organizing and taking breaks to listen to P music and try to digest what Mayte's reading.

I'm only up to P having a cold in Switzerland so I'm not too far in yet.

I'm a voracious reader, but in this case listening to her read with vocal inflection is making it easier for me to deal than if I were simply reading the words on a page with no emotion from her. Might sound stupid, but it's making a difference to me. It's almost like she's talking directly to me, conversationally.

confused

I'm at that point in the book as well.

Yes it is wonderful to hear her read it ...lots of emotion

Also makes note that it is expected to arrive the 10th or 11th; however, my previous book orders have arrived within a couple of days of shipping. So, I am going to give it until the 7th before I look at other options.

Hopefully I'll be getting mine before the 10th. mad

Hey Penny, If your book has shipped, you can always refuse the delivery and the $ will go back to your account (not sure how that would work, being you used a gift card), you just have to stay on top of it.

Maybe a timeline would be a good thing to work on as the group reads. I can relate, Michelle206. There were a bunch of times when I found myself wanting one as I was reading. And I agree with your observation of where anger tends to be directed. I know we shouldn't talk specifics yet.

I also agree with this from AnnaStesia91 (not in any way to imply that you don't agree, Michelle206): "I think some people will use the fuzziness of dates to try and discredit what she's saying but when I look back on my own life I can't remember everything that happened in chronological order or to a T. Some of it is fuzzy. But this is HER story about her life and how he fit into it and not the other way around so looking at something from a strictly Prince perspective isn't really helpful."

I'm in. I got the book yesterday and read the intro while sipping iced coffee at Dunkin Donuts and had to leave because I was in tears. I have a feeling this book is going to be deep (in ways I'm not sure Mayte even realized) and will allow us to continue our journey of knowing the man and that part of his life.

Here for it.

Thanks so much for the ibook tip, I have a day off today and the idea of waiting till tomorrow was making me crazy. I'm about three quarters way through, will not stop till it's finished. My god. It's devastating. Beautiful, heartbreaking, insightful...and really fricking honest without being overly salacious - and he was no saint, so it doesn't bother me that she doesn't sugarcoat some stuff, but I think he comes out of it well...I think you get a really strong sense of how so much that we love about him as an artist really was just him. I know its ghostwritten, but her voice also comes through very powerfully, and I think it's really clear why he loved her, and how much she loved him. Anyway, so glad we get to process it together. I think it will really help. When are we thinking of starting?

Good Morning everyone. I received my book yesterday while I was at work but it wasnt until I got home that I was able to start reading it. I stayed up late reading it and got up early this morning to continue reading. I am at chaper 8 and so far I love the book. There is something about the way it is written that has stirred my soul...it's hard to explain this feeling. Anyhow, I look forward to discussing it with all of you. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Lots of emotion, but not over the top where it has me looking side-eye as I listen...and trust me, I went into reading this pretty much where nisibee was in the Amazon review.

I dunno why I'm so protective of this lil purple dude I've never met, but I am and although I'm enjoying it so far, I find myself instinctively constantly sniffing the air for any shenanigans that will tarnish P in any way.

And before anyone feels the needs to imply that I have him on a pedastal, yes, I do in many ways...but I also acknowledge and embrace his flaws, including the urge I've posted about many times to "bop him upside the back of his big ol' head" when I feel like he'd effed up.

lol

So far I've found lotsa stuff that resonates.

Hi everyone, Don’t forget what Penny mentioned at the beginning---- we’re going to discuss the book chapter by chapter.

.

If we try to go ahead and tackle the entire book at once the thread will be chaos with conversations going in all different directions and no one will be able to follow.

.

Please wait with highlights and outlines, everyone here is reading it so they know the sequence of events.

.

Let’s wait for Penny to tell us when to start and let her lead the conversation. She will lead us not in a censure type of way but in an orderly way so we all can at least try to stay on the same topic at the same time to get the most of sharing our observations.

~~ Peace,

DD55

Yes you can. Opinions welcome.

I was probably hasty in my response to you Strawberrylova123 and for that, I do apologize. In my defense, when you advised that you had more negative than positive thoughts, I immediately thought of the "negative" comments of the other thread....*shudders*

But, luv4u is correct so, I look forward to your thoughts.

EDIT: Wanted to add that I could not wait for my hard cover to arrive so ordered the Kindle yesterday. Beautifully, lovingly, respectfully told. Yes, tears go here.....

It's good to hear you, jayseajay. I never got to thank you for reminding me (on another thread) about the hallway speech. I'm noting that in particular because I should have gotten back to that thread, but didn't. Those day-to-day life demands sure do get in the way. : ) I really appreciate your insights on many topics here.

Speaking of life's demands, I'm glad to hear you have a day off, and I hope you are able to dig into that last quarter of the book.

I don't think I'd be as invested if I were just reading words on a page.

Especially the part I'm up to right now, Japan and what follows, I needed to hear this part from her own mouth in her own voice.
