I just listened to this whole interview!

I'll keep it short and simply say I love her view on the Vault (release it all as it is) !!

I hope she is one of the people we get to see at the 2017 Cele!!

I wish these type of links would not get removed from the main forum. I almost missed the interview myself and no doubt hundreds, if not thousands, of people visiting the site are going to miss it when it got moved here.

Most of the interview is ABOUT PRINCE. Susan Rogers is neither an "associated artist", she was Prince's recording engineer.

With the same "logic" the mods should have moved the link to the GQ article that has various people Prince worked with telling short stories about him to this forum. What's the difference, really?

Interested to learn that Moonbeam Levels was on configurations of Purple Rain and ATWIAD.

I don't put so much credit into her recollections since she claimed that the 1986 album was titled Under The Cherry Moon and that Play In the Sunshine had been sequenced to be a mere transition between SOTT and Housequake (when it was originally set between Rebirth and Housequake). I'm gonna listen to it with intererest, though

Although she has a job in academia, she should be the person in charge of the vault and its contents. She admits she did not know him in his later years, but it appears most of the vault came from the 80s into the 90s. Very informative. Great piece.

Just 2 days after her brother died, she doesn't even have enough time to grieve and to make arrangements for cremation and funeral before Questlove compounds her grief by selfishly criticizing Tyka for not inviting him to the memorial. I always got the impression Prince kept Questlove at a distance and for good reason-because his narcissism comes off like a male groupie.

Really curious about her recollection of Prince's view on albums. 4-6 strong songs and the rest designed to compliment them. I wonder if that's her view or something Prince said back then.

The xample she used to xemplify this some months ago was historically erronous, so I'm somewhat skeptical. + it doesn't very much sound like Prince to consider any song as a filler.

In my Opinion.....this is from far away....the most competent GIRL to work on Prince's Legacy in the Vault (for the 80's)....i hope that WB will do something with HER!?

Well for one thing I believe she's a WOMAN not a GIRL, and how about simply the most competent PERSON? But yes of course she's someone that should be consulted for the years she was part of the journey (which doesn't cover the full 80's but a good part of them).

It's interesting she describes his drum playing as "terrible" and suggests his timing wasn't good.

This is interesting because Prince is revered as being a multi-instrumentalist, however, he wasn't classically trained. He certianly wasn't a disciplined musician. This is where Wendy And Lisa completed his missing parts.

I couldn't give a fig who he took bike rides/ate pancakes/played ping pong with - I mean whatever. His creativity is the most important part and any insight that can possibly be gained should be documented. Go back to every single person who was in his band - toured with - was in a studio with etc and capture their memories NOW. Or they will be gone before you know it.

In fairness she doesn't say "filler" per se.

Take Diamonds & Pearls for example. That album is 4 songs, D&P, Cream, Gett Off, Money Don't matter. Then you have Thunder & Live4Love which compliment each other. Willing & Able, Walk + Strolin'. Then Daddy Pop, Push & Jughead.

Gotta say the Jam & Lewis interview was great but tough to watch. Why did nobody interview Prince with instruments at hand... damn.
