I didnt hear Jill disparage Wendy or Lisa in this podcast. What are you talking about?

She was calling Wendy and Lisa Chinese mothers in the corner because they were nurture but pushy but Jill's character in the movie was the one who truly loved him but Prince ignored her (just like real life unequired love). They were talking about Purple Rain. Its around 48:00. So I guess she is having some competition saying she was the love who actually loved Prince lol and Prince should had pay attention to her. She gave props to Vanity constantly and also to Morris.

So yeah that is some shade but its my opinion.

I heard that and was like.. Huh? Lol. Jill did say there was a lot of jealousy going on back then. It's only my opinon when I say maybe it's a jealousy thing. About what, I'm not sure. She said something also about them not being real with P. Not those exact words but it's strange that Miko said something similar--on why he left.

i appreciate jill's candor but she contradicts herself sometimes. if she ever found the time to write a memoir i would surely read it. i'd love to know who her first hubby was. her daughter looks like cheyenne brando to me,so i was thinking he might be polynesian.

Well, they WERE tigermoms. I now know what you were speaking of as I didnt think what she explained was shade. Plus she was explaining the movie, which admittedly, did have some truth to it, as she explained. But I can see why and its great to see someone explain it because throughout purple history, it was Wendy n Lisa who got the shine for having the ony close relationship with Prince. And that just isn't true.

.

[Edited 10/24/16 19:07pm]

I don't think people went to that conclusion 'having the only close relationship' always concluded Sheila E as well over the years those 3 from the 80s onward and I think he did have some connection with Vanity, but in the 80s he did have a lot of close relationships. I will include Susan Rogers & Cat (Jill) too out of the musical camp.
But when it came to musical chemistry most people in the camp did say so, about Prince Lisa & Wendy
Prince went on to dedicate a song 2 them in 1997 on Emancipation highlighting the same

he also continued connection and friendship throught his lifetime.

.

Gayle Chapman coming in the earlies group, did not have a defined spot before Prince's musical Utopia began to form
But all the ladies (and gentleman) had a connection of different degrees
the proteges in particular had a very pecular spot that helped make that period great

.

Gayle Chapman Lisa Coleman Sheila E Jill Jones Wendy Melvoin Susannah Melvoin

I would love to know what was Suzie Davis(Sheila E band) Novi Novog and Suzi Katayama's musical story with Prince was like too

My words aren't exactly quote on quote but it was something like this... He said that they were putting on a show for Prince. Those people were not being real and he saw that and I guess he didn't want to be around that because I'm guessing he thought he was the only one in the group during that time always real with P. I will look for the interview link and post the link so you will know his exact words.

Wow, that was a great interview. I don't think any other former Prince associate/friend would be more down to earth about Prince. I like how she mentioned how the makeup of the Revolution was basically to attract a wider, audience, as well as for the movie Purple Rain. Many fans have said before that the actors that played an interracial couple as his parents in the movie, was based on bringing in/attracting a mixed audience as well, although Prince's real life parents were African-American. I also like that she cleared up rumors about his relationship with his parents, and that he had a good one with them during his success, when they were alive. It beats all the false information many fans who were never personal friends with him, have tried to pull off some info of him as facts. She knew him personally so I trust her words. Also, glad she clarified the 'plantation mistress' comment. Very good interview. I appreciate what she shared about her experience/friendship with Prince.

Thanks
I bet that was a strange time for Miko Dr Fink Alan Leeds & Jill, the vibe was so different by then

M: I don't know. I think it was a Prince thing. You know growing -- just to get new ideas. 'Cause when they left all the things started changing. The music changed 'cause he got new influences and since I was the only one who was still there besides Fink, all the way up to the Nude Tour there were different people coming and going.

M: No I left on my own not because of him and I don't know if I feel good when I now say that it was because of the other band members. It was like: Prince -- The Band -- and Me. Me and him was cool but me with the band? Because I'm Miko one hundred per cent, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week always, never changing. But they -- when Prince came into the room it was like 'Okay -- lights, camera, action', a whole new personality came out and they weren't true to themselves. That's basically why I left.

Great interview. Jill seems cool but man, she really seems to have it in for the Wendy & Lisa side of things. She explains why though, I think it's fair enough. It's a pity everyone can't get along because I love both sides of the Prince thing but so be it. The Jill Jones album is probably my favourite ever Prince side project album.

Jill said it was a lot of jealousy back then. Maybe she was jealous and tried to justify her dislike towards Wendy and Lisa by bringing up other excuses? I'm not saying these other excuses aren't of merit but I won't kid myself either. Jill probably wanted Prince to give more of his time and attention to her (just an assumption). Jill's jealousy in PRain even looked very real. She was being straight forward with her answers to the interviewer but I don't think she was telling ALL of the story. There's always more than one side to a story. Prince did stay with Wendy and Lisa for a while, didn't he? I doubt Jill was over the chillin' with them. I mean, it's the cute-sweet-fluttering his eyelashes-let's all love one another-with some spiritual union Prince. I swear I wouldn't have been surprised if I read somewhere that he slept with Lisa ans Wendy together. Lol. He was known for spoiling these people. I can see ALL of them fighting for the purple one's attention. I see more jealousy from her than anything else. Jill's ok with me, though. LOL. Crazy that a lot of them went off later talking against Prince.

I don't think Jill is or was ever jealous of Lisa and Wendy. She specifically stated that Prince laid most tracks himself and that she and the rest of the harem at that time did not fawn over him. She sounded as if W/L took to being motherly in a way and fawning over him telling him how cute he was etc. and Jill emphasized Prince was the genius and any of them including herself could have been replaced because Prince was the genius not her innot W/L. That is truth and not saying anything disparaging.

I agree, I think she was stating that Prince was the mastermind behind his music and could have used any band. I'm reading 'Possessed The Rise and Fall Of Prince' and the book pretty much states that Prince's so called "fall" happened due to Wendy and Lisa's disbandment as they were such an important duo in his musical and personal life. It's a very frustrating book to read for a Prince fan if u are not inclined to believe that Wendy and Lisa played such a huge part in his success. The fact is, Prince was a genius on his own merits and WL did add to his music in their own way but not to the extent some would have you believe. I've always liked and respected WL but its hard not to feel a little resentful when people make It seem like Prince wouldn't have made it without them. It makes me realize why he fought collaborating his music with other musicians for so long.

@ least with Lisa the idea around 79/80 when she first joined the band and he wrote Lisa, is where some of the rumor comes from

I could easily see P L W doing a threesome, but it also probably was a very fraternal relationship

could have used any band.

I've been a part of a past discussion surrounding that before, and I don't believe it. Because people are individuals and we all bring something different unique good or bad. It is like saying if Tony M was in the 1983 band that Purple Rain would have been what it was no matter what. And it's not possible. We all bring something different and unique.

Like I totally believe, if Graffit Bridge had the Lovesexy band, it would have been a much better movie

Prince was the mastermind behind the UTCM movie and he removed the director and took control and look what happened. If he left the person who had the strengths and skill of directing, it would have been a much better movie.

Prince wrote In This Bed I Scream in 1997(Emancipation) dedicated to Lisa Wendy & Susannah for a reason.

In a 1998 interview, 0+> called the people in his camp of 1982-1986 a Community. And the musical output released and unreleased shows that.

We cannot say that anyone could have been in Jill Jones spot on the 1999 tour or the Automatic video and it still be exactly what it was.
Morris Day left the Time and was done after the PR movie because without Jimmy Jam Terry Lewis & Monte Moir there it was not the same anymore. St Paul and the other 2 guys could not just move in a replace what the 07 had together.
People who say they are fans to this day believe Prince did everything on the Time albums. And that is very far from the truth, even if we just note that Morris Day played drums on a lot of the songs. But there was much more input in the creative process than that. Morris Day Lisa Coleman Dez Dickerson & Jesse Johnson have talked about
Vanity left Vanity 6 and Apollonia filled the spot. I love Apollonia for her role in PR, but she could not own that frontman position the way Vanity did.

In a very human way it just doesn't work like. We are all unique and we are not robots.

lisa has said in a couple of places that prince just used her name. she was living with him and she would help him record here and there. she described it as him saying "hey lisa come here and punch this in for me" stuff like that. she said that's why she ended up on some of the time tracks uncredited.

i agree with you. if the case had been that he never had success, never wrote a good song never had a hit before they joined the band then the emphasis on P,L,W and the great PR success would make sense to me. as a longtime fan i always ever thought of the revolution as a phase. i think history proves me right since he went on to have several other phases after them, each of them unique and of their own time. listening to jill, it sounds like she is trying to make that point. the revolution was 1 phase of many. on the personal side, prince was jill's first love. and she was in the main rotation for at least 2 yrs before susannah came, so there probably was some weirdness, which is understandable. to me, jill sounds fed up with hearing people rave on about the revolution as if PR is the only thing he did and they were his only band.

eek that's news to me. i was going by what she said. maybe she was being coy.

I don't think Jill is or was ever jealous of Lisa and Wendy. She specifically stated that Prince laid most tracks himself and that she and the rest of the harem at that time did not fawn over him. She sounded as if W/L took to being motherly in a way and fawning over him telling him how cute he was etc. and Jill emphasized Prince was the genius and any of them including herself could have brented replaced because Prince was the genius not here not W/L.

I agree the info you are stating rubs me wrong because it attempts to discount the genius Prince was and gives it to W/L
Purple Rain would have happened no matter who played the parts of Apples, Wendy, Lisa etc. Prince is the force needed and I get sick of the shade. Prince made great music way before Lisa Coleman showed up or Wendy and he made great art and music after they were gone. Prince is an Icon for the force he was and HE did not fall or fail because of anybody who left or stayed.
He was not perfect but no none not ONE person need take credit.

I neither said she was jealous nor that she disparaged them.
