Dr Funkenberry responds to Sheila E's dream "share"

Sheila E shared a beautiful "dream" that she had of Prince which brought a smile to my face and was somehow very comforting. You can see it here.

https://www.facebook.com/...86187456:0

Dr. Funkenberry responded on Twitter with this

I wonder if her dream last night was of him sending her a c&d letter for those t-shirts with his symbol.

Seriously, P had many associates throughout his lifetime and Sheila was there for many, many years. Dr. Funkenberry, by his account, was a friend in P's later years. Many of his associates are making money from their association with P in lots of different ways. I believe Sheila and the t- shirts was sharing with the fams, as was her tribute on the BET, her "giving" Boy Meets Girl" free to the fams and her upcoming celebration of Prince's philanthropy with proceeds going to a cause. She is an artist in her own right but right now, she is giving fams what they want with her concerts, tv appearances, etc. She always draws a line in just how much she shares about P's personal life. And in her share of her dream, she asks for prayers for his family - who else have you seen do that?

Dr. Funkenberry shares DAILY about Prince. His podcasts are about Prince. Almost everything about him is about Prince.

Hypocricy at it's worse! No wonder Sheila E seems to have distanced herself from many of the "others".

Thoughts?

I won't buy any memorabilia until the family and estate produces official memorabilia. So there's that.
Funkenbery irritates me sometimes. He can be negative and he does often project an image of being more important or closer to Prince than he was. Anyway, he's made much of his entire living by talking about Prince. What's the difference?

But his outspokenness works sometimes too.

Sheila's dream was nice. Funkenberry shouldn't have cut in down.

This guy needs to knock it off. I don't care for shirts but be real she is not going to become a millionaire selling shirts at her shows and website.

She had a long intimate relationship with him and people need to stop discounting that. Even after they stopped seeing each other they remained friends which makes her next to Andre Cymone one of his oldest associates. I take what she has to say seriously

There you go. Apparently taken down from her site, but what's wrong with that? That's her tat on her arm, I'm taking it that she designed it. If the family approves this at some point, I'd buy it - very tastefully done - and I'm not a t-shirt/memorabilia type person!

With all the love talk from Prince songs and such, I think it is a big shock to see how nasty Prince fans or followers can be. I mean a bunch of grown ass people 'throwing shade' and chiming in on every little word someone says about Prince or an associate artist

Dr Funkenberry, why would he care.
She might not have done it if he was alive, but it was also a response to his death.
Do they want her to stop performing the songs too

People are disgusting with this stuff

He's a gossip monger. Unprofessional. I never understood why P used him in the first place.

I'm not one to engage in throwing shade much but this one really ticked me off! For sure she was relevant and the friendship, love and respect they had for one another was very evident when they performed together. You can't fake that electric energy they threw off. He, on the other hand, just showed me HE is irrelevant.

Any time a male is so needy and desperate to be relevant that he will stoop to acting like a catty female it's pathetic and he doesn't deserve any support.

If the behaviour of the various sister wives is so deplorable, why is he trying to be one of them? lol

Agree, just sad to see how many people can be so mean!
This may be helping Shelia grieve...knowing how sad I feel over his loss, I feel so bad for all that knew him personally what a huge loss they must be feeling sad
She is not hurting Princes legacy just keeping it going.

Dr. Funkenberry really bugs me. I wonder how tight he really was with P over the years. On one of his recent podcasts defending Mayte's book he kept saying over and over again in a whiny voice "he's not here anymore". Yes we know, we get it. Dr. Funkenberry also about PP tours and insinuated that the estate & Graceland aren't doing things according to what P wanted. How does he know this? Does he know exactly what P wanted? Has someone from the family or on the inside been leaking stuff to him that would lead him to make this assertion? If so how do we know this person(s) is telling the truth and doesn't have an agenda? There's just something about him that bothers me. And his podcasts come across as very gossipy. Don't like at all.

yes, and as soon as people(the world) begins to forget Prince or the surge of grief subsides, and people stop talking about Prince, he'll only hope Sheila E and other continue to keep the man and the times and purple culture alive.

Well, the whole c&d thing is probably because Londell has tweeted numerous times insinuating legal action would taken against those who use P's image, etc.

He tends to insinuate that he will bravely "step in" as needed to course-correct estate issues, as if he would even have that authority. And why would someone with such inner connections waste his time getting involved in childish shade wars on social media anyway? Who really cares what T-shirts Sheila sells? Or the various bickerings among P's women? All that stuff seems sort of beneath someone who claims to have only P's ultimate interest at heart.

so if we found out that before 1984 that the combined MF symbol was used, can there really be legal action?

Funkenberry is no different than any fan on the Org. Why? Because he's pissing on Sheila selling t-shirts (which - c'mon, she's not buying a Bentley with that money).

Fans pissed on every tribute, every item on the fence, the way Londell said this, or Bremer did that, what Tyka was wearing, this should happen, that should be, do this, do that. Everyone has their own best idea for Prince's leftovers, whether it's a symbol on a shirt, a box set of everything Prince ever brushed past on his way to the latrine, a 57-piece BluRay set, or whatever.

And they're all wrong. Funkenberry is entitled to his opinion. We are, too. He had a personal relationship with Prince. Most us here never even met him, much less sat and developed a trust and friendship with him. Point being, everyone is going to have their own take on things.

I don't have an issue with Sheila selling her little t-shirts with a butterfly on them. (She's actually used the butterfly motif for many, many years, since she's had a website.) She feels she can represent Prince's legacy in some way. You and I do that by playing his music, and staying true to what we know him for. I don't agree with everything Funkenberry says, but it's his gig. We can't judge that. He might come across as a bit harsh, but - that's for him to work out. He ain't making cash on that podcast to support himself, so he's already one ahead of Sheila in the hustlin' department.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I agree -- everyone is entitled to their opinion and god knows, everyone seems to have one and to share it. I guess with Dr. Funkenberry, it's sligthly irksome to me that he claims to basically know what Prince would think and do about all these things. It's not clear to me that anyone really knew exactly what P's wishes were (no will and all that), plus there's the blunt reality that P is now gone, and decisions now fall to the living, and that's how it goes.

One thing about funkenberry though...I will say that we do need people who are protective of Prince's legacy, estate, etc.
He does have some public exposure and what he says does count, more than what little old me might say.
So I guess everybody in this thing has a role, a thing they're good at. Even if there are things about folks that irk each other.

We have that Rolling Stone article with quotes from Graceland folks saying there are all these emails from Prince with detailed instructions. I don't know who he sent them to but according to the people now overseeing PP they exist. So when Funkenberry says things aren't being done according to Prince's wishes he's basically calling these people liars, or suggesting they're ignoring the instructions Prince left. I'd love to know what his source is for that and how credible it is. It's one thing to say Prince was working on stuff but it wasn't ready. That's completely different than suggesting Graceland is not following his wishes.

There is definitely a lot of orgers that are haters of Prince's family and the women in his life.

It's very sad that so many "fams/fans" of Prince constantly express that type of venom on here.

It's horrible that they do that.
