who rang for this clown? insinuating that people want his help and input into PP matters. i have no use for McM or Koppelman but at least they were/are court appointed. this guy....SMH! he can go have a seat with all the thristy hens and exmanager's managers imo.

In his mind he's taken on the roll as the only defender of Prince's legacy. The beginning of his podcasts are just throwing tea and shade everywhere and reminding people umpteen times in a whiny voice that Prince is not here anymore and he's just looking out for the fans (while everyone else is pissing on them) and Prince's legacy. rolleyes

yeahthat just listed to his latest podcast and really enjoyed the interview with the engineer. Lots of interesting stories and insight from him. Less enjoyable was Dr F starting the podcast with his typical faux-world-weary things, sounding like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders as Prince's "only defender" as well as the "only person" speaking out for the fans.

-

And his insistence that he's merely following P's wishes by spending time writing childish posts about someone selling symbol T-shirts or whatever: yes, P could get a little silly about enforcing ownership of stuff. Doesn't mean someone else needs to continue that particular silliness after his death, when there are far more pressing issues to address.

Has funkypants said anything about her Glamorous Life cruise in February? She's promoting it like crazy, and has photoshopped a picture of the ship as purple. It's all about Prince etc etc. Is he pissing on that, too?

Yep yep yep. Someone called him out on Twitter telling him to quit creating drama he can feed off of, escalate and then claim it's all done to "protect" Prince and the fans. The other day he tweeted something snarky about the new 'Purple Rain Room' at PP. But this morning the person running the museum (who hasn't slept in days and was almost in tears) said all the themed rooms were based off of emails, texts and other notes left by Prince. I wish Funkenberry would stop claiming he knows what Prince would want when clearly he doesn't have all the information the Estate and Graceland do.

He keeps saying he'll get involved once the "right people" are involved. According to Graceland Kirk Johnson and Trevor Guy were very much involved. And Prince's hairdresser Kim Berry also said she's been involved. Are these not some of the "right people" according to Funkenberry?

I'm pretty much over ALL the various Prince associates (or self-proclaimed associates) who issue cryptic public comments (usually via social media) that are some variaion on "we don't know the truth" or "the right people aren't involved" or "prince new what the real deal was..." or whatever else.

-

If these people have some factual info that they feel would be helpful in some way to make public, then state it clearly and completely in plain english. Otherwise, address it privately or keep your mouth shut. This vague cryptic social-media crap does nothing but manufacture drama in an attempt to keep their name out there in Prince-circles as an "important player."

SheilaE4Ever

Obviously based on my prince.org name I am a huge fan of Sheila E. It's disappointing to see so many people become so negative towards her since Prince's death and feel they know the appropriate way for her to grieve.

Regardless of the later years of their friendship, you cannot discount how close they were. They were musical soulmates. It was not until Sheila's tribute on the BET Awards was I able to accept Prince's death. That was as close to a Prince performance that you could possibly get and she honored his life like no one else has. I enjoyed what I watched of the Revolution reunion, it was very nostalgic but the energy Sheila gives in nearly every performance is Prince.

Sheila E is my girl! Nothing like a woman owning that percussion like she does. I pay dr funkenwhatever no mind because he can't get pissed at her and then turn around and praise tee shirts that his friend is selling on instagram. I didn't like that.

His biggest problem for me is how desperate he's always come across for attention/credit/what have you. I can recall numerous posts here on the Org from him where he was angry he didn't get the credit for 'being the first' to divulge some info, or complaining that this or that was his idea and someone else mentioned said idea but didn't give him the all important reference or credit for it, etc. (the most recent example of that is how he has been making sure everyone knows HE coined the term/s "purple army" and "prince army").

-

As for giving him credit, I have to give him credit for persevering in his quest to get Prince's attention enough to actually be connected directly to him; I remember when he ran the LA Bumpsquad fan group for awhile and also his short-lived Prince themed 'nightclub' years ago called Club Lovesexy (announcment posts for that are still here on the Org). He kept at it and it finally panned out with the Dr Funkenberry gig, so i suppose he did achieve his ultimate goal. i'm still conflicted about the guy though - he's definitely a climber, I disagree with much of what he says and how he presents things, and I think he exaggerates stuff as far as his importance to Prince was (jmo), yet still he seems to me to be an OK guy at his core and I can't say I dislike him. I do wish he'd take the high road about all the bickering and shade throwing between the associates and stay neutral in his responses.

How is Sheila coming out of the woodwork?
When has Sheila E not been performing and rocking A Love Bizarre the Glamorous Life Olivers House Koo Koo Pop Life America Erotic City the Belle of St Mark

When has she not been doing concerts and shows with other 'purple associates' like Rhonda & Kat Lisa & Wendy (and Susannah) Eric Leeds Matt Fink Brown Mark Morris Day, the Family

she did the 2000s Family Jamm bringing as many of those who performed with Prince together for a Charity she also flew to Minni when Bobby Z got sick she's performed with Prince since 2004-2011

how is she coming out of the woodwork?

You sip or spill tea, only shade is thrown. I've never liked him, you just have to read this forum to see that but can't deny he is being protective like calling out Sheila with the symbol T. I do wish he'd have more of a backbone and be direct instead of doing it in a passive agressive way. I also think it's very odd how he always had a friendship with Mani and Mayte so who knows how close he really was to Prince. Him talking about how Prince wanted him to do a book on him is shady also at this point (so much involving Doc is shady as fuck) but like I said no one else is really saying anything - no one is countering the National Enquirer or Charlene Friend or any other bs. I have no time for Sheila E but appreciate what she said about the museum, Jill I think is shady with all her digs in the past but appreciate her calling out the Revolution.

He reminds me of Questlove - no idea how close either were to Prince but neither could be true friends to him cos they were both hardcore fans. That is why doc speaks the way he does, always reminding people about their situation whatever it was, cos he's a fan before anything else. Though anyone who wants to speak up for Prince is fine by me at this point because there has been too much silence everywhere else.

I would think the symbol is copyrighted, but I don't remember ever seeing it with that copyright mark next to it. So if it is copyrighted, no one can use it without permission of whatever entity owns it. Personally, I have no problem with people affiliated with Prince making money now. Yes, it is earning off of his death, but so what? They couldn't do it while he was here, so let them go. An added benefit to this is the continuation of people talking about him and listening to his music.

Oh I know! That's what I mean about him getting a backbone. Sometimes if you've been around everything that's gone on the hints are clear but mostly it's like WTF who, what? Just spit it out! This last podcast I knew exactly who he was referring to when he talked about the person Prince didn't trust (or did he say didn't like?) but mostly he makes me pull my hair out he's so annoying with the hints lol

So tell me where I can find an estate approved t-shirt to buy!! I'd rather have a t-shirt from Sheila than a stranger off Facebook or Amazon!! And I rally don't want to wait forever!! People keep complaining about those who are truly trying to keep Prince's music and memory alive get shaded all over the place! Is that what we want? No Prince music out there? People are having great times at her concerts. It's not Prince... But it's something from his history. Let us enjoy the happy times we can get!!!

I have mixed feelings about all of this, and sometimes I might experience some cynical thoughts on the matter, but I kind of understand your point of view here.

It's weird because I go back and forth in my feelings. I want to see them out there honoring Prince but I don't want them capitalizing on his death. I think my feelings are in part due to my own individual grief process to be honest, but it's also understandable.
