Clearly, Prince was wrong. He is FAR from the best judge of his own historical relevence since he didn't believe in the past, DIG? When dealing with an erratic star who woke up in a completely new world every day and changed his mind more than Donald Trump you need a sober-minded person to evaluate things as objectively. Even if Susan isn't the best choice by those standards, she's still head and shoulders above Prince in that respect. Literally, too.
Well, Susan Rogers considered 'Adonis & Bathsheba' sub-standard, so I wouldn't particularly rate her judgements either. There is no evidence that Susan is 'objective' either. Who is? What we can ascertain, in this respect though, is that Susan Rogers would not have been in accord with Prince's wishes about who should handle HIS music. I happen to think that's important.
Totally agree.
.
Interesting to read the family wanted Trevor Guy involved and you'd imagine him and Josh would P's choices but do we want Josh adding lasers and stutters to Moonbeam Levels. |

I have mixed feelings about this as I have all his greatest hit albums already and I've already made my own playlist of his greatest hits that includes his later years songs, so it's just gonna be a repeat of everything I already have, but for the public at large this could be a good idea. Susan Rogers apparantly didn't rate Adonis & Bathseba so she's not entirely the perfect person to manage his Vault IMHO!
PS. I think a move away from Pure chart hits would be better on a new 'hits' collection, more introverted songs to break your heart would be nice.
Prince: The Beautiful Ones
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
I Wish U Heaven
Ballad of Dorthy Parker
Manic Monday
The Beautiful Ones
I Can't Love U Anymore
Love Thy Will B Done
Starfish & Coffee

Joy In Repetition
Sometimes It Snows In April

They might as well name this package... "Thieves in the Temple - Prince's greatest hits" Something about Susan Rogers rubs me the wrong way. Especially since she did those interviews suggesting he may not be of sound mind, capable of managing his vault. Prince made his feelings about her clear in that Esquire interview that appeared on the internet then quickly vanished.
My thoughts also. Prince made his feelings about Susan Rogers very clear - more than once (also see the Mojo interview in I think '99). He even stated that Susan Rogers knew nothing about his music. Clearly, Rogers wouldn't be Prince's choice. He's never been as negative about any other engineer.
I wonder if that's because she challenged him on occasions?
I don't think P appreciated being challenged too much... |

I don't think Prince wanted to have anything to do with Susan. This is an excerpt from the pulled Ebony interview, where he was talking about her.
Prince: Thereās too much! They get down to, āSee, what he was thinking at that specific time wasā¦ His mindset at the timeā¦ā They psychoanalyze you. There was one engineer who said that their sole purpose in life was to get the stuff out of the vault, and get it copied so it wasnāt lost to the world. Iām trying to figure out if thatās illegal. Should I fear for my safety that you might need some medical attention? You want to come up in my vault and you feel like that belongs to you and thatās your purpose? You better find something to do. Thatās scary.
Yes, thank you for reminding me about this. I had a feeling in my gut that wasn't sitting right with Susan Rogers being a part of this and it was for this reason. This statement he made about her. He wouldn't have wanted her to be a part
Of this. I don't either now. [Edited 9/23/16 3:57am] |

This was the ebony interview Prince disavowed and said was supposed to be off the record yeah? If we're gonna respect his wishes then we can't be quoting from it.
Also, she never actually said that if you bother to go listen to the original interview (BBC documentary about the vault )

He posted and deleted Tweets, in that spirit, too. Susan Rogers said what she said in a written interview sometime around the PR 30 anniversary. |

Oh please, at best this is a massive stretch... unless the interviewer comes out and says Prince told him to print the full transcript in the first place, which he didnt.
Susan Rogers said what she said in a written interview sometime around the PR 30 anniversary.
I'll go as far as saying no she definitely did not.
Out of interest, who would people want involved in a new greatest hits/archival release? If we followed Prince's method we'd probably just hire some leggy 20 year old we found on twitter who just about knows the greatest hits to curate the vault.
edit: actually this entire conversation has already been played out in here:

So Londell tweeted Bremer Trust has contacted Susan Rogers and said that unreleased music should be released by next year and a new Hits package should be released by the end of this year...
