And Sheila did her prince thing already. I'm good with seeing what some other musicians come up with. And that is the Vikings bye week so that's probably why they picked the date they did. Well,Sheila is a touring artist and probably had a show scheduled already. The Rev aren't touring so I don't see why they can't show up. I guess they aren't willing to share the spotlight. It has to be all about them. The wooh is on the one!

Sheila is definitely a touring artist, but never at the present level, except perhaps in the late 80's and 90's. Plus, her booking fee has probably risen considerably. Which is fine. I'm not mad at her. I'm just saying that it's no secret that Prince's passing has increased demand for most of his protégés, especially Sheila E. and Morris Day and the Time.

It's ok if she cannot make it.
We all have had the opportunity to see her plenty of times in concert and can catch her some other time. She is a great artist. Let's hope that others that don't tour as often are at the official tribute being organized by Prince's family such as Jill Jones, Apollonia 6, The Revolution, the original "The Time", Rosie Gaines, Sheena Easton, Ingrid Chavez, Elisa, and all other associated artists that rarely tour. It's all good! [Edited 9/1/16 18:26pm]

I agree, but something will be missing without Sheila E. At any rate, I read that Mint Condition will be there, which I think is huge. I, too, would love to see Rosie Gaines there, but given her health issues, that is highly unlikely. I hope that Cat Glover is included, as well. And, the original "The Time," would be thebomb.com!!!

I hope there is not tension between Sheila and the 'estate' but I get the feeling there may be? Yeah, it's too soon, but considering the company handling the 'museum' is putting up the money to get the place ready to open....tells me there wasn't much cash on hand in P's accounts. It may be necessary to get revenue going just to keep it.

As is the case for most millionaires, the lion's share of Prince's assets were/are not liquid. Still, I'd bet there were millions of dollars of cash on hand in his accounts at the time of his passing, but not the tens (or even hundreds) of millions that will be needed to settle the estate taxes in January, just four short months from now. Those estate taxes, both federal and state, will be assessed at over 50% of the value of the estate. The tax bill will depend on the ultimate valuation of the estate at the time of P's ascension. Graceland Holdings probably (wisely!) offered to put up the money as a bargaining chip in their quest to secure the Paisley Park property. They (and his estate) know its potential as a cash cow, from now to perpetuity. [Edited 9/2/16 2:39am]

I have that same feeling, CROWNS1. Sheila might be salty because she is not more actively involved in the handling of Prince's musical legacy, but she has to understand that his family is in charge. Meaning, they are holding ALL the cards. She would be wise to play nice with Londell and Tyka, as they are the keepers of P's vaunted vault. It is the estate who will decide the fate of the "hundreds" of unrecorded songs that Sheila says she recorded with P. They are reportedly in the vault.

I'm curious if Sheila has reached out to the family at all. I know she's busy with her tour and playing at the Democrat convention but she did find time to go on TV and say it was too soon to open PP to the public. I wonder if she shared those views with Prince's family? Paisley Park is in your heart

Sure, she's "honoring" P but who's pocketing the profits? Surely at least a percentage should go to the estate. I really hope so Me too. Don't get me wrong, I've always loved Sheila, especially the SOTT and Lovesexy era and her BET tribute was spot on - but when I saw on her FB page a few days ago she was selling t-shirts - in particular the one replicating her tattoo - I didn't think that was appropriate - looks likes she's profiting from Princes death. I also felt the constant reference to her being engaged to Prince in the 80s a bit cringe - I mean she's one of many girlfriends, not an ex wife - surely her relationship as a friend and music collaborator for almost 40 years is more relevant? It was like she was the 'go to' woman for an interview at the time of his death and Of all the interviews I saw of his female friends talking about their grief, most mentioned the last time they had spoke but Sheila said she hadn't spoken to him in months, while still being treated by the media almost like his 'significant other'. Yeah as someone else said here in the org, something just doesn't sit right.

I agree. Moreover, did she bill herself as Prince's "ex-fiancee" while he was still alive?

YES!!! Plus, I wish she would sing "When Will We Be Paid?"!!!!!

And, I saw at least one commenter ask her about selling temporary tattoos like hers with the love symbol and butterfly!!! Maybe, she'll add that to her Prince Memorial Line, too.

So why weren't schedules synchronized before the Tribute date was set? Gee Whiz. I think there's more going on here.... Working musicians have contractual obligations that block out days on their calendars for up to a year in advance. Prince's death was sudden, it is neither realistic nor professionally acceptable for a musician to drop previously scheduled bookings or projects in favor of another, regardless of how fans feel, and even in light of the loss that many feel.

babynoz said: I am perfectly content to let give Sheila a pass so she can exhale. There's more than a little tension in air and she might be glad for a chance to step back a bit. Yup. Agreed. I know that this year, personally, I literally lost 3 friends before summer, and honestly, after getting through the memorials I empathize with anyone who's lost someone & feels like they've gotten some closure...and need to breathe from the experience a little. In the case of my friends they were public figures, and it seems like the more a person is a public person of interest, the more the other people vest interest in how you choose to go through your grieving process. I am one of those "okay, the ritual part of saying goodbye is done, and so am I" type of chicks. After we get through this, I am spent and I need to pull back. I think Sheila did a darned good job at BET, and held herself together well in spite of... Let her sit down and be with her own memories and preserve them as she sees fit...it was after all,a part of her life. Everything can't always be about appeasing the whim of fans.

Let's look at the bright side. Mavis, Jill Jones, The Revolution, Sheena, Cat, Ingrid, the original The Time, Elisa, and Rosie may now have the opportunity to perform a longer set at the memorial concert. Maybe this will even give extra time for Mayte to perform a few songs off her album. Performances by the Joffrey Ballet and/or FDeluxe would be great too. This would still be a beautiful experience. Especially, because many of these artists rarely perform. We can catch Sheila E. some other time during her tours.
