RIP sound engineer Monty Lee Wilkes; worked with Prince for about a year in the 1990s http://www.startribune.co...391556811/
.
After being hired by Johnny Rey & the Reaction, Monty worked his way into the Twin Cities’ budding indie-rock scene of the early-’80s. He started at First Ave when it was still transforming from the disco club Uncle Sam’s into the punkier First Ave. The venue did not even have its own sound system for rock shows and would hire out to Southern Thunder, the local sound company that employed Wilkes.
.
“He was another young, upstart, know-it-all kid, but it turned out he really did know what he was doing,” remembered Steve McClellan, First Avenue’s former general manager of more than 30 years. “He became one of those bigger-than-life rock ’n’ roll characters who wasn’t actually in a band but was still a big a part of that world.”
.
[...]
.
Wilkes only worked for about a year with Prince in the ’90s, and it was a predictably a tense experience. Said McClellan, “It wasn’t that he wasn’t good enough for Prince. It was because he and Prince were both consummate perfectionists, and no perfectionist likes being told how to do their job.”

I heard about this this morning from Mary Lou Lord, who used to date Kurt Cobain ; I believe Wilkes worked with Nirvana also. A great track record indeed.

I can't anymore! You will say any crap to fit your agenda. You don't like a song so you want to claim Prince was not a perfectionist based on that. Now I have truly seen it on the org. Wow! |

it's such a shame as he clearly has a vast amount of incredibly useful/good knowledge for the community yet makes an active choice to behave like this? Beggars belief that he chooses to spoil his credibility & put himself in the light of a person who lacks any empathy..i mean FFS..Prince has died & he maintains THIS line of attack. What a way to be. |

The simple fact that you see this as an "attack" instead of me simply posting verifiable facts, says all one needs to know. © Bart Van Hemelen

Don't confuse opinion with what you consider as "verifiable fact". I mean you can't really go against what people who have work with him have to say and then be condescending by saying "Doesn't mean they're right." You don't have credibility and I don't why people think you have so much knowlege. They are encouraging your crap. You don't like the "SOUND QUALITY" so you claiming Prince was not a perfectionist base on that. Just because I don't like something does not mean I should post my opinion as fact. I can't understand the crap you post. Unbelieve. :-|Sad. |

Ah I see: when I say something it's an "opinion", even though I've stated a fact. Yet when someone else expresses an opinion, it becomes a fact. Strange.

You did not state any facts. But you think you did. Strange. The loudness/brickwalling can be considered a opinion because some people could not tell the difference without it being pointed out and/or don't care enough to claim that an artist is not a perfectionist because of it. People debate how measure to loudness. [Edited 8/31/16 15:14pm] |

scary isn't it..he lets himslef down so often. Tell you what, let him stand in front of Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Qunicy Jones, POTUS!, & many many others at the top for so long..then work your way down to current artists who have given him so much love...ten move into fashion, media, art & all other related fields. Let him stand in front of them all & say what he says so bravely on here..how much credibility will be have do you think? BVH..with the greatest of respect it's their opinions that we listen to rather than your continuous bile. The man is dead..let it go! |
