Are fDeluxe worth checking out? I wondered if anyone here had bothered checking out their album they did a few years ago... are they worth checking out?

They're well worth checking out. I liked Gaslight but for me, their covers album, AM STATIC, was better. By far, the best covers album ever in my opinion. Worth it for their version of Rolling Stones Miss You alone.

Never listened to the covers album but I threw on Gaslight earlier today for the first time in ages and it sounded a hell of a lot better than I remember it being. Truth be told it's missing Prince's magic touch but, well, arguably so was a lot of his latter day stuff. WELL worth getting anyway.

Yes. Wax & Live. "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

I really like them, Gaslight is not quite up to the standard of the original Family album but it's definitely a great continuation in that vein, although there's maybe a few too many slow songs towards the end. Their live album is great as well, that might be the best place to start actually as it's a nice mix of the old Family material and their newer stuff played really well. Haven't listened to AM Static yet but by all accounts it's great. Hope I get to see them live one day. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

They are great! Remember that Eric Leeds had a LOT to do with the sound on that album.
What they do with Mutiny is worth the price of admission and the music from Gaslight is pretty damn good as well.
Worth your time. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

definately worth it. What they are doing pays wonderful respect to Prince (1985) vision.

They are ok. Sort of grown up funk/rnb played by middle aged white folks. Nothing wrong with that. But perhaps not terribly exiting? [Edited 6/18/16 11:48am] The wooh is on the one!

Yeah that about sums it up. I didn't find it terribly funky. Lyrically it's a bit cringe worthy at times. Kinda sounds like a band trying to sound like the Family and coming up short. I'll always support their work and go to their gigs but Gaslight didn't do it for me.

Does Jellybean play drums or guitar when they do gigs? And if its guitar, whose behind the kit?

Cool. Thanks for the info. Only just checked out The Family's debut after 20+ years of Prince fandom. Don't know why it took me so long, I guess the CD is pretty difficult to track down, but still, I can't believe I missed out all this time. I really love it, the vocal chemistry between Susannah and Paul, Erics involvement, the songs themselves and the classy art. I heard the title track from Gaslight on YouTube and dig what I hear, so will buy the album for sure. I'm a sucker for anything with Eric Leeds (I think he should receive a knighthood for his contribution to Power Fantastic alone). [Edited 6/19/16 0:18am]

Oh, and I never thought I would say thus, but Susannah and Paul OWN Nothing Compares. Sorry Prince.

No, I was referring to The Family CD, which seems to go for £100+ on eBay. I've seen Gaslight on Amazon, it looks pretty easy to find. I'll let you guys know what I think of it once I've given it a few spins.

The Family is going for over 100 quid on eBay??? Wow. I bought it on CD only last year for 12.99 in a second hand shop. And at the time, I thought THAT was expensive...

[Edited 6/20/16 16:15pm] I got it in a shop called Book Mart on Dublin's Talbot Street. They often have rare, yet cheap Cd's and books. I got Emancipation and the Gett Off maxi single there too. I still have my receipt from that day. I got all those for less than 30 euro.
