I don't know for sure, I think the last thing I read was that Prince told Sussanah that they couldn't use the name The Family. Here is an interesting interview where they talk about Prince in 2013 https://www.rockerzine.co...y-reunion/

loved the article! More insight into Susannah, Paul and Prince's individual personalities.

Listen to me closely as the story unfolds
This could be the saddest story ever been told....

There was the Paisley Park Lovesexy show 1988/89 I believe he had Susannah along with Lisa & Wendy as special guests?

He wrote In This Bed I Scream dedicated to Susannah Lisa & Wendy

In 1998 in a Yahoo interview when asked who the song Forever In My Life was about he replied "Susannah, she knows"

I have a friend who was at some Musicology/3121 shows where Susannah Lisa & Wendy attended, and he had them on stage 4 A Love Bizarre...

Yeah

That link you posted is pretty sad.

For some reason I believe Susannah Jellybean & St Paul will still tell the same story.

I knew there was period where Prince turned off but I did not know the details

That was a bit weird his response

It's nice that they sort of stayed in touch through the years though. I was surprised at that.

Thanks so much for sharing this article, very interesting. Such a shame he was such a jealous person. He didn't seem to have much respect or many feelings for others. Every time I read what Prince fans write about in him in terms of how lovely he was as a person, it makes me cringe a bit, b/c this narcissistic side was definitely a big part of his persona.

I choose to remember the good in people, especially after they've passed away. No sense in dragging up petty nonsense from grown folks to settle a score. It's over now.

// Why would he be jealous of Susan or any of his protégées? What have they done that he would be jelous about? I simply think he wanted those side projects to die The Family was not successful because Paul left right when the CD came out, so maybe Prince decided the project was done and over back then. In the end it was his project and he owned the copyright to the name. His decision and that is the end. Also do not be so quick to write off all the good stuff he did for individuals and organizations which is more important than these musicians trying squeeze money out of an old project.

The article was very insightful and I appreciate it. It was written really poorly though. I didn't bother to check the author's name.

Anyway, it would have been nice if Prince could've let go a little more, but he might've had reasons for not doing so that we don't understand.

The other thing I want to mention is that when people don't feel safe in life, they will try to control everything around them. I think it's time people had a little compassion for Prince in this regard.

Susannah is quite harsh with her words towards Prince. I don't like it much and find it ungrateful. She might feel bad now though or understand a little more today. It would've been nice if she had kept their personal relationship personal, or positive to the public. Yes here are things we want to know and maybe could benefit from knowing but with Susannah there has been a lot of negativity over the years.

Her response to him on the phone was rude, hurtful and unnecessary. There was no need to add that first sentence about [well, my kids are my first priority but I'll talk to you.]

Who does that unless they've got a huge unresolved resentment?

Did it ever occur to her that he might've been sad that he was talking to an old friend who went on to have a family and children - but he had gone through all this devastating stuff with that?

She could have had more compassion for her old friend.

I feel terrible that Prince might've not grown up with real intimacy, anyone really loving him or hugging him and sayinf they loved him or feeling safe or anything like that.

This is why I relate to him so strongly...I didn't have that myself, and it's taken me a lifetime to re-learn it all.

He's very, very loved now though. He's in God's arms - there's no doubt in my mind.

I edited this to be kinder than it was initially 😌

Eileen

I appreciate the honesty and straightforwardness of Susannah, Paul, W&L, the rest of the early crew.

The dazzled-eye gushing from the more recently rotating crops of young and naive women kept around for adoration's sake has and will add little of substance to the long term picture.

1. I think people have always had and tried to understand what happened with Prince & his father which is where we think all the control issues come from. We've looked at the song Papa to see how much truth and how those things could affect Prince.

2. I don't think Susannah was harsh (PRINCE was harsh in his response) Susannah even after this has always spoken highly of Prince. She's been interviewed many times and has never said anything nasty or that showed she was angry or anything toward Prince.

3. She did keep the personal relationship personal. What she was talking about was in relationship to business. Where did you read about Negativity over the years?

4. You might be 'feeling Prince' I thought the response was very adult and straightforward. People have those kinds of conversations all the time and don't get upset. People call friends and family all the time who have children and ask is this a good time, get a similar response.

5. I think you are reading this 'feeling Prince' by the way you changed what she said. She did not say 'they are my priority but I'll talk to you' she said:“They are my concern but you have my time right now. “ How do you see that as rude? she is saying yes even though I have to get them to bed I'm available to you to talk and hear you' She didn't say anything untoward to Prince and shouldn't have to walk on egg shells because Prince doesnt't have kids. A lot of real people in the world are in the same place with friends and family.

6. How do you know he didn't get intimacy from his mother or sisters? Wendy & Lisa used to touch and hug him all the time and tell him the loved him.

--- Tkya wrote an E-Book a few years ago and she said she was called fat, ugly, and stupid at home all the time. She also said they both ran away from home once and no one looked for them. Does that sound like loving home or intimate people.

There were obviously some issues. Where did this happen with Tyka? the the mother? with the father? the mother had weight too after she had kids. So did this come from the father? I suspect the control issues came from the father. Prince's mother was more 'carefree'

I think his feelings were easily hurt and that's what happened during that conversation. We are just getting one side so don't know the whole story. His 'I'm never speaker to you again' attitude is childish, sure, but it's a defense mechanism often used by emotionally wounded people.

I remember an interview he gave where he commented on negative things some of his friends said about him publically after they left. He said something to the effect that "if we loved each other then, we should love each other now." I think the turncoats really made him distrust people's claims of love.

I don't recall SM saying anything too negative about him publically which I've always respected about her. But her FB page still says "made shitty pay at Paisley Park" which is pretty tacky in my opinion. The gig was essentially a gift to keep his "friends" employed. He paid them today's equivalant of $600 a week (which is what my parent's support 3 kids on) with all album related expenses paid. Quit if you think you deserve more; don't moan about it 30 years later.

But what happened in their personal relationship is between them. All is fair in love and war, so it is silly to take sides. Love them both.

Yeah that interview was about the Time. After that break up. But was it negative stuff or was it factual stuff. I mean the were rightful upset at Jimmy & Terry being fired while in the works of making Purple Rain.

That was a 1990 interview: Prince also said he didn't fire Jimmy & Terry, that 'remember' it was Morris's band. Which is still a play on the old game.

I've never seen' made shitty pay at Paisley Park' on her official FB though. But Prince did say something nasty about her in an article (along with Morris) and then he had the article removed. This was before the Piano & Microphone tour.

I don't think it was easy being Prince. You get the credit and the blame. I know there were things he wished he had done differently in his life; same with all of us.

As for my initial comments above, I put her quote in brackets instead of quotation marks because it was a paraphrase. Same point got across.

In understand human nature so I m is what happens when kids come from broken or troubled homes. But man that Prince did so well. He just learned to be self-sufficient at an early age. He had God with him the whole time. What a life he lived!

Yeah. It was posted here. And then the article disappeared. It was one of those I wish I never read.
He also said some off the wall thing about Susan Rogers breaking into the Vault and doing what she wanted with the music or something. He said something about Morris Day but finished off with he would rather take Morris's son or something like that.

This was all a few months before he decided to do the Piano/Mic tour and talking about times gone buy. He seemed to felt bad about what he originally put out. Then said he was doing a memoirs and going to talk about all the wonderful people who worked/helped him on his journey. Then Vanity died.
