The 'cash in' begins - how do u feel about the Revolution reforming, M.Day huge tour etc... The Revolution planning a tour, Morris Day & Half Time [!] starting a tour & no doubt books, articles etc dishing the dirt on the way from many others. Likewise reading Finks comments on how they have already approached the estate to release the 2 revolution albums asap...come on wtf!
Guys I have serious issues with this. Bart has just pointed out what a total mess this whole situation is & it will take years to resolve etc. So do you think associates should strike whilst the irons hot & get what they feel they are owed? OR as I do just bloody wait at least a year.
The grief process will only get worse for many of us with the pending autopsy report [bloody dreading that & my tears will flow again]. So to see blatant opportunism, impatience makes me sick. I already have ALL the music i need, seen him c35 times live & have memories galore.
Am I being an oversensitive jerk or do you sort of agree with me?

Well i was disappointed with the quick gathering of the Revolution and announcement of shows so quickly after his death. It was like. yes, now we can finally make some money. Thats how it came across to me.

His music needs to live on. If this helps with that, I'm all for it.

Didn't want to be the first one to say it but that's exactly how I felt!

can U post a link that says the Revolution is planning a tour?
that other stuff you said about dishing dirt is just your irritated speculations
It's ok for D Angelo & Prince to do Sometimes It Snows In April a song cowritten by Prince Lisa & Wendy and performed by the Revolution but they are just money grabbing and attention getting?
Everyone who had nothing to do with Purple Rain and a lot of the music being performed 'in tribute' are tributing, but God forbid the people that recorded the music with him, peopel who were on stage with him in 81 having garbage thrown at them can't do the music withought it being a money grab...

Morris Day has BEEN touring. This is not some new thing for them, inspired by Prince's passing.

First off siting Bart as one of your sources for feeling this way is a bad place to start...Mr Negativity is doing what only he knows how to do...spout a bunch BS Next I'm all for the Reunion and Morris touring. First off Morris has been touring for years and I say more power to him and keep touring and bringing the MPLS sound to the masses. Next a Revolution tour is awesome news! I can think of no better way to celebrate Prince's legend then with the original group that made it all happen. Finally major props to Fink for giving us the great news about the reunion tour and for pushing the estate to finally release the 2 Revolution albums. Here! Here! LONG LIVE THE REVOLUTION!!! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
Remember there is only one destination and that place is U All of it. Everything. Is U.

2 both of U, the 'quick gathering' is what people do with someone dies. They came 2gether with even the engineers and people who worked behind the scenes with Prince then. They 'quickly' gathered to mourn. People flocked to Minneapolis to mourn Prince, sit outside Paisley Park, Sheila E ran to Minni . If they didn't U all would be saying, I guess they didn't care, where are they blah blah blah . Where do U find the quote that says they are touring? And so what if they do? I would rather pay money 2 C them than any other musician CHaka Kahn lenny Kravitz Patti Labelle Madonna Beyonce etc do they music the Revolution did with him.

I don't care. I just don't see how it would work... YES "Do You like Purple Rain" YES "Would you like to see the band Prince sacked in '86 play the songs from Purple Rain" SORT OF... "Without Prince" FUCK NO.

When random people like Madonna pay tribute folks aren't happy. When the people closest to him pay tribute folks aren't happy. Morris Day and the Revolution are musicians and they are honoring Prince in a way that feels right to them. I would imagine getting out and performing is more cathartic than sitting home watching people like Madonna butcher his songs. If not the people who worked with him in the past, then who should be out singing his songs?

all the OP has to do is post links, maybe it the OP googled Morris Day & the Time the OP would know they have always been performing

The quote is in Finks interview, talk of gigs later on this year & then Europe & further in 2017! looks like guest vocalists but Wendy in the main doing vocals.

fair point BUT come on..MD did a tonne of tweets that peaked with a words to the effect of 'lets keep his legacy alive...' with a link to tour dates. Yes they have always toured BUT this was beyond cynical IMHO. Just seemed like a very cheap / cashing in move.

But they were keeping the legacy alive anyway.

Sounds like what they did in 2013 4 Bobby Z My Purple Heart show

No issue what so ever with this. Why should it be an issue? PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever ----- Live Your Life How U Wanna Live It

Sure, but it's also pretty easy to verify this information yourself. Take a purple chill pill.

The only exception is if The Time shows had the original members and they performed some of their new songs. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I think these people now feel a certain "freedom" that wasn't there when Prince was alive.Prince acted like he was so against the idea of nostalgia and reunions.Put yourself in their shoes. It's not just about making money,it's about being able to reunite, play music with old friends and share the magic with any fans who want to see it.I don't see what's so wrong about that.Prince was so wonderful, but I never agreed with his anti-nostalgia viewpoint and his attempts to erase parts of his past.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Let's face it....some fans aren't gonna be happy with any kind of tribute or reunion of old bandmembers.Prince is dead,so nothing else matters to them
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
me neither. And you know what? I hope other Prince proteges decide to get out there and tour. It's all about keeping this music alive.

Or since we are a discussion group we can share the info. I do it all the time. pictures, links, reviews etc

With P not on the mic? No. I became a Prince fan because of his distinctive vocals. That one of a kind falsetto just can't be duplicated. Wendy on vocals is not the same. Far from it. Ummm, no. Guest vocalists or not, no interest.
He's in the Big White Mansion. RIP Prince

Hi there!
I haven't read the other comments but I just wanted to add another perspective. My generation NEEDS GOOD MUSIC. PERIOD. I honestly feel like the Revolution, The Time, and others want to keep his legacy alive. Honestly, I'm not sure if I will get the music or not. I'm not there yet. BUT my generation has so many AMAZING musicians, but they are not being heard because mainstream music is so filled with clutter these days. So if I can get some good music, I'd rather their music come out than a lot of the processed junk my generation is getting. Try to look at the BIGGER picture. But I get what you are saying. I hope they have the right intentions. But I must admit, without P, it would be a bit weird. But if the musics good, it will speak for itself. We must remember they are all gifted musicians in their own right. Wendy and Lisa's first solo album??...Golden! Yes Lawd!! <3

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. There's been so many tributes to Elvis, Hendrix, Lennon and Harrison by former band members, so why not P? There's probably a lot of younger fans who never saw (or weren't even born) when P and the Revolution were doing their thing. I think it would be fun for the fans and the band.
