Those are great, possible, interpretations too. Prince was private but his music gave him the freedom to express what was going on in a sometimes cryptic way.

If Vanity had been in PR, it would've been even more sensual & sexual and most likely rated X. While Prince and Apples had a couple of hot steamy scenes, with Vanity, there would've been more and more real since she was Prince's real girl.

yeah, I like Apples but she is demure, alot less fiery. Alot of the time in the movie she just stands there looking gorgeous but Vanity would have brought some spit and fury. Movie probably would have had a different vibe

I just think the pick a flower reference isn't about sex..its about killing something..or something dying, if your not careful....this is just my guess though.

a couple of people have said a great deal was based on real events that were then embellished and rearranged to make the story good. Like the pool story which became the lake minnetonka scene. Prince and Vanity outlined the story together then Albeert Magnoli rewrote it to make it a good story.

Yes, it would've been a different vibe. Even in her recent preaching videos, she still had that spit and fire personality. Telling it like it is. I'm sure had to put the gabosh on Prince over some things over the years. She called him out publicly about his Emancipation album.

As far as I know its fact. I got the info from 2 sources. Nikki Sixx autobiography Heroin diaries and The Vault which is a comprehensive research on Prince's output and schedule published in 2004, written by Pers Nilsen. who also wrote DMSR and The Documentary on Prince.

I read here on the org somewhere that around the time Emancipation came out, Vanity was concerned about Prince's spirituality because the album had songs that were dark. I don't know to whom she said that to, but it was public. When Prince did an interview after that (he was with Mayte), he was supposed to be talking about her but instead out of the blue, he mentions Vanity and that he was ok and at the same place as she was spiritually.

When Vanity was hospitalized, he did one of the most important things that you can do when a person is in a terrible situation. He prayed for her for a whole day. He sent her flowers, all purple roses with one white rose.(symbolizing she's the only one) and also a picture of himself.

Well, the truth is the terrible day the news came of Prince's passing, I hadn't thought about Vanity but then I found org and as I was reading here, it hit me that there could be a possible connection between the two. So I started searching for info about them and their time together and there are a fair amount of threads on the org about the two of them going back at least a decade.

Funny it was something similar for me as well. When Prince died I started watching some of the coverage on television and on the evening he died, on CNN there was a panel of people that had worked and known Prince for years (since the early 1980s) and they kept making references about how "Vanity was the love of his life" and that got me curious, so I started exploring and found various articles etc. (like the I posted from The Liek (a segment below)

The rumors of his many beautiful love affairs was always intriguing because he would neither confirm nor deny. However, there was one woman Prince wanted the world to know captured his heart and was the love of his life. Denise Matthews, also known as his music protegé Vanity, was that special woman. Their relationship could not weather the rough storms of the music industry and they both went on to later marry other people, but there was always a connection between the two of them that seemed destined. Both passed away at the age of 57, within two months of each other. Vanity departed on February 15, 2016 of a kidney and abdominal disease. Prince performed a music tribute of his hit the Beautiful Ones, written about Vanity. Not long after her sudden passing, he was reported ill while on tour.
