Really though, vinyl makes sense, it sounds so good. Cassettes... don't.

Plus, they don't last as long as vinyl or CDs. I've been transfering a bunch of my tapes to digital and have found that 1 out of every 5 or 6 has playback problems, even though they've been stored properly. confused

That said, they're the best way to make a mix. Mixtapes > Mix CDs > Playlist!!!

Just sayin'... cool

This was always my biggest complaint about cassette tapes... razz lol

I spilled a Coke on my copy of Romance 1600. They didn't stand up to that sort of treatment either. I listened to it exactly once before it happened. For years (until I got a digital copy) I always heard A Love Bizarre (and Romance 1600 on the other side) with a strange slowed down section. I no longer remember exactly when it was (besides after the main vocal, during the extended instrumental section), but for quite a while the right version sounded wrong to me.

"Old friends for sale"... again. Poor Prince. I don't know who is ultimately responsible for this kind of thing, but it's surely Dez or Mayte, or both in collaboration with some third party? That's just wrong. Very sad to see. I mean, if Dez needs money to feed his children, I guess it's justifiable, but does he...? And didn't Mayte marry another wealthy musician?

.

Assuming dates are correct (sometimes they're not at these auctions), I had no idea 'Sometimes it Snows...' was that old -- I mean, in raw form. Just a reminder of how Prince loves to take old ideas and revise them and revise them, and he never seems to abandon a good idea, no matter how many years have passed.

From a female perspective this make me feel very sad looking through all this it's like picking over the bones of a broken marriage. I think Princes personal things should be sent back to him & what she does with her things (the dress, crockery, ring etc) is her business as they are hers. When my marriage broke up I made sure he took everything that was his and belonged to his parents etc, because they are his history not mine. But everyone sees things differently.

I guess possibly she even offered to them to him but he said "no thanks", he may well be "over it" but I thought he may have liked that old guitar back.

I have some footage somewhere where she was interviewed and said she had some of this clothes and showed them ........so I belive this collection is from her.

in the description of the items, at the end, it says who is selling the particular items.

there are items being sold by Owen Husney, Dez Dickerson and Mayte.

Mayte is NOT selling his guitar, demo recordings or tapes.

Why does Mayte have the Rave outfit? That album/concert was released after their divorce.

Edit: At least after the divorce was announced, not after it was made official

That was the big problem! Worse if you bought second hand tapes, there was no way of telling if they were in perfect condition and would play fine or tape had been chewed and rewound or had sound dropouts - same for VHS! Same for collectors today buying anything on tape. Tape degrades over time especially with multiple plays or if played on not top quality equipment or with dirty heads.

That Maxwell tape for auction (from Dez Dickerson) is UDC46 a very basic tape not Chrome or Metal + they are demos = so expect sound quality won't be that great! Obviously only 23 mins each side of tape, and music on it may only fill one side it doesn't specify.

Wasn't Sometimes it Snows a W&L song?

I'm a huge W&L fan but truth be told I don't think there are any true Wendy and Lisa only songs, they were always with varying levels of collaboration with Prince. Power Fantastic seems to be the closest and Prince, at the very least, changed the lyrics to that one. Plus I can't imagine anyone else singing it.

Strange that this early version of Sometimes It Snows in April has, at least to my knowledge, never been discussed here on the org.

Also strange that it´s never been mentioned by either Dez or Owen Husney.

That´s a a pretty spectacular item.

The price seems way too high though in comparion to the other items.

i don't think it's wrong for Mayte to sell the remnants of her marriage to someone who broke her heart by cheating on her. it's not like he stood by her side when she lost her baby. it's not like he cherished her when she needed him, he was off with little miss homewrecker.

.

personally i say good for Mayte. get that stuff out of your life and move forward, it will feel much better once it's gone. Mayte deserves someone who will actually love her for her and be faithful. maybe the money will help her meet this guy... i dunno. it's tacky to sell the stuff but imo it's not like prince deserves much consideration from Mayte either.

Are these the facts of what happened, or your opinion? "Her baby?" - excuse me, that was his child too and you have zero idea of how P and Mayte dealt with that situation.

Your dismissal of Manuela as a homewrecker has one fundamental flaw, and that's the fact that the two are friends. Mani was on Mayte's reality show, right?

beg to differ. the fundamental flaw was in mani's actions - fucking a married man is NOT CLASSY. in fact, it is punishable by law. while Mayte was off in Marbella, at the home she shared with her husband at the time, prince and mani were busted for screwing in a movie theater. it actually made the news here at the time.

.

and my "opinions" are based on what i witnessed personally at paisley park during the 1997-2000 era. mani was absolutely on the make, had targeted prince whom she idolized for years before meeting him, and it was clear watching her even from a distance she'd set her cap at him as the old saying goes. there was a ton of gossip about mani even before Mayte was out of the picture.

.

most women have enough respect to stay away from someone else's man, but she sure as hell didn't. and by cheating on her, prince wasn't exactly nice to Mayte during that time.

.

if mani and Mayte have become friends post-prince, that's great. but that happened at least what, ten? years after mani was screwing prince while prince was still married to Mayte.

i know, i know. totally catty. it's gossipy and mean and i should just shut my freaking grumpy ass mouth hole. but to the best of my knowledge the above is true and the way people bash Mayte here bugs me sometimes. so what if she wants money? everyone does. and imo it's good she is finally letting go of those things, that can only remind her of a painful era. bah. humbug. me catty, shame shame. i should probably stay off the ORG when i'm in this kind of moods, but really, imo what happened to Mayte is tragic. it's unfair to slag her off for selling the stuff. good for her for getting it out of her life forever.

For all you know, Mayte and Prince were separated already at that time. Lots of married people separate before they divorce.

I was separated from my ex-wife for the better part of a year before we were divorced.

well, all i can say is i was on the scene at paisley park when they were still married and the three way was becoming an issue.

.

did you get the joke about mayte wanting her dress back?

.

don't get me wrong, prince is a fabulous musician and talented in multiple dimensions. but faithful he is not, or at least was not at the time and there was some .. overlap.. between mani and mayte, according to eyewitness testimony cited below.

so IMO slagging off on mayte for finally selling that stuff is kind of unfair

.

i believe Mayte's marriage to prince, the 'annulment' occurred in 1998-99? and the legal divorce in 2000? and for a while there they were annulled, but together 'spiritually' because prince said he didn't believe in contracts..

can anybody comment on Prince getting arrested while making love?

Yahoo has numerous newspaper articles on Prince now supposedly in 1999 Prince was caught making love in the same Chanhassen Movie theater that he took us to for one of the Celebration Nights. Now not only do I absolutely love this kind of behavior I just want to know more about it and I figured if you didn't know I'd tell you. Can anybody comment on the behavior of our Little Devil named Prince and who the mystery lady is?

He wasn't arrested but the police were called by an over-zealous theater worker.

Prince himself posted this on his website which is the only reason that news agencies picked up on the story.

From what I am to understand the lady in question was Mani.

Prince and Mayte were no longer married in 1999. I'm not sure when the divorce officially happened, but they were for all intent and purposes through in 1998 or early 1999.

I saw Prince and Mani holding hands and snuggling up at Paisley in the summer of 1999 so it does seem likely that the person who told me that it was Mani in the theater was correct.

Damn I also had to edit this post. What's going on?

I was at Paisley Park in August 1999 for one of the Friday night jams held in the L4OA room. Larry Graham and GCS preformed several songs and then Prince sang Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child, and Purple Rain.

At some point during the performance I distinctly remember Mayte coming out and dancing on one of the raised stage platforms. So Mayte was still at Paisley Park in the summer of 1999.

Ummm...This show was on June 26, 1999. I looked it up because I was sure it was in June because this was the one show I that I was able to bring a friend to before he moved to New York. He didn't like the show all that much with the exception of Purple Rain (which I remember telling him was very rare to hear at a Friday night jam).

The shows that I'm talking about with Mani were at the end of summer in August right around the time that they started having the "studio c" shows.

Back to the gossip I guess.

But with my own two eyes I saw Prince and Mani holding hands in August of 99 (whenever the studio shows were).

I think this is around the time when asked about his marriage Prince said that "I am only monogomous with God".

anyway, she might have all this stuff since prince didn't want it anymore as it reminded him of

I dont know anything about her relationship with Prince now, but I know that every time a story is posted here on the org about her trying to cash in on some of Prince's old stuff it chips away at what respect for her that's still left. Seriously she needs to get a job! I mean the lady is a dancer and she could try to utilize that skill to make money which I believe she has in the past. I know that I'm tired of all these old friends and lovers for sale trying to make money off Prince through his fans. Mess is old.

Unless a millionaire or a museum with funds or place like Hard Rock Cafe who would want to buy such items?

I dont know anything about her relationship with Prince now, but I know that every time a story is posted here on the org about her trying to cash in on some of Prince's old stuff it chips away at what respect for her that's still left. Seriously she needs to get a job! I mean the lady is a dancer and she could try to utilize that skill to make money which I believe she has in the past. I know that I'm tired of all these old friends and lovers for sale trying to make money off Prince through his fans. Mess is old.

isn't it better than Mayte tossing that old stuff out on the lawn and setting fire to it? lol

There's no way that tape would sell for $20,000. It's completely unrealistic. Maybe $5,000 to $7,500 tops. I also doubt that you could call the track "Sometimes it Snows in April"#1 either. He might say that phrase possibly but its not the same song idea at all. As for the other auction items, the prices that are being ask are really for more recognizable or iconic type pieces. The Rave outfit would kind of be one but at that price you would really need the jacket. I have a few stage worn costome pieces that I bought in the early 2000's and the prices were reasonable. I doubt any of that will move unless someone really wants an emancipation/jam of the year era scarf or a wedding plate. I'll wait for the clearance sale.

I could understand Mayte selling her wedding ring, but selling the letter Prince wrote her when he proposed is super tacky and low rent of her.

Prince is better off without that gold digger. Glad he dumped her years ago. I feel sad for him, but just the way it goes sometimes with women. I assume he wasn't perfect in the relationship either, but he doesn't deserve this.

Have you heard the track? I have never, in all these years on the org, read about this particular demo and I´m quite surprised that people are not discussing this track in the Prince forum right now.

What are the similarities ? Does he just repeat the title ? Is the music completely different from the song as we know it?

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Sad to see that she's selling all of that stuff, especially the engagement ring. It has been almost 20 years ago for Mayte so it could be good for her. The music stuff should really go back to Prince. I doubt he's missing the clothes though.
Agreed.

Please don't edit my comment, and then agree to what you just added.

The prices are in fucking lalaland. Handwritten Marriage proposal? What was wrong with just asking her? Zero bids on any of it so far, no surprise.
