I love this groove! Vanity's vocals aren't too great, but the music is funky headbang sounds very Minneapolis-styled...and Morris on the chorus (hey, that rhymes! lol) was a good idea

I doubt it. I think Motown just decided to put their promo $$$ behind someone else after the first single. Happens all the time.

This one is great, though I prefer "Pretty Mess", which is great and a good laugh!

They're crazy."Mechanical Emotion" could have been a smash hit.All it needed was a video.

lol I gues they felt that the line "you keep me erect" was too explicit to put in the lyric sheet, lol

Funny that u posted Mechanical. About a month ago i was on a Vanity, Andre C, and Morris Day(solo)music marathon. For a few days all i listened to was assoicated artist's music and Mechanical Emotion was one of songs that was on the playlist.

Anyway ME is one of the best songs that any of the AA have done.

Back when it was first released i thought it was Minneapolis-funk heaven, and 30 years later i still feel the same way!

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

lol Her vocals on this song are terrible. The intoxicating groove and Morris' vocals is what saves it.

Funny how this is the line on every Vanity song but she actually managed to get out a few solid hit records. I mean, could her vocals have been that bad for more than Nasty Girl? All her solo records range from decent to not half bad in my opinion. And her vocals on sings like Romantic Voyage and Samuelle is as good as anything a female singer is doing today with just a few obvious exceptions.

the odd thing is,I think Vanity sounded just fine on the V6 album.I think Prince knew her vocal limitations and gave her songs that didn't require alot of vocal ability.Plus, the other girls were there to help her out (Brenda is actually a "real" singer).Songs like "Nasty Girl" and "Wet Dream" were tailored for her vocals.Left to her own devices, she didn't sound as good lol As a solo artist, she really should have worked with Jam and Lewis. They were genuises at hiding vocal flaws and making an artist sound good.Look at what they did with Janet Jackson.
